Xavier and I spent some time chatting it felt nicer, and more carefree than it was when we were in a position, back then we only ever talked about things that concerned the pack but now it’s just random stuff.
I feel like this is the quality time I missed out on.
My heart hurts a little when I realize that I haven’t spent much quality time with dad in such a long time.
Spending time with my former alpha has made me see things from a different perspective.
I am happy that Kayden brought me here.
Rain continues to pour and I begin to wonder if I will spend the night here too cause it’s slowly getting dark.
I face-palm myself when I remember that I am supposed to assure mum, at least she deserves to know that I am okey for tonight.
I open my mind and instantly reach out to her.
“ Mum!”
“Lucy!
Lucy!
…why do you always have to shut us out.
I have been worried sick when your dad tried to come set free you away with Ace, but you were not there.
Where are you?!”
She is panicking I can hear it in her voice.
I don’t like it when she panics.
My swell with joy knowing that Ace and dad were ready to come to my aid.
“ I am with Xavier at his cabin in the woods,” I tell her.
I hear her breath of relief and I roll my eyes so mum, she is dramatic more dramatic than I am.
“But why did you come back here?
How did you even get out?” She fires her question at me.
“I..I…” I hesitate not knowing which question to answer first.
“ Ah…
The alpha brought me here.
He was able to get me out just when the rain got worse.”
Another sigh leaves her lips.
She worries too much.
“ I am glad that he was there to save you.
But I don’t want you to mistake his kind gesture and think that he likes you too or wants you back.
He simply did that cause it’s his duty as an alpha nothing more.”
Her words are like a bitch slap, the kind that leaves an imprint on your face while you start to wonder what year it is.
Her words are true though, but hearing them hurts and mum is the type that goes straight to the point she is not afraid to rip the band-aid off.
“ I understand.”
“ What I am just trying to say is that I don’t want you waiting on Kayden to get back to you or whatever fantasy you have going on in your mind where you end up with him.
I know what you did is bad but you can own up to them and see things right between you two.
And then move on and find someone, Ace likes you I see the way he looks at you.
I don’t much about his mate but ask him and see if he is the person you can mate with.”
I groan, I am beginning to feel pressured, but Ace a big No.
I don’t know what to tell her, I am too stunned to even utter a word.
I can’t believe she suggested it.
“ Just don’t get hurt waiting for a man that has already moved on.
You also deserve to be happy at least.”
With that, she shuts the link off and keeps me out.
I shut mine too.
The mind link isn’t something we can leave open all the time.
It’s something we are all careful about cause if you ain’t careful the whole pack might listen in to your thoughts.
My secret is what mainly forced me to close mine most of the time.
I don’t want everyone to know the things I did.
An aroma catches my attention, Xavier is in the kitchen cooking who knows what.
But it smells divine and also makes my mouth water.
I walk into the kitchen to peep at what he might be cooking.
I take a seat on one of the kitchen stools.
He sets two empty plates on the table, and the aroma of the food he is cooking invades the whole kitchen.
I can’t even remember the last time I had a proper meal.
I am beginning to like it here more than I should.
It makes me wish it can rain forever, I have never been this carefree before.
“ How did the clothes fit you?” He asks as he steers some food on a pan.
“ Just fine thanks very much.”
He chuckles, “ Hey it’s no worry, my mate won’t be back anytime soon so you can wear them.’ He assures.
I simply nod and keep quiet as I see him work his magic around.
I am quite surprised to see him cook this is a side to him that I never saw the entire time I was his beta.
I figure him to be the type of man who only spent his time in the office and did nothing else.
He begins to put food on the empty plates and it’s at that time that my stomach chooses to embarrass me.
A loud growl is heard and I feel my cheeks heat up.
Xavier looks at me, his should shake as bellows with laughter.
His reaction only makes my cheeks heat up even more.
I am sure I am as red as a tomato.
If only the ground could open up and swallow me right now.
He tries to hold himself and he fights hard to stop laughing.
“ I have never seen blush before.
It was so cute and funny I couldn’t help it.” He lightly chuckles.
I was already working on calming myself but after his comment…
I don’t think that will be happening soon
“ No one has ever called me cute.” I voice my thoughts out loud.
“ Cause you love giving off this tough persona that you can beat everyone ass.
So how can they call you cute if they are afraid of you?”
I tilt my head as I watch him finish what he putting on.
“ I have never seen it like that.”
“It’s good that you now do.”
I frown at his remark but take it anyway.
“ I am not even like….”
My voice trails when he gives me a look that says don’t even finish that sentence.
I laugh nervously and give him my best good girl look.
“ I guess you were just too young to be given such a position it made you different.
You never had a normal upbringing like your friend.
I know the kind of man your father is and how he trained you day and night for a position that carried so much weight.”
I don’t have what to say so I stuff my mouth with as much food as my mouth can take anything to stop me from talking.
The food is very nice way nice that I had experienced.
He also begins to eat and it’s quiet.
This moment is so serene I almost forget that the moment the rains are done I will be forced back to that leash.
I can manage, I show Lexi that she can’t walk all over me.
“ So who is Kaydens mate?” Asks Xavier.
He does look intrigued.
I can’t help but sigh, “ her name is Lexi.
She came from his pack.”
“ Do you think she will make a good luna?”
Why doesn’t this feel like it’s a normal question?
I feel like I landed myself an interview.
“ Huh.
Honestly, I am not sure.
I can’t say anything yet ’cause I haven’t known her long enough to know whether she is good or not.” I answer honestly.
He simply nods as he continues to eat.
We sit in silence once more till I am courageous enough to ask him more questions.
“ So what has it been like to be here?”
“ It’s been nice life has been very peaceful.
I have been able to do most things I couldn’t do then.
And also your alpha keeps me company most of the time.
He is a good man at least the pack didn’t end up with someone bad that I am happy about too.” He smiles.
He is so fond of Kayden I am surprised they have gotten close.
“ Can I also be coming here to see you sometime?
It’s so peaceful?”
“ You are always welcome Lucy.”
I smile at him, I haven’t felt this happy in such a long time.
“ Do you think Alpha Kayden will ever be close to me?
Like maybe close enough to..”
“ Be his mates once more?” He cuts in.
I shake my head, “ to be friends.”
His is quiet for a while and his eyebrows are furrowed.
He sighs then shakes his head.
“ Honestly I don’t know the answer to that.
But don’t wait on it.
I wouldn’t if I were you.
Alpha Kayden is kind of unpredictable.
It’s hard to know what his next move is.
And now that he is no longer doing things out of revenge it’s hard to tell.”
He answers honestly and I take his words cause he is close to Kayden.
“ Do you think he loves Lexi?”
“ Honestly I don’t know.”
His answer is too short for me.
Way too short.
“ Who does he love then?”
