16: CHAPTER 17.
Confessions and confrontation Lucy
Mum stares at me as she waits for me to answer.
I contemplate telling her the truth or straight-up lying to her.
Who am I kidding the truth will come out sooner or later.
I sigh as I ran my fingers through my thick black hair.
This is hard than I anticipated.
“Well,” she urges, “ we ain’t in a staring contest Lucy.
I don’t have all day.”
“ But the doctor said that I need to some rest don’t you think you are stressing me out.” I try to persuade her.
She rolls her brown eyes at me, what can I say like mother like daughter.
I know I got most behavioral symptoms from her.
Though she is more vocal than I am but not as rude.
A part of me I am slowly working on.
“Don’t bullshit me, Lucy.” Her tone is fierce.
This is something she won’t back off on.
She continues, “ You are a wolf you have already healed the only thing you are staying away from for a few days in practice.”
I wanna run away from her but it’s no use.
“ But mum!!” I begin to whine.
“Ain’t buying it.”
My face drops at least someone deserves to know and mum is the only closed person I can talk to about all that I did.
It’s the look of disappointment on her face that I am afraid to see.
She has always emphasized the goodness of having a mate but I never listen to her.
Who knows how my life would have been by now?
‘We would have been happy’ Mara responds to my thoughts.
I wince and mum furrows her eyebrows.
She is worried, an expression I know will change the moment she knows the entire truth.
“ I did something bad mum and now it’s coming back to haunt me,” I tell her.
Her brows knit and I look away for a brief second before I can face her again.
She urges me to go on.
“ I rejected my mate.”
Her eyes are wide open as she processes what I just said.
“What did you say?” asks mum.
I know she heard me loud and clear but she can’t believe the words leaving my mouth.
“ It was a long time ago mum.”
Her eyebrows rise even higher before her face falls all of a sudden and the look I was afraid of is written all of her face.
“It’s good we have the whole day to ourselves.” Responds mum.
She is intent on listening.
She begins to move around the kitchen and makes me a cup of coffee that she serves with some pancakes.

Mum always makes killer pancakes and she knows I am not a great cook so makes sure she prepares most meals, she likes to say that doesn’t enjoy eating the crap that is the food I cook.
She adds more coffee to her cup and continues to sip on it.
“I met my mate’s mum years ago when we had the pack gathering.
But I didn’t like him I didn’t want to be mated to an omega after all the hard work I had put in to keep my beta position.
I was a beta after all.”
Hearing it out loud now it sounds ridiculous.
“ You are a fool, Lucy.” She shakes her head.
As if she doesn’t even wanna believe what I am saying.
She is upset and disappointed.
“ I know and regret what I did mum.
But it happened after I rejected him.
I had insulted him so badly and mocked him then left him in the woods when he was hurting from the rejection.”
Her glare only deepens, she starts to say something but only scoffs.
Her hands clasped in front of her.
She gives me this wild look.
“ So where is your mate now?
Did he die there you know how dangerous it is to reject our mates it is a taboo for a reason!
Were you even thinking straight Lucy?!
Look at you now your arrogance and pride had cost you so much I don’t even think the moon goddess would ever bless you with a second chance mate.”
I wince once more cause she has a point.
“ I can see ‘t believe you would do those evil things I raised you better than that.” She mutters as her voice cracks.
I look at the island table, I can’t even face her cause I know what I did to Kayden is terrible.
“ I regret everything mum.”
“ Is he alive?” She questions “ Is he here with us or he remained back after the new Alpha claimed the pack?” She inquires more.
“ He is alive and he is here mum,” I answer her.
“ Have you apologised?”
I can’t help but sigh that is something I haven’t done.
I shake my head and she gasps as he puts her hand over her mouth.
“Where did I go wrong with you Lucy?” She asks, it sounds more like she is asking her self more than me.
As much as she is disappointed in me she is also disappointed in herself she feels she failed as a mother.
Mum is easy to read sometimes and her feeling that breaks my heart even more.
“ Who is he, Lucy?
Cause you can’t be here acting prideful to even apologize while you have the alpha trying to kiss you.
And I thought Aloha Kayden was your mate but both found out after he had chosen someone else.” She lets out a humorless chuckle.
She doesn’t even give me chance to finish explaining and now she is firing me with questions that I don’t even know where to start answering.
“ Cause why would he try to kiss you like that in front of his chosen mate?
Don’t tell me he likes you.
Besides you can be his mate cause history says he had a mate and child before they died due to a rouge attack.”
Hearing that makes me freeze.
I never once thought I am his second chance.
I was never his first.
A child?
How come I hear about this now?
For some odd reason, my heart is beating wildly in my chest and I don’t know why.
I think I am going to faint.
“What do you mean he is your mate…?
“ He is the man I rejected years ago back then he was omega and now well.
I know he came to get his revenge on me.
It’s the only reason he came here.”
“ Yeah cause the world revolves around you.
Everything has to be about you.”
That surely struck a code.
She had a point and the more we talked the more disappointed she looked.
I kept my lips right, I even lost my appetite.
I couldn’t stomach the food I was just from enjoying a few minutes ago.
“ The least you can do is apologize.
Alpha Kayden has already gone through a lot.
You know I suggest you stay away from him and let him enjoy himself with his new mate.
It’s the least you can do for him.
I know right now the bond is trying to confuse him he is in constant battle with it but until he marks Lexi you stay away.
Avoid him at all costs.
Cause you don’t deserve you threw him away like he was trash.
The only reason you are regretting now is that he is one of the most powerful Alpha alive.
If he was still with his omega status you wouldn’t have taken him back.
I hope you enjoy the life you chose for yourself.
Just so you know Kayden was the best warrior alive before he lost his family it’s not easy losing a mate and kid at the same time.”
I process everything that has left her mouth and stay away from him.
How can I stay away from a man that is constantly in my dreams?
“ But mum….”
She shakes her head to cut me off.
“ No Lucy I have already made myself clear.
You already made your bed, now it’s time to sleep in it.
I can’t believe this, I bet he was happy to have been given another mate only for you to crush that hope, and don’t you dare start any other fight with Lexi.” She warns me her gaze on me is deadly I can’t help but shiver.
I have never seen mum this angry and disappointed before.
I wish I could go back in time.
But then again something mum said gets to me if he was still omega would I have regretted it?
“ I won’t get into any trouble with her or the alpha I will stay clear as you have said,” I promise mum.
What she has said is true I don’t deserve him not after what I did.
As if on cue the doorbell rings.
Both mum and I rush to the door and open it.
