“Pretty smart.”

Brother Hu gave Song Yu an appreciative look and praised her.

Once the system’s quest dropped, the three of them were suddenly of one mind and lost any desire to stay in the hospital to continue searching.Full novel: Apocalypse Survival Game? I Became a Big Shot by Picking Up Trash — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

If they wanted medical supplies, didn’t the quest rewards provide them?

The reward for one person might not be enough, but the rewards for three people pooled together would definitely suffice.

“You, get to the very front!”

Brother Hu glared fiercely at the skinny monkey-like man. Although the skinny man was reluctant, all the weapons were in Brother Hu’s hands, so he had no choice.

The ward building where the three of them were located wasn’t far from the main entrance, and the open area outside didn’t have many zombies. Escaping the hospital through the main gate was the optimal strategy.

The three of them walked toward the stairwell, with the skinny man in the lead, Song Yu in the middle, and Brother Hu bringing up the rear.

Song Yu walked quietly while using the windows to observe the layout. They were currently on the third floor of the hospital. The floor wasn’t high, which could be considered good news.

Walking to the stair landing, they could clearly see several zombies wandering around the second-floor hallway.

Players had panels, and naturally, zombies had panels too.

Not a single one of those zombies had a health pool lower than 100.

Song Yu didn’t look back, but she cast a sidelong glance out of the corner of her eye at Brother Hu behind her.

The cross-bow arrows in his hand numbered only 7.

Assuming a single arrow could knock off 30 points of health, it could kill at most 2 zombies.

Moreover, the skinny man ahead of her seemed restless and eager to pull something.

Song Yu hadn’t forgotten that the skinny man’s talent was the speed-boosting Sprint Athlete, and Brother Hu hadn’t forgotten either.

“These zombies move very slowly. It shouldn’t be too hard for the three of us to deal with them,” Song Yu said softly.

It certainly wasn’t difficult, provided the three of them worked together and took certain risks.

However, the three of them… were a complete mess of loose sand.

Brother Hu pursed his lips and directly delivered a kick straight into the skinny man’s back!

Compared to the skinny man as a potential hazard, Song Yu was much easier to control.

Between the two males present, naturally, the male would be dealt with first.

The skinny man stumbled from the kick and tumbled straight down the stairs!

Instantly, all the nearby zombies were drawn over!

Brother Hu was truly sacrificing others for his own benefit.

“Run!”

Brother Hu called out to Song Yu and, taking advantage of the fact that all those zombies were attracted by the skinny man, bolted quickly down the stairs.

Song Yu closely followed behind him, her heart sinking to the bottom.

In the daytime, zombies moved very slowly and lacked strong attack power. Coupled with his talent, even after being grabbed twice by zombies, the skinny man managed to scramble out of the zombies’ encirclement ring!

Brother Hu had a crossbow and a dagger on him, so the skinny man didn’t dare run ahead of him. As the only female, Song Yu naturally became the targeted one.

While running for her life in a frenzy, Song Yu was suddenly yanked backward from behind and slammed heavily onto the ground!

At this point, Song Yu couldn’t afford to care about anything else. She quickly scrambled up from the ground, ignored the wound on her knee, and picked up her pace!

Because of the skinny man’s stunt, all the zombies in front of the building had been drawn over!

Densely packed zombies closely pursued right behind Song Yu and the others.

Realizing that such a huge number of zombies were following them, Brother Hu’s expression darkened, and without a moment’s hesitation, he aimed his crossbow directly at Song Yu in the rear!

He wanted to use Song Yu as a sacrifice to buy himself time to escape—though he would have preferred to kill the skinny man first, well… who told Song Yu to lack the strength to protect herself?

Song Yu had been keeping an eye on the movements of the two men in front, so Brother Hu’s move was completely within her expectations.

The moment Brother Hu turned around, Song Yu veered off to take a turn and fled in another direction, falling a step further behind them and closing the distance between herself and the zombies.

Brother Hu’s arrow missed completely, filling his heart with hatred toward Song Yu!

By this time, there was no longer time for him to fire a second arrow.

The zombies split into two waves: one wave followed Song Yu, while the other followed Brother Hu and the skinny man.

When it came to speed, Brother Hu was no match for the skinny man.

Song Yu ran for her life with all her might around the corner, sprinting at practically the fastest speed of her entire life.

She wasn’t running blindly without a destination; a row of trees and a perimeter wall quickly came into view ahead of her.

Song Yu lunged forward fiercely, jumped swiftly onto a tree, climbed up to the perimeter wall from the branches, and flipped over the side!

She landed smoothly and steadily.

Escaping the zombie encirclement via the perimeter wall, Song Yu had no time to rest. Following alongside the wall, she stealthily made her way back to the hospital’s front entrance.

The hospital entrance was deserted, the iron gates locked tightly. Brother Hu and the skinny man still hadn’t managed to escape the hospital.

Without Song Yu, and with an army of zombies trailing behind them, the two men naturally wanted to use each other as cannon fodder.

And the consequence of doing that was mutual destruction.

Hiding inside the guard room, Song Yu quietly observed the situation inside. The roars of the zombies grew closer and closer as she spotted the injured Brother Hu and skinny man.

She held her breath, concealing her figure completely.

Having fled to the gate, the skinny man relied on his slender, scrawny frame to squeeze his way out through the gap in the gates, grabbing a stone from the ground!

Brother Hu followed closely behind. He didn’t have the skinny man’s build, nor did he have the keys, so he had no choice but to climb over the gate.

The moment he hit the ground, Brother Hu was attacked by the skinny man!

The two immediately locked into a fierce brawl. Hiding in the guard room, Song Yu gripped the dagger in her hand tightly.

Between the skinny man and Brother Hu, Brother Hu ultimately proved superior; his stamina and health pools were higher than Song Yu and the skinny man’s combined!

However, the skinny man fought to the death, and Brother Hu suffered quite a few injuries as well, which was obvious from his labored breathing.

Now is the time!

Song Yu burst into action, rushing out of the guard room as the dagger in her hand viciously stabbed straight into Brother Hu’s carotid artery!

In an instant, blood gushed out like a torrent.

The zombies inside the gates slammed excitedly against the heavy doors, causing them to wobble precariously.

Brother Hu turned around in disbelief, unsure whether he was shocked that Song Yu was still alive or that she actually had the audacity to make a move against him.

None of that mattered anymore.

He crashed heavily to the ground. Song Yu wore a blank expression, completely devoid of the reaction one should have after just killing a living human being.

She squatted down, quickly gathering the floating cards, small bundles, crossbow, and arrows left behind by Brother Hu and the skinny man, then turned and ran.

That rusted old gate wouldn’t hold out for much longer.

Sure enough, shortly after Song Yu left, the gates collapsed with a loud crash, and the zombies originally locked inside the hospital were completely unleashed!

They greedily and frantically devoured the corpses on the ground, and the plump bodies were quickly reduced to bare white skeletons.

By this time, Song Yu had already successfully hidden herself inside a residential house near the hospital.

Sitting on the floor of the room, she took deep, heavy breaths, working hard to calm her violently pounding heart as she pulled out the loot from the two players.
