The call was answered almost immediately.
Elaine quickly said, “Hello, is this Kevin? Hi, I'm Claire's mother.”
Kevin was slightly annoyed by the situation. He had been wondering how he could get closer to Claire, and now her mother had actually called him.
He assumed Elaine must be in some kind of trouble. Of course, he wasn't going to miss such a good opportunity to impress her.
So he immediately adopted a concerned tone.
“Auntie, are you in some kind of trouble?”
“Well, there's something I need your help with,” Elaine said hurriedly. “Kevin, some old friends and I bought investment-linked insurance policies from a company called Axel Insurance. We put all our savings into them, but now the company refuses to pay our returns. They won't even give us our original money back! Could you find a way to help us recover it?”
Kevin was delighted when he heard this.
This is my chance to prove myself.
He immediately replied confidently, “Auntie, don't worry. I'll come over right away. I'll help you resolve this problem.”
Elaine was overjoyed.
“Oh my goodness! Thank you so much!”
After ending the call, she turned toward Charlie and snorted contemptuously.
“Some people are completely useless. We can't rely on them for anything. What else can he do besides stand here shouting slogans?”
Charlie remained silent.
So she had asked Kevin for help?
The fact that these scammers had dared to take so much money from so many people suggested that they had considerable connections.
Could Kevin really force them to return the money?

But since his mother-in-law trusted Kevin so much, Charlie decided to let Kevin handle the situation and see how badly things would turn out for him.
Meanwhile, several of the elderly investors who had been watching Elaine make the call gathered around her.
They eagerly asked whether she had found someone powerful enough to help them.
Elaine smiled proudly.
“Don't worry, everyone. I've asked Mr. White to help us. He's very influential and capable. I'm sure he'll be able to get our money back easily!”
Someone exclaimed in surprise, “Mr. White? Elaine, you're amazing! You actually managed to find such a powerful person!”
“Yes! Mr. White must have extensive connections. This should be easy for him to resolve, right?”
Another elderly woman looked at Elaine curiously.
“Elaine, since you know such a capable young man, why don't you marry your daughter to him? Why is she still with that useless son-in-law?”
Elaine glared at Charlie with disdain.
“That useless man will be out of our family soon enough!”
Charlie didn't say a word.
He simply waited for Kevin to arrive.
He wanted to see exactly how miserable Kevin was going to end up.
A short while later, a black Porsche slowly pulled up in front of the crowd.
A handsome young man in an expensive suit stepped out of the car.
Kevin White had arrived.
The elderly women immediately burst into excited chatter.
“Wow! Look at him! He's so handsome and well-dressed!”
“I wonder which family will be lucky enough to have a young man like him as their son-in-law!”
