Don’t hate him.
He would keep a proper distance and ask for nothing more than to stay by her side forever.
Pei Xianzhi’s lips were tightly pressed together.
His usually calm expression was also slightly tense as he waited for her judgment.
Tang Tang said calmly, “Bend down.”
His heart stirred. His tall figure bent slightly.
Although he was somewhat confused, he still did as she asked.
Tang Tang reached out and patted his head.
“You did a great job. Really!”
Her clear eyes were filled with sincerity.
If someone deliberately picked a fight with them and they still did nothing, wouldn’t that make them complete pushovers?
In her previous life, she had been too self-centered and had failed to notice how kind Pei Xianzhi had been back then.
He actually felt guilty even when fighting back against others.
Pei Xianzhi reached out and wrapped his arms around her, resting his chin lightly on her thin shoulder.
His chaotic heartbeat gradually calmed.
“Thank you.”
He did not hold her tightly. His arms merely rested loosely around her.
Instead, Tang Tang instinctively wrapped her arms around his waist.
They walked around the small supermarket.
There was not much stock in the warehouse, only some cooking oil, grain, rice, flour, and a few fruits and vegetables grown by the family themselves.
Pei Xianzhi stored everything in his Space Cheat Ability.
The two of them then returned to the house where they were staying.
Zhu Jiawen and Meng Xingyuan had not returned yet.
“Do you think something happened to them?”
Tang Tang worriedly looked toward the door.
“Who are you looking down on?”
Zhu Jiawen suddenly appeared behind her and flicked her smooth forehead.
“Ouch!”
Tang Tang covered her forehead and turned to complain to Pei Xianzhi.
“Look what she did!”
Pei Xianzhi gave Zhu Jiawen a cold glance.
Seeing the red mark on Tang Tang’s forehead, his eyes filled with concern. He gently rubbed it with his slightly rough fingertips.
“It’ll stop hurting soon.”
He casually took out a piece of chocolate and placed it in Tang Tang’s hand.
“Huh? Where did you get chocolate?”
It was her favorite brand of chocolate.
She had already eaten all the chocolate Pei Xianzhi had brought back yesterday.
Tang Tang unwrapped it and put it into her mouth.
The chocolate had not melted at all. Even the filling inside was still cold.
“I found it in the small supermarket.”
Tang Tang narrowed her eyes happily from the sweetness and did not think much of it.
She only thought that this little supermarket was surprisingly well stocked.
Meng Xingyuan finished checking the doors and windows.
“I dismantled some solar panels and equipment from a farmhouse. I’ll put them together when I have some free time.”
Tang Tang nodded.
“Although we still have electricity and running water now, they’ll probably be cut off in a few days.”
Zhu Jiawen asked, “Should we store some water in Pei Xianzhi’s Space Cheat Ability first?”
“No.”
Tang Tang answered instinctively.
Zhu Jiawen looked confused.
“Why not?”
“Ah, because… because we found lots of water in the small supermarket.”
Pei Xianzhi naturally did not expose her.
“Mm.”
Tang Tang grabbed Zhu Jiawen’s arm.
“Come on. Let’s go clean the rooms.”
“No need. Leave it. I’ll do it later.”
Pei Xianzhi spoke to Tang Tang and pointed toward the sofa with a cushion on it.
“Go sit there first. I’ll make dinner.”
Tang Tang obediently sat on the sofa.
“So you know how to cook.”
With his back facing her, Pei Xianzhi spoke gently.
“I’ve always lived alone, so I taught myself.”
Zhu Jiawen rolled her eyes.
She could not stand watching the two of them act so affectionate. With a cold snort, she turned around and went upstairs.
Meng Xingyuan followed her upstairs.
“Do you think that grandpa will come after us?”
Tang Tang moved closer to Pei Xianzhi and curiously watched him cook.
“Leave it to me.”
Pei Xianzhi dried his hands and pushed the mischievous girl out of the kitchen.
“Don’t come in. You might get splashed.”
Tang Tang pouted and gave a soft snort.
“I’m just looking. I want to learn.”
Pei Xianzhi chuckled.
“You don’t need to learn. I’ll cook for you.”
A smile curved across Tang Tang’s lips. She deliberately teased him.
“You’re that nice to me? Then how should I repay you?”
Pei Xianzhi blew on the meat on his spoon to cool it before holding it to her lips.
“Eat a little more. That’s how you can repay me.”
The night was unexpectedly less peaceful than the day.
The zombies, which had remained quiet all day, became active again and wandered around the village in small groups.
Only their house and the grandpa’s house nearby had their lights on.
Tang Tang walked into the room while drying her hair.
Pei Xianzhi had his back to her and was staring intently at a certain spot outside the window.
“Are you done washing?”
He noticed Tang Tang immediately.
After her shower, she looked like a little wet creature.
Her entire body gave off a soft, pleasant fragrance.
Pei Xianzhi’s tense nerves only relaxed slightly when he was beside her.
“What are you looking at?”
Pei Xianzhi took the towel from her hands and helped dry her slightly damp hair.
“Nothing.”
A piercing ringing suddenly came from downstairs.
Tang Tang widened her eyes like a startled kitten and looked at him innocently.
Pei Xianzhi patted her head.
“Don’t be scared. Let’s go take a look together.”
Outside the courtyard, many wires had been set up with various bells hanging from them. They looked like the rings taken off children’s hair ties.
The grandpa was currently tangled in the wires, with the bells jingling loudly.
The noise quickly attracted the zombies.
The grandpa shouted, “Quick, someone save me!”
Inside the house, Meng Xingyuan snorted coldly.
“I knew he was up to no good.”
“How did you think of making a security device?”
Zhu Jiawen leaned behind him and asked.
Meng Xingyuan smiled at her, his eyes curving into crescents as he pulled her into his arms.
“I’m the top science student in Jing City. Who could possibly be smarter than me?”
Zhu Jiawen laughed.
“Look at you.”
The grandpa finally managed to break free from the wires and hurried back toward his house.
Diesel spilled all over the ground as he ran, cursing under his breath.
“You damn little brats. I’ll kill you sooner or later.”
The grandpa desperately made it to his front door before the zombies caught up.
But the door to his house was locked.
“Erniu, get your ass over here and open the door!”
The soundproofing in rural houses was not very good.
The group could hear the conversation clearly from across the way.
A weak voice came from inside the house.
“No, I can’t. I’m scared of that man-eating thing.”
The grandpa looked at the zombies getting closer behind him and frantically began pounding on the door.
“Erniu, open the door!”
But no matter how hard the grandpa banged on the door, his son stayed behind it and refused to open it.
Listening to the grandpa’s screams, Tang Tang sighed.
“Come to think of it, this old man is actually quite pitiful. He spent his whole life for his son, only to end up being killed by him.”
A warm palm covered her eyes.
Her thick eyelashes brushed against his palm like tiny brushes.
Pei Xianzhi said softly, “Don’t look.”
“It’s time to sleep.”
Tang Tang sat on the bed and watched him seriously make his bed on the floor.
“You really won’t sleep with me? The floor is hard.”
Pei Xianzhi’s gaze was deep as he looked at Tang Tang gently.
“It’s fine. I’m used to it.”
Tang Tang felt a little shy under his gaze.
A faint rose color spread across her fair cheeks.
She immediately burrowed under the blanket and muttered in a muffled voice.
“Suit yourself.”
“Bang!”
“Bang!”
“Bang!”
Tang Tang poked her head out.
Her fluffy, wispy hair clung to her cheeks.
“What happened?”
Pei Xianzhi reached out and smoothed her hair.
“I’ll go take a look.”
He strode toward the balcony.
Outside the courtyard gate, the grandpa, who had already turned into a zombie, was repeatedly slamming himself against their gate.
“This grandpa really is…”
Tang Tang also came to the balcony. Looking at the scene before her, she sighed.
“Absolutely unbelievable.”
The grandpa zombie spotted them and seemed to have been consumed by his resentment.
He slammed into the gate with even greater force.
At the same time, he called over the other zombies to help him break through the gate.
The courtyard gate was sturdy and firmly built.
But if they kept slamming into it like this, no one would get a good night’s sleep.
