Note: All characters are adults. The male and female leads are neighbors and childhood friends! (Their parents are good friends and neighbors—no adoption! No blood relation! Purely helping to look after her! Dear reviewer, please see clearly!)
“I… really…”
“Such a good girl.”
The man’s large hand caressed her cheek, his abs gleaming enticingly in the dim light.
“What reward would you like?”
“Mm…”
She hadn’t yet said it out loud.
The man’s warm body pressed down over hers, intoxicating and hazy.
…
“Abs feel so nice.”
In the hospital room, the unconscious Chu Yanyan suddenly murmured this in her sleep.
Bai Zhiyuan and Bai Xu listened to her rambling and exchanged glances.
Bai Xu asked, “What is she saying?”
Bai Zhiyuan replied, “Filthy language.”
After a long while, Chu Yanyan’s lashes finally fluttered open.
The snow-white ceiling came into view, stinging her not-yet-fully-awake eyes.
Where was this?
That dream just now was so embarrassing!
In the dream, with a man whose face she hadn’t even seen…
Her head throbbed violently, and every bone in her body felt like it had been ground to pieces.
Bai Xu immediately rose and hurried off to fetch the attending physician.
The doctor came, shone a penlight into her pupils—her reactions were normal, and all her vital signs were normal too.
“The patient is out of danger.”
Chu Yanyan tilted her head, her timid gaze wandering among the unfamiliar faces in the room, and asked softly, “Who are you?”
Bai Xu stepped forward and called to her tentatively, “Yanyan, you don’t recognize him and me?”
Her eyes widened, and then, like a frightened little animal, she shrank back under the covers in a flash.
Only a pair of lost, helpless eyes remained visible.
“I don’t know you.”
The doctor explained, “The patient suffered a head injury. Temporary amnesia is possible.”
Temporary amnesia.
Hearing those words, Bai Xu secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
Chu Yanyan pressed her dry lips together. So she had lost her memory.
No wonder she didn’t recognize a single one of the people before her.
She couldn’t remember anything that had happened before she arrived at the hospital either.
Gathering her courage, she asked in a tiny voice, “What is your relationship with me?”
Bai Zhiyuan was just about to speak. “I—”
Bai Xu immediately cut in, speaking at breakneck speed without a moment’s hesitation.
“Your name is Chu Yanyan. When you were ten, both your parents passed away. My parents were your parents’ best friends, and we were neighbors, so we’re basically childhood friends…
All these years, it’s been my big brother taking care of you.”
He pointed at Bai Zhiyuan, and quietly concealed the fact that their parents had arranged a childhood engagement between the two of them.
Bai Zhiyuan turned his head, his gaze sweeping over Bai Xu like a cold blade, his eyes sharp.
Bai Xu hastily shot him a pleading look, begging him not to expose the lie.
All these years, at his parents’ behest, Bai Xu had diligently looked after Chu Yanyan’s daily needs, going to and from school with her.
He’d claimed that since he and she were the same age, they had more in common and got along better.
Bai Zhiyuan was a full eight years older than her, and he’d worried the age gap would be inconvenient.
And so began ten years of Bai Xu slaving away for Chu Yanyan.
She clung to him all day long, dragging him along into everything, big or small.
Like a little tail that couldn’t be shaken off.
It was truly exhausting. He just wanted a chance to breathe.
After hearing all this, Chu Yanyan shrank deep into the covers again, curling herself up into a little ball like a kitten.
How tragic—both parents gone.
Bai Zhiyuan gave Bai Xu a faint glance and said in a low voice, “Come out here.”
Bai Xu followed him out of the hospital room, nearly dropping to his knees on the spot. “Big brother, I really need a breather. Can you take care of Yanyan for a while?”
He wanted freedom. He wanted to breathe air that didn’t have Chu Yanyan in it.
Bai Zhiyuan’s jaw was tightly set, the lines of his profile looking especially cold and hard under the corridor lights.
His voice carried authority. “Nonsense. Don’t you know she’s afraid of me?”
Back then, he had picked up a love letter that had accidentally slipped out of her bag.
Every word on those pages was cloyingly sweet.
He had flown into a rage and given her a harsh scolding.
He told her that she was at an age when she should be focusing on her studies, and shouldn’t have such filthy, indecent thoughts.
She had been so frightened that her face was covered in tears, and she cried for days, her eyes swollen like peaches.
So afterward…
She only clung to Bai Xu, and whenever she saw him, she kept her distance.
Bai Xu looked anxious, terrified that he would refuse.
“That was in the past. She has amnesia now—she doesn’t remember you scolding her.”
Bai Zhiyuan glanced sideways, his expression indifferent, no ripple in his eyes. “I think you just want to date that girl named Yun Xi.”
At that name, a faint flush crept up Bai Xu’s ears, though he refused to admit it.
“We’re just classmates. It hasn’t gotten to that point.”
“Do you like her?”
He said nothing, but the red on his ears deepened—a silent admission.
Because Chu Yanyan clung to him all day, he never even had the chance to get near other girls.
He was human too. He wanted a private life of his own.
“Bro…”
Bai Zhiyuan’s expression remained cold and stern, like a distant mountain dusted with a thin layer of snow.
He warned in a deep voice, “Are you sure about this? If she regains her memory and finds out you deceived her, she’ll definitely be angry.”
“She won’t.”
Bai Xu honestly didn’t care about that.
Besides, Chu Yanyan was easy to appease—a textbook little foodie.
Buy her a piece of her favorite black tea cake to coax her, and everything would be fine.
“Don’t regret it later.”
“I won’t regret it.”
Then Bai Xu made a phone call, telling the family servants to pack up all of Chu Yanyan’s belongings and deliver them to Bai Zhiyuan’s residence.
He walked back into the hospital room.
Bai Zhiyuan was bending over, gathering up Chu Yanyan’s clothes.
His fingers were long and slender, his knuckles distinct, his composure effortless and unshowy.
He straightened up, his voice low and steady. “Yanyan, the doctor says you’re fine now. Come home with me.”
Only then did Chu Yanyan take a proper look at the man before her.
He was about one point nine meters tall, with broad, straight shoulders, a nose bridge as lofty as a mountain peak, and an air of aloof nobility.
His eyes were unfathomably deep, dark and still.
Chu Yanyan froze for a moment.
Then she pushed back the covers and obediently answered, “Okay.”
Afterward, the two of them walked out of the hospital entrance, one after the other.
Watching their retreating figures, Bai Xu was so happy he couldn’t help shouting “Yes!” in his heart.
He was finally free of Chu Yanyan.
His life of freedom was about to begin.
The car wound its way around until it finally drove into an old manor.
In the back seat, Chu Yanyan leaned against the car window, looking outside, her eyes lighting up again and again as she let out a low gasp of wonder. “Wow!”
But then it occurred to her—she only found it novel because of her amnesia. Before, she must have seen it every day just by opening her window.
Bai Zhiyuan sat beside her, eyes closed, resting.
The dim light inside the car traced his profile into a sharp silhouette.
His nose bridge was so high and straight it seemed almost unreal—you could use it as a slide.
He was so handsome.
Chu Yanyan swallowed unconsciously, moistening her slightly dry throat.
She cautiously reached out and gently tugged at his sleeve.
Bai Zhiyuan opened his eyes and turned to look at her.
A flicker of surprise passed through his deep, dark eyes.
So she really had lost her memory.
Before, she wouldn’t have given him so much as a glance or a single word.
And now, she actually dared to touch his clothes.
She blinked at him pitifully, her voice soft as a marshmallow, “I’m hungry.”
He sat up straight, his long fingers rubbing his aching temples, his voice softening a little. “We’ll be there soon. The food’s already ready.”
“Okay.”
Back at the estate, the dining table was already covered with steaming dishes.
Chu Yanyan took a deep breath and nearly drooled at the aroma.
Her memory might be gone, but her nose was unbelievably sharp.
Bai Zhiyuan picked up a bowl and chopsticks and gently pushed them in front of her.
Suddenly, he frowned, his gaze landing on one corner of the table.
“Didn’t I say no shrimp in the food?”
Shrimp! Love it, love it!
Chu Yanyan’s eyes lit up, and her chopsticks were already reaching out, picking up a piece of shrimp and heading straight for her mouth.
Bai Zhiyuan swiftly raised his hand, his broad palm gently covering her mouth, while his other hand knocked the shrimp off the tips of her chopsticks.
“You’re allergic to seafood.” His tone was calm, yet left no room for argument.
“Okay.”
Chu Yanyan obediently put down her chopsticks, but a warmth quietly welled up in her heart.
It seemed he really did take meticulous care of her.
He even remembered exactly what she was allergic to.
After dinner.
A servant led Chu Yanyan to her own room.
Suitcases were piled on the floor, clothes scattered everywhere, not yet tidied up.
Her pupils dilated slightly.
Oh my god—was she really this sloppy before she lost her memory?
The room was a mess, like it had been burgled.
She quickly shut the door behind her, an awkward smile on her face. “I can tidy it up myself.”
But as she tidied, a diary slipped out of a suitcase and thudded onto the floor.
She bent down to pick it up and flipped it open casually.
One page, two pages, three pages…
Her face grew redder and redder as she read—red like burning clouds, the blush spreading all the way to her ears.
This was no diary. It was clearly a miniature erotic notebook…
Page after page, densely packed with all kinds of unspeakable thoughts.
“He’s so handsome every single day!”
“I want to hold his hand…”
“I want to plant a hundred hickeys on his Adam’s apple.”
“I want to sleep on his abs…”
“I want to make out with him for two hours.”
“Investigate further…”
…
Disclaimer: A brainless, fluffy slice-of-life sweet story, slow and steady.
The female lead is an adorable girl who loves to act cute and seduce; the male lead is a steady, restrained, daddy-type big shot.
Both leads are clean/faithful.
There are small misunderstandings, minor episodes, a bit of jealousy, and some talking things out—but maybe not the kind of talking things out you’d expect. If you don’t like it, feel free to skip—it’s a HE (happy ending) anyway.
There’s both female and male rivalry~
