Princess Cassy’s POV The continuous banging on the door broke into my sleep.

As my eyes gradually opened, a sharp pain shot through my head.

It ached so badly that I couldn’t keep my eyes open.

Then I heard it again, this time…

louder and impatient.

“Princess Cassy!” Lora, my maid called from outside the door.

“Please say something, Princess.

Are you okay?” I could hear the worry in her voice as she continued banging on the door.

But she knew too well than to enter my room unless I asked her to.

“What are you doing?

Open the door!” My eyes flew open the moment I heard Luna Amelia’s voice, and I jerked upright.

As I tried to get out of bed, the door swung open and Luna Amelia stormed in with a fierce determination.

“Leave us!” She commanded the maids who had rushed in with her, as she stopped in front of me.

“Luna!” I said, lowering my head, my hands held together in front of me.

The maids quickly scurried out of the room and shut the door behind them.

Luna Amelia let out a breath and sat beside me, concern deeply etched across her face.

“What happened last night?” She whispered, searching my face.

My brows furrowed as soon as I heard her, but almost immediately, realization struck me and my eyes widened.

I was supposed to wake up beside Tristine.

What happened?

How did I end up in my room instead?

The questions ran wild in my mind.

My heart began to race as I searched through my memory, but it was foggy.

After a while, I gave up and shook my head, desperation settling within me.

“I’m not sure, Luna,” I replied, my voice faltering as I lowered my gaze in disappointment.

Luna Amelia grabbed my arms, forcing me to look at her.

“Think harder,” she snapped, her eyes wide open.

“Did you sleep with him?

Do you feel sore in between your legs?

Why is your lingerie still intact and not torn?

Did he mark you?” Her questions tumbled from her lips as her grip on my arms tightened.

I clenched my fists, anger surging within me, and I nibbled on my lower lip as I realized none of what she had mentioned happened.

Then I tore my gaze from her and shook my head as the weight of failure settled within me.

Luna Amelia shot to her feet, her golden-rimmed eyes blazing with fury.

“How could you miss such a perfect opportunity to become his Luna?” She hissed, her jaw tightening.

“Who then slept with the Alpha?” Her words slammed into me, and for a moment, I froze.

The news that Alpha Tristine had slept with another woman when it was supposed to be me was a slap to my face.

I couldn’t accept that another woman had ripped the benefit of my effort.

After a while, I snapped back to the present and grabbed Luna Amelia’s fingers.

“Luna, how did you know he slept with another woman?” Desperation etched into every word.

“Did you see her?

Who’s she?” My breath grew heavy as I stared into her eyes, my heart banging against my chest.

I wanted to be sure she knew what she was talking about.

“I went to his room this morning, hoping to find you there as planned,” she began, a little calmer than earlier.

“I saw every other thing, the rumpled sheets, the blood stains on the bed, but you weren’t there.” I let go of her hands as my gaze glazed over.

Suddenly, a jolt of memory shot through my mind, and a fragment from the previous night replayed before my eyes.

It was when Alpha Tristine asked Lux to drag me out of his room.

My lips twisted as my fists tightened.

I just couldn’t understand why Alpha Tristine sent me out of his room yet spent the night with another woman.

It should’ve been me.

The thought of it alone filled my veins with fury.

I had never been so humiliated in my life before.

My mind began to run wild with possibilities and the worst scenario: what if he had marked her as his Luna?

What if she became pregnant?

What if she was his maid?

No!

There was no way I could let it happen.

I wouldn’t sit still and watch a filthy maid or whoever she was take my man.

I snapped back to the present, my lips twisting.

“We need to find her, Luna.

We have to correct this mistake,” I said, holding her gaze.

My body shook slightly from a restrained fury and my breath grew louder in my ears.

“Don’t worry, Cassy,” Luna Amelia replied in a matching intensity.

“I won’t let any mishap happen.” Her lips curled into a determined snarl.

I nodded, but I didn’t feel any relief at all.

Deep within, I couldn’t shake off the desperation that gnawed at my heart.

I needed to find the person who had shared Alpha Tristine’s bed as soon as possible.

I needed to make her regret setting her gaze on Alpha Tristine.

“Get ready, we need to pay the Alpha a visit,” Luna Amelia’s words snapped me back to the present.

For a moment, I hesitated, I could bring myself to face him after I had drugged him.

The thought of how my plan had failed filled me with embarrassment.

Luna Amelia placed her hands on my shoulders and gave them a slight squeeze.

“I know what you’re worried about, Cassy.

But don’t worry, he wouldn’t remember anything, and even if he did, you could tell him someone had spiked your drink.” Her lips curled into a reassuring smile as she held my gaze.

“Who knows, it could give us a clue of the person we’re looking for.

His maids are the prime suspect, we could place it on any of them while carrying out our investigation.” My lips curled into a smirk as soon as I heard her.

Deep within, I was glad Luna Amelia and I shared the same goal.

I nodded.

“I’ll be waiting for you in my chambers,” Luna Amelia said, and turned toward the door.

As the door closed behind her, a great sense of urgency overwhelmed me, filling me with wrath.

“Lora!” The door swiftly opened and my maid rushed in.

“Yes, Princess!” She answered, lowering her head.

“I want you to go to the Alpha’s quarter and get me the names of all the maids who served at the Alpha’s chambers the previous night,” I said, firmly, staring into her eyes.

Lora’s brows knitted, I could sense the hesitation within her, but she bowed her head instead.

“Yes, Princess,” she replied with a small voice.

The words had barely left her lips when I waved her away, and a scene from that day…

ten years ago replayed before my eyes.

The day the Princes and Princesses of different Packs had converged in Purple Moon Pack for the annual meeting.

It was the day Alpha Tristine had saved me from the man who had sneaked into the garden where I was and wanted to kill me.

It was that day I made up my mind to become his Luna, and as that memory lingered, I felt a renewed resolve to pursue my goal.

“Tristine,” I whispered.

“I won’t let another woman have you.

Never!”
