Chapter 4: The Throne of Ice and Ash

Apocalypse Conquest: Isekaied With The Harem System

The grand doors of the Royal Palace shattered under Kael's boot, splintering like brittle bone. Frost crackled along the edges of the broken wood, Lyra's Glacial Domain seeping into the cracks before them. The throne room beyond was a nightmare of gilded rot—blood streaked the marble floors, the air thick with the stench of decay and burnt incense.

'This is where the world ended,' Kael thought, his Yang Energy Core pulsing in anticipation.

At the far end of the hall, two figures sat upon twisted thrones. Emperor Aldric, once a man of regal bearing, was now a grotesque parody of royalty. His skin had split like overripe fruit, veins bulging black beneath the surface. The High Priest, Malachai, fared no better—his robes clung to a body warped by Abyssal energy, his fingers elongated into clawed, skeletal things.

Lyra's grip tightened around her manifested ice sword, her breath steady despite the sight. 'This was my Emperor,' she reminded herself. 'Now, he is just another corpse waiting to fall.'

"Ah," the Emperor croaked, his voice a wet, rattling thing. "The scavenger and his pet knight. How… quaint."

Kael smirked, stepping forward. His Appraisal Eye flickered to life, dissecting their weaknesses.

[Target: Emperor Aldric (Corrupted)]

[Status: Abyssal Rot (Stage 4), Mana Overload (Unstable)]

[Weakness: Holy Purification, Frost Vulnerability]

[Target: High Priest Malachai (Corrupted)]

[Status: Abyssal Symbiosis (Active), Shadowbound (Phase 2)]

[Weakness: Light Manipulation, Physical Disruption]

"You call me a scavenger," Kael said, rolling his shoulders. "Yet here you sit, rotting on a throne you've already lost."

The High Priest's laughter was a dry, clicking sound. "Arrogant fool. The Abyss has blessed us. We are beyond your comprehension."

Lyra's blade hummed with cold fury. "You were supposed to protect this kingdom," she spat. "Not feed it to the dark."

The Emperor's milky eyes flicked to her. "Ah, Lyra Vance. The Silver Valkyrie, reduced to a whore for a warlord. How far you've fallen."

Her jaw clenched, but Kael's hand brushed her wrist—a silent command. 'Patience.'

"Enough talk," Kael growled. "You're corpses who haven't realized they're dead yet."

The Emperor's grin split his face too wide. "Then let us… enlighten you."

The air screamed.

Abyssal energy erupted from the throne, a tidal wave of writhing darkness and jagged, bone-like spikes. Kael's Holy Frost Aura flared, meeting the corruption in a hissing clash of steam and frost. Lyra lunged forward, her Glacial Domain slamming down—absolute zero met the rot, freezing tendrils mid-lash.

[Combat Synergy Activated: Frost Maiden + Golden Apex Yang]

[Combined Skill: Holy Glacial Surge]

The throne room became a storm of ice and light. Kael's shadow lashed out, binding the High Priest's limbs for a fraction of a second—just long enough for Lyra to carve through the air, her ice sword aimed for the Emperor's throat.

A shield of blackened bone erupted, deflecting the strike. The High Priest's claws raked toward Lyra's flank—

Kael was already there. His fist, reinforced with Beginner Mana Body, shattered the priest's wrist with a wet crack.

The High Priest hissed, retreating. "Persistent pests."

The Emperor rose from his throne, his body cracking and reforming with every movement. "You cannot win," he rasped. "The Abyss is endless."

Kael wiped blood from his lip, grinning. "Good. Then I'll have plenty to kill."

The second wave came faster.

The High Priest's shadow split into a dozen spears, each tipped with screaming faces. The Emperor's body swelled, his flesh splitting further as Abyssal energy geysered from his wounds.

Lyra exhaled, her Frost Maiden bloodline singing in her veins. 'For Kael. For the new world.'

She met Kael's eyes—a silent understanding.

They moved as one.

The throne room became a maelstrom of frost and fury.

Kael's Golden Yang Energy Core burned white-hot, his muscles coiling like steel springs as he lunged. The Emperor's bloated form lashed out, tendrils of Abyssal rot whipping through the air—only to freeze solid mid-swing as Lyra's Glacial Domain locked the corruption in place.

'Perfect.'

Kael didn't hesitate. His fist, wreathed in Holy Frost Aura, slammed into the Emperor's chest. Flesh split like overripe fruit, blackened ribs snapping under the impact. The Emperor gagged, his milky eyes widening as Kael's fingers closed around his still-beating heart.

[Critical Strike: Holy Frost Purge]

[Target: Emperor Aldric (Corrupted) – HP: 0%]

A wet crunch echoed through the hall as Kael ripped the organ free. The Emperor's corpse collapsed, twitching, black bile pooling beneath it.

Lyra didn't pause. The High Priest was already weaving another spell, his skeletal fingers dancing through the air—until her ice sword sheared through his wrist.

"No more sermons," she snarled.

Malachai screamed, clutching the stump of his arm, but Kael was already behind him. A shadow-wrapped hand clamped over the priest's mouth, silencing his incantation mid-word.

"You talk too much," Kael growled.

Then he twisted.

The High Priest's neck snapped like dry kindling, his body going limp before it even hit the ground.

[Target Eliminated: High Priest Malachai (Corrupted)]

[Dominion Point gained- 1000]

[Bonus Objective Complete: Slay the Corrupted Rulers]

[TERRITORY CLAIMED: ROYAL PALACE]

Silence.

The only sound was the slow drip of blood from Kael's fist, the Emperor's heart still clenched in his grip. He exhaled, steam curling from his lips in the frozen air, and turned to Lyra.

She stood amidst the carnage, her ice sword melting into mist, her chest rising and falling with controlled breaths. Her blue eyes met his—no hesitation, no regret. Only fierce, unwavering loyalty.

'Mine.'

Kael dropped the heart onto the throne steps with a wet splat. Then he ascended, his boots leaving crimson prints on the marble.

The throne itself was grotesque—twisted by Abyssal energy, its gilded edges warped into jagged spikes. Kael didn't care. He sat, the cold metal biting into his back, and exhaled.

'Mine now.'

Lyra approached, her armor streaked with blackened blood. Without a word, she knelt at the foot of the throne, her head bowed.

"Rise, First Sword," Kael commanded.

She did, standing at his right hand like the blade she was—honed, lethal, and unbreakable.

The throne room doors groaned open. The surviving Royal Guard—those who hadn't fled or turned—stood frozen in the threshold, their weapons trembling in their hands.

Kael leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. "Kneel," he said, his voice low, "or join your Emperor."

One by one, they dropped.

Lyra's lips curled into a faint, satisfied smirk. 'This is how it should be.'

Kael's gaze drifted to the far wall, where a massive map of the capital sprawled—districts marked in ink, fortifications highlighted in gold. Most were already under his control.

But one spot remained.

The royal dungeons.
