“Sesshomaru-sama, the demons under Inuyasha-sama have been causing quite a stir throughout the Western Lands lately.
Even the Panther Tribe is working for him now.” Jaken followed behind Sesshomaru along a mountain path, chattering endlessly.
“Royakan and the others used to be your subordinates.
Now Inuyasha-sama has taken advantage of them instead.
What a waste…” Watching his master’s unwavering back, Jaken sighed inwardly.
Before meeting Rin, Sesshomaru had been the perfect example of a demon free from worldly desires, aside from his endless obsession with his one true love—Tessaiga.
He could barely be bothered to visit his own home, much less travel with a group of burdens.
Jaken’s dream of riding Sesshomaru’s reputation into a life where he could lord over others remained hopelessly distant.
His mouth opened, and the chatter continued.
“And what’s this about collecting resurrection arts?
Everyone knows the dead cannot return.
Even if sorcery revives them, they’ll only be walking corpses.
There’s little meaning in that.” Hearing this, Sesshomaru lowered his gaze toward Tenseiga, the sword at his waist capable of reviving the dead.
“Jaken, whom does Inuyasha wish to revive?” Jaken froze, having never expected Sesshomaru to respond.
He quickly sorted through everything he had learned before answering.
“Sesshomaru-sama, none of the demons mentioned Inuyasha-sama wanting to revive anyone in particular.” Sesshomaru had no interest in investigating further and continued walking.
This time, he intended to return home and ask his mother where his father’s tomb lay.
There, he would reclaim one of the Three Swords of Supreme Conquest—the Sword of the Human Realm, Tessaiga.
Inuyasha’s interference had brought the war against the panthers to an abrupt and anticlimactic end.
The result had left Sesshomaru deeply frustrated and hungrier than ever for greater power.
When Sesshomaru fell silent again, Jaken resumed talking.
“I also heard Inuyasha-sama intends to build the greatest demon city in the world.” He curled his lip.
“Hmph!
Without Sesshomaru-sama guarding it, that demon city will be nothing but an empty shell unworthy of its name!” Sesshomaru suddenly stopped.
Lost in his own speech, Jaken failed to brake and slammed into his master’s calf.
He bounced backward and staggered two steps before regaining his balance.
As Jaken rubbed his nose and complained inwardly, Sesshomaru’s cool voice reached his ears.
“Inuyasha, why are you here?” Jaken’s body stiffened as cold sweat instantly covered his back.
He cautiously stretched his neck and spotted the silver-haired figure in red ahead, accompanied by that terrifying demoness.
Yura stood quietly beside Inuyasha, the thin sash around her waist fluttering in the breeze.
Her eyes settled on Jaken with an amused, knowing smile.
His teeth began chattering.
He swiftly ducked behind Sesshomaru and hid his head like an ostrich.
Inuyasha strode forward without a care and stopped directly before Sesshomaru.
“Obviously, I’m going to the old man’s tomb to claim the Tessaiga he left me.” Sesshomaru raised an eyebrow, his tone turning cold.
“Your Tessaiga?
You have quite the nerve saying that in front of your elder brother.” “The old man didn’t leave Tessaiga to you.
Instead, he gave you the healing Sword of Heaven—Tenseiga.
What more is there to explain?” Inuyasha taunted him openly.
“Sesshomaru, the old man thought you lacked compassion and desperately needed some love!” “Is that so?” Sesshomaru narrowed his eyes as a cold light moved through his golden pupils.
“Only incomplete half-demons like you crave human love and affection.
I, Sesshomaru, have no need for such things!” “Really, Sesshomaru?” Inuyasha’s eyes lit up.
“Then swear it if you have the nerve!” “Hmph.
Silence!” Sesshomaru moved without warning, his Poison Claws glowing green as they slashed toward Inuyasha’s face.
Inuyasha tilted his head aside and retaliated with a claw of his own.
The brothers clashed once again, their figures weaving between the trees as claw winds and lashes of light blasted rings of force through the forest.
With Sesshomaru no longer shielding him, Jaken was left exposed.
Yura smiled at the trembling minor yokai and raised one finger.
Strands of hair wrapped around Jaken’s ankles and hoisted him upside down into the air.
“Slander Inuyasha-sama again, and I’ll cut out your tongue.” Yura tilted her head as she watched the bald little demon nod frantically, his eyes overflowing with the will to survive.
Her expression was filled with delight.
After their initial exchange, Inuyasha had no desire to remain tangled up with Sesshomaru.
He flipped backward to create some distance and shook out the sleeve that the Poison Claws had grazed, leaving a white mark.
“That’s enough.
Once we reach the old man’s tomb and reclaim Tessaiga, we’ll have all the time we need to fight.” Having confirmed that his younger brother was genuinely strong and could not be defeated quickly, Sesshomaru lowered his claws and stared at him coldly.
“Tell me how to reach it.” “A place that can be seen but never seen through, and a place the tomb’s true guardian can never see—that is where the old man’s grave lies.” Inuyasha pointed toward his right eye.
“Inside my eye is a Black Pearl that leads to the realm between the Netherworld and the mortal world.
The old man left his inheritance there.” “Removing the Black Pearl requires your demonic energy.” Toga had gone to extraordinary lengths to educate his two sons.
Their growth later in life proved just how far ahead he had planned.
For the current Inuyasha, however, those arrangements had become rather unnecessary.
Sesshomaru’s gaze sharpened as it settled upon pupils that shared his own golden color.
He raised a hand glowing with dim green light, and the corner of his mouth lifted.
“If you’re not afraid, come closer.” “Why would I be afraid of you?” Inuyasha scoffed and stepped forward.
His Device was already hidden beneath his skin, and the robe of blue flames could burst from his body at any moment.
He had nothing to fear.
Step by step, Inuyasha approached until Sesshomaru’s fingertips nearly touched his eyelashes.
Unaware of the half-demon’s hidden power, Sesshomaru stared at his brother’s smug certainty.
Although it made his frustration grow, he also felt a little more respect for Inuyasha.
After sensing the pearl’s location, Sesshomaru released demonic energy from his palm and drew an ink-black jewel from Inuyasha’s right eye—the Black Pearl.
Sesshomaru held it between two fingers and prepared to call his servant.
Then he noticed the green figure still hanging upside down in the air, and his expression darkened.
He swung the fur pelt from his shoulder, used it to retrieve the Staff of Two Heads from the ground, and placed the Black Pearl beneath the staff.
Sensing the Black Pearl’s power, the old man’s head atop the staff burst into laughter.
The next instant, a spiraling black passage tore open in the air.
Deep and silent, it led into the Border of the Afterlife between the world of the dead and the living world.
Other than a Black Pearl forged by Hosenki, only the underground gate in the Realm of Fire or Tekkei’s blood could open such a passage.
Sesshomaru entered without hesitation.
“Yura, let Jaken down.
We’re leaving.” Inuyasha beckoned to her, and the two entered the passage side by side.
After traveling through the dazzling, distorted tunnel, they dropped from the air.
The sky within the tomb was a vivid blue.
At a glance, they could see the colossal armored skeleton of the Dog General in his true canine form.
Jagged rocks surrounded his remains, while skeletal birds circled overhead.
Deep within those giant bones rested a treasured sword forged from one of his fangs.
