The corner of the back alley could only accommodate two people standing.

The medicine packages were thrown against the wall.

At the front entrance of the alley, people had squeezed together against the wall; the newly collapsed gap behind them was also starting to spread towards this direction.

If one could run, the medicine belt wouldn’t carry them away; but with the medicine on, no one could run fast.

Aigui reached out to grab the packages, but Su Wan held him down.

“Put them down.”

She herself knew that this statement wasn’t reasonable.

Her eyes were filled with medicine – cefazolin, sutures, iodophor, all the things needed for emergency treatment in the supermarket.

But the blood on her shoulder was dripping onto the wall along her arm.

Lu Chen looked at the front, then at the two packages of medicine.

“Don’t look around.” He said.

Su Wanmu didn’t understand this sentence.

He crouched down, placing one hand on the medicine package.

The two packages of medicine, the scattered gauze, the rolling medicine bottles, all collapsed inward and disappeared.

The wall corner was empty, not a single thread remained.

Su Wanmu’s breathing paused for a beat.

She had seen the Awakeners, seen the strength to overturn a truck.

But something disappearing from the world like this – not a single word about it in the briefing.

She stared at the empty wall corner, her finger still resting on the trigger.

“Run.” Lu Chen had already turned around.

“If there’s anything, wait until dawn to talk.”

He used his shoulder to push back the gap behind him, forcing out a sliver of space.

Aigui didn’t follow – the wave-like figure had split the alley into two parts.

When Lu Chen turned back, he saw him push the canvas bag forward, the bag rolling to Su Wanmu’s feet, and the person was submerged by that shadow.

Looking back, he was no longer in the alley.

The two of them ran along the wall corner.

Su Wanmu remained silent the whole way.

After two blocks, the sounds of the dead had faded.

She suddenly stopped. New chapters come out on g.com first.

“You just…

did that on purpose to let me see,” she said, not asking.

Lu Chen didn’t reply.

He leaned against the wall, panting, with blood oozing from the wound on his side, his face extremely pale.

“Why.”

He looked at the wound on her shoulder, then at her.

“If you don’t know, this entire journey will end in your death.”

Su Wanmu remained silent for a long time.

She understood.

He wasn’t trusting her, but saving his life – carrying a person he didn’t know the details of away, sooner or later something would go wrong.

He would rather lay out the most dangerous things for her to see.

“You can hide things.” He finally added.

“Don’t make a fuss.”

At the other end of the alley, footsteps grew closer again.

The sky began to turn a pale gray.
