Сhарtеr 14: Аltering the Plоt, Sеtting a Trаp

Hе Sоng сlutсhеd his shоulder, his fасе finаlly revеaling a look оf fеar.

“Мо Qiаnqiаn, уou—уоu’rе harming yоur tеammаtes! Yunting will never lеt yоu get awaу with this!” Sun Mingхue’s еуes alsо flickered with tеrrоr.Full novel: Apocalypse: I Became the Queen of the Wasteland Through Mechanical Arts — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“If wе’rе talking abоut hаrming tеаmmates, it wаs yоu who plоtted agаinst me first,” Mо Qianqian said with а gеntlе smile, арpearing quitе amiаblе.

Yet neithеr Sun Mingxuе nor Не Sоng darеd to takе the smile оn Мо Qianqian’s face as a sign of friеndlinеss anymore.

“Qiаnqiаn, Qianqian, don’t bе imрulsive. We’re all teammates. It really shouldn’t come to this,” the ever-obliging Li Dong once again began to mediate.

This time, however, while his words were conciliatory, his feet were slowly inching closer to Mo Qianqian.

Clearly, he had the same idea as Sun Mingxue—to snatch Mo Qianqian’s hand crossbow.

The smile on Mo Qianqian’s lips turned cold. In this Wasteland, there was no such thing as a truly good person—people simply turned a blind eye when it didn’t concern them.

Once their own interests were at stake, this Li Dong would likely betray others faster than anyone.

Mo Qianqian pulled the trigger in a swift motion, and the crossbow bolt shot out.

After all, Li Dong was a second-tier speed-type Superpowered Individual. While his combat strength might not be particularly high, he excelled in evasion and escape.

Even while injured, he managed to dodge most of the crossbow bolt aimed at his thigh at high speed.

The bolt barely grazed the edge of his thigh, leaving a small trail of blood where it scraped past, though not much.

It seemed to be just a superficial scratch.

Even so, Li Dong’s expression darkened.

“Mo Qianqian, how can you not tell right from wrong! Why are you attacking me for no reason?” Li Dong angrily questioned.

Mo Qianqian ignored his question. Instead, she reloaded her hand crossbow and aimed it directly at Li Dong’s head.

“Take one more step forward, and I’ll blow your head off,” Mo Qianqian warned with a faint smile.

Li Dong indeed dared not advance any further.

“If you keep attacking us like this, the captain will definitely not let you off lightly!” Li Dong threatened. “Give me your hand crossbow, and I won’t tell the captain about you attacking us.”

Mo Qianqian couldn’t help but laugh out loud. Was this Li Dong trying to treat her like a child?

“Go ahead and tattle if you want. If you keep eyeing my hand crossbow, I’ll blow your head off!”

Li Dong was clearly choked by Mo Qianqian’s words.

Just as he was about to say more, he saw the corpse-transformed mutant dog that had been chasing them break through the cement blocks blocking the alley entrance and charge toward them once again at high speed!

“Mo Qianqian, with a powerful enemy right before us, if you keep attacking indiscriminately without distinguishing friend from foe, I swear I’ll make sure you suffer even if it means mutual destruction!”

After delivering this cold warning, Li Dong called out to Sun Mingxue and He Song, and the three of them turned and fled.

Once again, Mo Qianqian was left at the rear.

This time, however, even as they fled, Li Dong and the other two kept a constant watch on Mo Qianqian’s movements.

They were afraid she might shoot them in the back with a cold arrow.

Behind them, the corpse-transformed mutant dog was in hot pursuit.

Mo Qianqian occasionally turned around to fire a bolt at the mutant dog.

But she didn’t aim for its head.

Instead, she targeted its limbs and joints, intending to slow the mutant dog down.

After all, it was a third-tier Zombified Mutated Beast.

She wasn’t sure if the power of her hand crossbow would be enough to kill the mutant dog instantly with a headshot.

But what if it did?

If she killed this third-tier corpse-transformed mutant dog, how would she continue the act she had planned? She was counting on this corpse-transformed mutant dog to help her break away from the team and go solo.

The four of them quickly fled to the vicinity of a three-way alley intersection.

At the three-way alley, aside from the alley they were currently escaping through, the other two alley entrances were different—one slightly wider and the other extremely narrow.

When Mo Qianqian spotted the narrow alley entrance from a distance, the corners of her mouth slowly curled into a smile.

In the plot, the female lead was tricked and blocked outside the narrow alley, forced to face a third-tier zombified mutated beast alone. That must be the very alley.

Sure enough, Sun Mingxue, He Song, and Li Dong rushed into the extremely narrow alley without a second thought.

Following the plot, Mo Qianqian deliberately didn’t stick too close to them.

By the time she reached the narrow alley entrance, she saw exactly what she expected—a massive concrete slab blocking the entrance.

Among Sun Mingxue, He Song, and Li Dong, He Song was a second-tier strength-type Superpowered Individual.

Even with an injured shoulder, with the strength of a second-tier awakened individual and Li Dong’s help, moving a concrete slab to block the alley entrance was still manageable.

“Mo Qianqian, throw the hand crossbow over the concrete slab, and we’ll move it aside to let you in!” Sun Mingxue’s voice came from behind the slab.

Mo Qianqian knocked on the concrete slab with a faint, mocking smile. “Sure, I’ll throw the hand crossbow over right now. Make sure you catch it—wooden toys aren’t durable. If it falls and breaks, don’t blame me.”

But instead of throwing the hand crossbow as she said, Mo Qianqian pulled out several small bloodstained stones and a few pieces of blood-soaked cloth scraps from the cloth bag behind her.

These were He Song and Li Dong’s blood.

She had secretly collected them during the earlier dispute, precisely for this situation.

She tossed the bloodstained stones beneath the concrete slab.

Then, she used the blood-soaked cloth scraps to smear and wipe the concrete slab.

The scent of blood immediately spread.

Humans might not detect it clearly, but the smell of blood was an irresistible lure for zombies and zombified mutated beasts.

From a distance, Mo Qianqian saw the corpse-transformed mutant dog catching up. She raised her hand and hurled the bloodstained cloth scraps toward it.

Without another moment’s hesitation, she dashed into the other, slightly wider alley.

In the novel’s plot, Sun Mingxue, He Song, Li Dong, and the original host were far more desperate than they were now.

Back then, the original host didn’t have a hand crossbow and couldn’t use crossbow bolts to slow the corpse-transformed mutant dog’s pursuit.

The four of them were chased relentlessly, with Yang Yong and He Song both injured.

In that situation, casualties among the four were inevitable.

When life was on the line, even though the original host was a precious Healing Ability User, she was still sacrificed.

During the next escape, the original host was left behind last.

When they reached the three-way intersection, Sun Mingxue even suggested that He Song block the alley entrance with a concrete slab.

Trapping the female lead outside the alley.

If the female lead fled through the other alley, she could draw the corpse-transformed mutant dog away.

If she couldn’t escape and was eaten by the mutant dog, it would still slow the beast’s pursuit of the other three.

No matter what choice the female lead made, it would buy the three of them more time to escape. In that battle in the plot, although the female lead did not die, she was indeed severely set up by Sun Mingxue.

From now on, she no longer intends to follow the storyline.
