Let Him go
17: CHAPTER 18.
Let Him go Lucy
Kayden and Lexi are seated across from mum and I in the kitchen.
It’s quiet for some reason as no one says a word yet.
Lexi manages to glare at me every passing second while her hand is clasping onto Kaydens that’s on the island table.
I wanna get upset and glare back but mum’s words ring in my head.
LET HIM GO.
I begin to chant the words like a mantra hoping it summons some kind of spirit to help me let him go and watch him be happy with another woman.
The words don’t sit right with me even as I chant them every passing second.
My mood is only turning sour so I change the words to…
YOU DONT DESERVE, HIM HE DESERVES BETTER.
That mantra only makes me want to grab something and break it.
‘Break Lexi’s face’ Mara urges, her tone is so lethal I almost shiver.
‘No!’ I shout back, ‘remember mum’s words, we have to let him go, we dont deserve a man like him.’ I say them more to myself than my wolf.
The words sound absurd and taste sour on my lips.
I can’t even believe I am saying them, it makes me want to hurl.
“ To what do we owe the pleasure, Alpha and Luna?” Mum breaks the silence.
The tension in the room keeps growing with each passing second.
Lexi grunts at mum’s questions.
“We came here to clarify some things,” Kayden speaks up as his attention is on mum.
They have been in here for some time he hasn’t looked at me not even once.
This leaves another crack in my heart.
Once more I chant mom’s words.
Let him go.
This is slowly becoming my routine but now that he is seated too close to me looking hot as fuck…damn, I can just…
Let him go.
I breathe out, a breath I didn’t even know was holding.
I gawk at him, I can’t look away even if I want to.
I am so drawn to him, mesmerized by him.
I have never seen a man look his look.
His once 5 o’clock shadow begins to turn into a full beard.
It only enhances his hot looks and damn does he look fierce and deadly.
His power is amazing it envelops me and I can’t help but get a little lost in it.
His tongue darts out to wet his lips, and the scene so sexy leaves my mouth agape.
I jerk hissing when mum pinches my thigh under the table painfully.
It surely snaps me out of whatever daze I was in.
Only now does Kayden turn to look at me, his face is coated with concern for a moment before he seals it.
“ It’s just a sting I think a mosquito bit me or something.” I lie.
The doesn’t sound believe even to my ears.
“ What things do you want to clarify?” I ask quickly changing the subject.
“ My mate Lexi thinks something is going on between us but I keep telling her that there is nothing and she won’t believe me.” Kayden’s voice is very deep as he speaks.
“Nothing is going on Lexi,” I assure her in a firm voice so she believes.
Well, it’s half the truth besides the little hickey and me being his ex-mate there isn’t anything going on.
“ You think I am a fool, he wanted to kiss you.” She shakes her head.
“ No, he did kiss you.”
“No, he didn’t kiss me.” I defend.
Well, almost but he didn’t.
“ It’s not what you think Lexi.”
Mum quietly watches the exchange going on.
“ Tell something Lucy ’cause Kayden doesn’t want to say it.
Are you Kayden’s ex-mate?”
My mouth goes dry.
I don’t even know whether to say it or not.
My gaze shifts to Kayden even if everyone is looking at me.
I feign indifference I don’t let anything show on my face.
Kayden’s face is strained and he fists the palm of his free hand tightly.
I instantly know he never told her anything.
She doesn’t know who his ex-mate but how will this end up for me if I tell her?
“No.” My face doesn’t weaver.
Kayden let off a small breath of relief.
I can now see that he began to sweat a little.
This won’t end well for any of us, I can feel it in my bones.
Lexi doesn’t seem to believe the crap coming out of my mouth.
It’s clear from how her face contorts.
“ Then did he try to kiss you?” She asked through clenched teeth.
She is fuming, if she was a cartoon character I would have seen some steam come out of her ears and nose.
“ You saw wrong, he didn’t even try to kiss me he was trying to hold me back when he slipped on the floor everything happened too fast.
You would have not been able to see it but I did.”
Mum raises a single brow at me an action only I notice.
This knows I am lying, she has always been able to tell when I lie.
She doesn’t say anything she just watches everything unfold among us.
This will be better for us if Lexi doesn’t find out and I keep my distance from Kayden.
Let him go.
I tell myself for the hundredth time even though the words won’t accept to sit well with me.
Let him go.
I am slowly beginning to lose count of how many times I tell myself that.
“ Why don’t I believe you?” Lexi asks.
I simply shrug my shoulders.
“Babe, that’s what happened I didn’t want to tell you that cause you would have thought I was lying.” Kayden backs me up.
A side of me is happy he supported my answer almost like he was supporting me.
I almost wanna smile till I remember the main reason he did.
He doesn’t want to lose Lexi because of me.
Pathetic I know but I want my man back.
‘ Question is doesn’t he want you back?’ Mara deadpans.
That surely shuts me up cause I never thought about that.
“ Then why won’t you tell me who your ex-mate is?
Why does it feel like you are protecting her?” Lexi asks, she is beyond livid.
I know that feeling very well, the feeling of being insecure.
“ Cause isn’t someone important to me.
Not anymore and I care less about her or what she does with her life now.
She is in my past for a reason Lexi and that’s where I left her.
Even if she came back now I would have to be dead to get back with her cause any sane man would never be with someone as wicked as her!”
His words are like a large slap to my face.
My would whimper and I try hard to keep up the sounds hidden.
I have to stay strong.
Let me go.
You have heard what he said to let him go.
Mum notices my face she can read through me even if I struggle to keep a straight face inside I am moaning all over again.
It’s only a matter of seconds before I completely break down in front of him and beg him to forgive and promise him, I am working towards changing.
“ Well what Lucy said is true I watched everything unfold before my eyes.
Kayden did miss a step and we all thought something else.” Mum backs up my lie.
Lexi seems to buy it and believe it.
Coming from mum anyone would believe and am sure Aiden would back Kayden up with the doctor too.
This is a battle that Lexi lost even if she tried to fight hard.
I don’t think anyone will side with her, and we were only witnesses in that room very soon her mind will begin to play her tell she saw something, and feed her images that weren’t even there.
She hangs her head low.
“ I am sorry I shouted at you.
I guess I was just stressed that I had put you in grave danger hope you can forgive me.”
I simply nod my head not trusting my voice.
If I dare to say anything it won’t be words coming out but a loud cry followed by a river of tears.
“ Since everything is cleared up we will be leaving.”
Kayden glares at me, finally looking at me after a while.
I look away instantly, his words still play in my mind like a broken record.
Breaking my heart more and more.
As I try to continuously tell myself to let him go.
Soon enough they leave the house it’s already afternoon.
I don’t even say a word before I am rushing straight to my room and close the door right behind me.
It’s days like these that I wish I had my own house I am old enough to own one after all.
I drop onto the bed and the waterworks begin.
I don’t know how long I cried but somewhere between it all, I fell asleep, and when I woke up its already dark outside so dark.
I believe mum didn’t wake me up to let me have my space.
The darkness isn’t the only thing I notice it’s the window that is open that is letting a cold breeze in that I am sure was closed before cause I rarely opened my window.
With time I notice that I ain’t the only one in the room.
