Jiang Li followed behind Fang Qingxun, and the two of them arrived at the place where Chen Dashun and his group had been staying, a small warehouse. There was no one at the entrance.
They quietly approached the warehouse and looked inside through the window. As Fang Qingxun had said, there were only a little over ten people inside, and a few injured ones were lying on the ground resting.
The two of them coordinated their actions. Jiang Li chose a position and threw a stone toward the entrance to create a sound, drawing attention from inside.
Hearing the noise, two people were sent out to investigate. As they walked forward into a blind spot, Jiang Li and Fang Qingxun suddenly jumped out, each taking one target. Without giving them any time to react, one hand quickly covered their mouths while the other slit their throats, and both men went completely silent.
Jiang Li and Fang Qingxun then returned to the warehouse entrance. After a while, the people inside noticed that the two who had gone out had not returned and realized something was wrong.
They left two people behind to take care of the injured, while the rest grabbed their knives and left the warehouse. Not far from the entrance, they saw the two men who had gone out lying on the ground. Upon checking, they discovered they were already dead.
After those people left, Jiang Li and Fang Qingxun quietly slipped into the warehouse. Once the group had gone far enough, the two of them quickly dealt with the two people left to care for the injured.
When the others saw the two who suddenly appeared, they immediately shouted.
“Someone! They’re here!”
Before the others could return, the two of them quickly eliminated the remaining targets. Those who tried to escape toward the door were finished off by Fang Qingxun with a single strike.
Outside, the remaining men heard the commotion and realized they had been tricked. They hurried back, only to see Jiang Li and Fang Qingxun killing people inside the warehouse. They raised their knives and charged forward.
There were only a dozen or so people to begin with, and after being eliminated in groups by Jiang Li and Fang Qingxun, the remaining ones were easily dealt with.
After it was over, Jiang Li saw that the warehouse shelves were filled with food. After all, the more people there were, the more food they consumed. There were even some medical supplies. The two of them split the items between them, packed everything up, and left the warehouse.
After leaving, Jiang Li and Fang Qingxun chatted for a while before parting ways. Fang Qingxun watched Jiang Li’s departing figure and felt a bit regretful, he actually wanted to become friends with her. But since he still had more important things to do, he didn’t know if they would ever meet again in the future.
Neither Jiang Li nor Fang Qingxun would know that they would meet again not long after this, and eventually become teammates who could trust each other completely. But that is a story for later.
After Jiang Li was out of Fang Qingxun’s sight, she stored everything into her space. Then, as before, she rode her small donkey toward the base, collecting supplies along the way while moving forward. Occasionally, she would encounter other people, but she always avoided them to prevent trouble. If she really couldn’t avoid them and someone tried to cause trouble, she showed no mercy.
Several more days passed like this, and Jiang Li had already arrived in H City. She resumed her wandering pattern within the city, planning to continue collecting useful supplies while slowly making her way toward the base.
Sometimes there would still be earthquakes, so she would pause and rest. Living alone, Jiang Li was quite carefree, she ate whatever she wanted, planted things in her space, and took care of her animals. Her days were extremely comfortable. Once she reached the base, she likely wouldn’t be able to live so freely anymore, and strong-smelling food might not even be allowed, so she was in no rush to get there.
What she didn’t expect was that she would meet Gu Jin again so soon, but this time, he looked rather messy.
At that moment, Gu Jin was being chased by two tigers. This area used to be near the largest wildlife museum in H City, which housed many kinds of fierce animals.
During the extreme heat period, staff used to come at night to feed them, but later the staff stopped working. With no one feeding them, the animals were left starving for a long time, becoming agitated and even killing each other. When the earthquakes came, the buildings collapsed, no longer able to contain them. They roamed the city searching for food. Having already been hungry for so long, they became even more ferocious after escaping, and many people had already become their prey.
Gu Jin happened to be passing through this area when he was targeted by one of the tigers. He raised his gun and fired, but although the tiger was large, it was very fast, making it difficult to hit a fatal spot in one shot. The injured tiger let out a roar and became even more vicious.
While Gu Jin was fighting the first tiger, another one suddenly appeared. He immediately dodged, but still got scratched across the chest. The roar of the tiger also attracted a third one nearby.
If it had been just one, Gu Jin could still handle it, but two was already stretching his limits. Fortunately, his skills were strong, and the city environment provided many buildings and obstacles. The tigers’ large bodies couldn’t enter many spaces, making it difficult for them to catch him.
At that moment, Gu Jin was inside a collapsed structure. The gap was just wide enough for a person to pass through. The tigers, being too large, could only guard the two exits. Even when they tried to reach in with their claws, they couldn’t touch him. One of the tigers even attempted to attack from above, but the opening was too narrow for it to get through.
The smell of blood kept stimulating the tigers, making them repeatedly slam into the structure. Gu Jin knew he had to leave as soon as possible. The scent of blood would attract more animals, and the building itself wouldn’t hold much longer. The longer he stayed, the more blood he would lose, making it even harder to escape.
Just as he was thinking about how to get out, he heard the sound of a motorcycle outside. Soon after, the tigers actually left in that direction. Gu Jin looked outside and saw Jiang Li, holding a large piece of meat and riding a motorcycle to lure the tigers away. He immediately ran out, wanting to tell her not to bother with him, but Jiang Li had already sped off, weaving left and right on the motorcycle, drawing the tigers away until she disappeared from sight. Gu Jin then hurriedly chased in the direction she had gone.
When Jiang Li arrived, she had just seen Gu Jin being chased by the tigers. After thinking about it, and remembering that Gu Jin had once saved her, she decided to help.
She hadn’t acted recklessly. While considering how to rescue him, she saw Gu Jin hide inside a narrow gap, which gave her the idea. Only after confirming it would work did she act.
She put her small donkey into her space, then took out a fully fueled motorcycle, which was much faster. She also took out a large piece of fresh pork, rode toward the tigers, and once she was close enough to ensure she had their attention, she threw the meat onto the ground. Then she carried another piece of meat and used it to lure them away in a different direction.
As expected, the tigers were drawn to her. They abandoned the meat on the ground and chased after her instead.
Jiang Li kept riding forward, glancing in the rearview mirror to confirm the tigers were following. She then threw another piece of meat onto the ground, and afterward released two live chickens from her space to further distract them. She glanced somewhat regretfully at the two chickens she had just thrown out, then turned around from another direction.
The live chickens should be able to delay them for a while. As expected, the tigers were drawn to the chickens instead. They also knew the chickens were easier to catch than Jiang Li. After catching and eating the chickens, they could continue chasing her.
The chickens, suddenly appearing outside, were still dazed. But when they saw two tigers rushing at them, they panicked and flapped around wildly. However, they were no match for the tigers and were quickly caught. After eating the chickens, the tigers turned around and continued chasing Jiang Li and the others.
