Small talk
7: CHAPTER 8.
Small talk Lucy
A week has passed since I lost my position.
I spend most of my time at home not doing anything.
I am still hurt by Kayden’s acceptance of my rejection.
It’s been three years for fucks sake and he only accepted it now.
I hate him so much, who am I kidding?
Am I a bad person if I said I want him back?
I roll over in bed, my body aches all over not from the fight but from losing my mate.
My wolf keeps whimpering she is angry at me I can feel it.
She rarely voices her thoughts.
I hiccup as I wipe some tears from my eyes.
This is more painful than I thought it would be.
Is that what Kayden experienced when I left him in the forest that night?
I turn in bed and put the comforter over my head shielding my face from the sun.
I hear my door burst open, I can’t even guess who has come through the door.
“You can’t keep sleeping here, Lucy.
Eww, this room even stinks.
What has happened to you?” Mum’s sharp voice destructs my thoughts.
“ Of I can be here for all eternity if I want to!!!” I yell back.
My voice quivers as I try not to let out a sob.
“ I won’t let you get withered away like this.
It’s just a position you can train harder and gain back sweetie you are a strong person.” She says softly.
From her voice, I can tell just how worried she is about me.
Heck, she doesn’t know what is going on.
She doesn’t know our alpha is the mate I once rejected.
She doesn’t know Kayden is only here to make me suffer the way I once did.
It’s barely been a month and I already feel my life slipping away.
“It’s not as easy as you think,” I reply as another hiccup escapes my mouth.
“ I know it ain’t easy.
“ She says.
I can feel her seat at the side of my bed.
The next thing I feel is the sunlight from my window blinding me as she pulls the comforter from my head.
My eyes adjust and my eyes are on her, the whole time contemplating whether I should tell her or not.
Looking at how close we have gotten over the years since Stacy left I feel it’s right to tell her.
She became closest to me as I struggled to make any real friends over time.
“ I don’t think I will ever be able to get the position back ma.
Not after all the training that dad put me through to get it and keep it.
I have always worked so hard for the beta position it even hurts me more than my opponent called me Weak.
As weak as an omega ma I can’t, I really can’t.” I complain as my voice cracks more.
“ I don’t think I belong in this pack anymore ma.”
“No, you do belong in this pack.
You are my baby girl after all.
I know you will get your rightful position back.
Besides now that we have even combined with the other pack sure you will find your mate.” She spoke cheerfully.
I knew it was her way of trying to cheer me up but at this moment she is only making things worse.
I grimace at her words if only she knew what I had done in the past.
“Mum!!” I complain.
I am tempted to roll my eye but I know she will hit me if I do that.
She can be very fierce when she wants to be.
“ I don’t think that is happening,” I reply flatly.
She rolls her eyes, “ have a little faith, will you?
“
I sigh if only she knew.
I try to grab the comforter and put it over my head but she is quick, she beats me to it.
She grabs it and pushes it further away.
I glare at her and face away from her.
“ You can’t stay in bed forever get up Lucy.” She demands.
“But I don’t want I am not ready to face anyone.” Especially that new alpha of ours.
Just the thought of him breaks my heart even more.
He did a glow-up and a very huge glow-up.
He went from looking cute and tiny to this strong very handsome man that I believe every woman in the pack was dying to have a good fuck with.
Just the thought of the girl he had sitting on his lap breaks my heart even more so much that a tear rolls down my cheek even before I can stop it.
“ Hey” my mum coos to me.
She is really clueless.
“ everything is going to be fine trust me.” She assures me and for once I feel like I should believe her.
I take a deep breath in and then slowly out.
Mum is right I can’t be buried in here forever.
It only shows Kayden that I am weak when I can’t do that.
“ I will get up and shower mum then I will join the warrior’s team as you said and with time I will get my beta position back,” I tell her with so much determination in my voice it surprises me too.
Mum gives me the biggest smile the kind that can light up the sky.
I can’t help but smile back, I do feel better.
“That’s my girl.
“ She pats my shoulder and stands up.
She gives me one last glance before she leaves my room.
I am tempted to go back to bed even after giving mum my little speech but I know she will back my drag my ass out of bed.
I get up and go straight to the bathroom I take a long relaxing shower making sure to clean every inch of my body including my long hair.
I feel like I have washed away all my problems and I am a whole new person.
But who am I kidding?
I finish with the shower and dry my body including my hair then I get dressed in some blue jeans and a crop top that I pair with some martin boots.
All in all, I can say I look nice.
I grab my phone and try to dial Stacy’s line but like every other time, it doesn’t go through.
I miss my best friend I have so much to tell her.
It’s like she and her mate just went incognito after Kayden took over their pack.
And now I can’t get in touch with her.
I grab my phone and walk out of my room though it will need to get cleaned it’s a mess.
I go downstairs where everyone is quietly having breakfast.
I join them and continue to eat.
Dad hasn’t been social with me ever since I lost the beta position.
He is still angry with me and I can’t blame him.
He also put in so much work to help me keep my position how did I repay him?
I need to get it back.
But how the man I fought is on a whole different level I didn’t even last an hour in there.
After breakfast, I walk out of the house the sun blinding me as soon as I step out.
Since then, I have been cooked up in my room crying over losing and well the pain I felt after he finally accepted my rejection.
I hate Kayden.
Who am I kidding?
I take a walk through the pack and everything seems the same at first but the more I walk through the more I realize how different things are around here.
“ Oh, you must be the previous beta?” A random girl I don’t know asks me.
Why do I feel like she looks so familiar?
“ Yeah…” I answer unsure of how to answer her question.
“It’s so nice to meet you.
Would you mind being friends?” She asks politely.
She has me confused for a while but I nod my head anyways.
“ Cool, I am Lexi by the way.
So where to?” She asks.
I think about whether I should tell her about my secret spot or not.
It’s somewhere I love to seat when I want to avoid people for a while.
“Nowhere just surveying around I guess…” I tell her unsure.
She smiles, she is pretty and she has that bad girl look about her.
She is a small inch shorter than me but she is curvier than I am.
She has a pixel cut that complements her face well.
She graceful walks beside me.
“ We can do that together I am new here too Alpha Gray asked if we wanted to relocate and I agreed I need a change of environment if you know what I mean.
“ She smiled in my direction once more.
I gave her a fake smile back.
“ I see that’s good.
Hope you enjoying it here”
“ I am very much I just haven’t made any friends yet that’s why I approached you am hoping you and I can be close.
“
I smile at her at least this time it’s genuine.
“ I am sure we will be Lexi,” I tell her.
I need to think of a way to evade her the only thing I want right now is to be alone.
I continue to walk and trails right beside me.
“ Your name is Lucy right?” She asks.
“ yeah, it is anyways I am sorry Lexi but there is somewhere I need to run to.”
I leave quickly even before she could reply.
I find a secluded area and strip from my clothes and shift into my wolf.
She needed to be out she has been cooked up for way too long and she was getting agitated with each passing minute.
I watch as she jumps on different branches enjoying herself.
She leaps from branch to branch I know she is smiling right now.
She finally lets me have control and I change back into my human form.
She stopped at the clearing near the pack bolder.
I breathe out as I look at the beautiful scenery in front of me.
It’s a field full of lilies my favorite place to come to.
It’s always so relaxing to be here.
I grab a t-shirt from the nearby bush and put it on.
Then I sit and just enjoy nature.
My mind is free somehow but my time doesn’t last long when I am distracted by the sound of footsteps.
Who would dare come to my comfort place?
I am quick to turn and look at the culprit when I hear myself gasp.
There he is standing tall and might glare at me like he wasn’t the one that found me here in the first place.
KAYDEN.
