The old city district fell down earlier and more severely than the eastern part of the city.

The three of them walked along the wall.

Lu Chen led the way, Su Wanhe followed a few steps behind, and A Gui carried the empty canvas bag and walked at the innermost part, breathing heavily.Full novel: Apocalypse Enhancement — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Every dozen steps along the street there was something – overturned cars, burnt-out shelves, and half-eaten people.

The fog was heavy, and the visible distance was less than a hundred meters.

“Third District Hospital, two more intersections ahead.” Su Wanhe stared at the door number.

The hospital lobby smelled of disinfectant mixed with decaying flesh.

The elevator shaft was dark.

Lu Chen didn’t let it ring, and the three of them took the safety passage.

The lock of the pharmacy on the second floor was old, and he slapped the handle, causing the lock tongue and the wooden frame to break together.

The medicine shelves were overturned, messy, but not emptied.

Antibiotic cabinets still had most of the compartments, along with sutures, painkillers, iodophor, and gauze, packed in two large bags.

“Enough.” Shen Wanqing wasn’t there.

Su Wanhe picked up the goods herself.

“Cephalosporin, sutures, painkillers, disinfection, all are here.”

Lu Chen looked down through the crack in the stairwell.

The first floor lobby was filled with humanoid shapes.

They didn’t move, didn’t call out, one was against another, as if placed there by someone.

“Upstairs.”

The three of them retreated to the middle of the hospital building, locked the fireproof door, and pushed a hospital bed to seal it.

The window at the end of the corridor faced outward.

Su Wanhe leaned against the window ledge and counted for two minutes, her face darkening.

The ground floor was a dark mass, stretching from the hospital entrance all the way to the opposite side of the road.

That density was greater than anything she had ever seen before.

But they didn’t attack.

The first few ones had already reached the ground floor, looking up, making a “hoo-hoo” sound, but not moving.

More kept pouring in from behind, but it was like being held back by an invisible line – just contained, not attacking.

“Where’s the problem?”

“There aren’t any runners.” She handed the binoculars over.

“The entire street has none.

The fastest batch usually, is all gone.”

Lu Chen looked further.

The corpses in the group were all sluggish walkers, none with anything else.

They were packed so tightly, yet all facing this building, with their faces tilted upwards, quietly.

Not like a siege.

Like waiting.

He subconsciously raised his head and looked at the row of shadows on the opposite side of the street.

In the fog, nothing could be seen clearly, but the sweat on his back cooled off a layer.

“Add another layer to the door.” He said.

“Tonight, we can’t leave.”
