“Alpha Zaden!” Avielle stood up hastily, lowering her head to greet him before she met his smiling eyes again.
“You were thinking about your mate just now, weren’t you?” “He is no longer my mate.” His eyes lit up at her words.
“Yes, he’s stupid enough to let a woman like you go.” He replied charmingly, his chocolate brown eyes sparkling as though he were looking at a priceless piece of art.
Avielle couldn’t deny that his words made her heart skip a beat.
“Just came in to remind you to think favorably about going to the ball as my date.” “Actually Alpha Zaden, I…” “Not yet.” He raised a finger to gently silence her.
“You still have enough time to think about it, remember?” He flashed her a smile before backing away from her.
Avielle was at a loss by the time he was gone.
He wasn’t even being subtle about his interest in her anymore and it was scaring her.
“Here, take up Miss Tania’s lunch.” Madam Helen ordered, eyeing her with a mix of fascination and suspicion.
The woman’s tone had softened considerably from her usual harshness, it was obvious she was deciding if she would be nice to Avielle from now on seeing that the alpha who never came into the kitchens had actually been here just to visit her.
“Yes, madam Helen.” Avielle carried the tray and went up to the alpha’s sister’s bedroom, knocking politely and entering only when she was told to do so.
The inside was a luxurious feminine space that smelled like burnt roses in fall.
Tania was trying on a new set of jewelry by her vanity table.
“Your lunch, miss Tania.” Avielle said respectfully acting like an omega would as she dropped the tray on the table.
She had become conscious of how she behaved since Zaden had pointed out that she wasn’t at all like an omega.
“Stop!” Tania’s voice carried over the moment Avielle was turning her back to leave.
Tania came up to her looking her over like someone assessing a product, “You’re quite pretty despite being heavily pregnant, but don’t even think for a second that you can trap that child on my brother.” The amount of hostility that came out of Tania’s tone surprised Avielle.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about Miss Tania.
If there’s nothing else, I have to go back to work.” Though Avielle did her best to be respectful, Tania was pissed off by her words.
She grabbed her by the arm, stopping her before she could leave.
“You’re just a useless omega, when I’m talking to you, wait obediently until I permit you to leave.” “You’re hurting me.” Avielle said calmly despite the pain, feeling the way her grip was tightening around her arm.
Any tighter and she would snap Avielle’s bones in two with her alpha strength.
“A scheming little temptress like you deserves to be hurt.” Tania spat.
Avielle gritted her teeth, holding Elsie back when she wanted to surface.
If it wouldn’t risk busting her cover, she could very easily twist Tania’s arm until she cried for mercy, but that would only end up revealing the fact that Avielle had an alpha wolf as well and her identity would be compromised.
“Forgive me if I’ve offended you, Miss Tania.” Avielle put as much meekness as she could in her tone, suppressing her anger.
“Your apologies mean nothing to me.
You’re just a nasty slut who got herself pregnant and now you’re trying to pin your responsibility to my brother.
I know very well you’ve been trying to seduce him with that same innocent act you’re giving me right now.” “You’re making a mistake, I’m not trying to…” Slap!
Avielle’s words were cut off by a harsh impact to her face.
Tania hit her hard enough to make her stumble two steps backwards, if she were truly an omega, the force of it would have knocked her to the floor.
It was a good thing Tania didn’t think too much of it because Avielle wasn’t willing to fall to the floor and harm her own child just to keep up the performance for Tania.
Avielle protected her stomach and steadied herself, ignoring the pain on her face as she slowly looked back at Tania, her dark blue eyes sharpened.
“What are you looking at, do you think you can hit me back?” For a moment, Avielle was tempted to do just that.
To slap her hard enough until she bleeds, but she controlled herself and lowered her head submissively.
“I wouldn’t dare think of it, Miss Tania.” “it’s best you know your place.
And know that a nobody like you can never match up to my brother.
If you know what’s best for you, stay away from him.
Understood?” Avielle nodded quietly.
“Good, now get out.” With a secretly clenched fist, Avielle walked out of the room without looking back.
Only when Tania couldn’t see her face did her eyes flash from blue to black then back again.
Madam Helen saw the huge red finger marks on her face and looked momentarily startled but didn’t say anything.
It seemed she was used to something like this and there was no sense of justice for the servants in the palace.
Avielle continued her work for the day as if nothing happened.
After sunset, madam Helen randomly told her she could go home early today since the Alpha’s family were going to be having dinner outside the palace tonight.
Avielle cleaned up for the day and left, walking slowly to the bus stop like she did everyday unaware of a speeding motorcycle heading her way with no control at all on the rider’s part.
Looking closely, one might think the rider was deliberately heading for her.
By the time Avielle heard the sound, it was too late.
Her eyes widened and her body froze completely in shock, even though she knew she should move or jump out of the way, it was as though her legs were made of lead.
‘Oh goddess, my babies…’ Her eyes closed instinctively as a large crash suddenly sounded.
