“Boss, don’t believe her,” the middle-aged woman cried out urgently. “How could she possibly fight off those monsters alone? She’s just trying to trick us into opening the door.”
“Manager Wu, there really isn’t any sound outside,” a young man who was firmly holding Song You’ai’s arm whispered in defense, tilting his head to listen carefully.
“Bang! Bang!” Xie Ning knocked on the door again, her impatience growing.
“If you don’t open the door, I’ll start chopping it down. Don’t blame me if the noise attracts more zombies.”
With that, Xie Ning swung her knife, its tip piercing through the door.
The people inside were startled, their faces turning pale.
“Accountant Song, how can your daughter break down the door? Isn’t she disregarding everyone’s safety?”
“Boss, maybe we should let her in. If the door gets destroyed, we won’t be able to keep those monsters out!”
The man in a suit and tie scowled, his thick eyebrows furrowed tightly. He turned to look at Song You’ai, who was pinned against the wall by Manager Wu.
“You really raised a fine daughter!” the middle-aged woman sneered.
“Wu Hong, you’re as selfish as ever,” Song You’ai retorted defiantly. “If it were your son outside, you’d have rushed to open the door long ago.”
The middle-aged woman’s face darkened as she slapped Song You’ai in anger. “Who are you calling selfish? Who—”
“Ah!” A sudden scream came from behind.
Song You’ai and the others looked up, their souls nearly leaving their bodies.
The loading worker who had been sitting silently in the corner had suddenly lunged forward and bitten into Xiao Li’s shoulder blade.
The sound of chewing sent chills down everyone’s spines.
“Quick, tie him up!” the man in the suit and tie shouted, trembling as he waddled toward the door with his beer belly.
The loading worker zombie was drawn by the man’s shouts. It released Xiao Li, whom it had bitten several times, and suddenly lunged at the man in the suit.
In the blink of an eye, the man grabbed Wu Hong, who was standing by the door, and shoved her toward the zombie.
“Ah!” Manager Wu screamed in terror, colliding head-on with the loading worker zombie in a “warm embrace.”
Before the zombie could react, Wu Hong struggled desperately, breaking free with all her might. Turning around, she saw Song You’ai trying to open the door, and a flash of malice crossed her eyes.
The office door was suddenly smashed through with several heavy blows from a knife, turning into a pile of splintered wood in moments.
The first thing Xie Ning saw as she broke through the door was the old woman Wu Hong shoving her mother toward the zombie.
“Mom!” Xie Ning roared, charging forward like a young leopard.
Several heavy punches landed on Wu Hong’s back, making the middle-aged woman scream in pain.
Furious, Xie Ning grabbed the back of the middle-aged woman’s neck and slammed her head against the wall with a heavy thud.
“Bang!” Wu Hong collapsed to the ground, her screams abruptly cut off.
The loading worker zombie howled and lunged forward, foolishly impaling itself on the knife Xie Ning held out.
With a “thud,” the blade pierced through the zombie’s forehead and out the back of its skull.
The man in the suit and tie was thoroughly frightened by the girl’s brutal methods. Pale-faced and trembling, he hurriedly waddled toward the door.
Unfortunately, as soon as he stepped outside, he ran into a zombie with wide, staring eyes. It bit into his neck, and after a brief struggle, his cries gradually faded away.
“Mom, let’s go!” With all this commotion, it was sure to attract every zombie nearby.
Xie Ning’s expression was grave. There was no time to catch up with her mother. She grabbed her mom’s hand and rushed out the door.
“Don’t, don’t go out! There are monsters everywhere outside, all monsters!”
