Yuna Bishop and Noir, having already fled a good distance, heard the faint roars of zombies mixed with the screams of humans.
They couldn’t help but feel a pang of sympathy.
Yuna was also stained with the blood of those players.
A small horde of zombies latched onto their trail, refusing to let go and completely blocking the path behind them.
If they dared to look back, they would immediately see the hideous, twisted zombies at their heels!
The most terrifying part was the dramatic increase in Tier 3 and Tier 4 Zombies at night.
These were nothing like Low Tier Zombies.
Most possessed inhuman traits and attributes, and they moved in packs.
Typically, a single zombie of Tier 4 or higher would command a horde of around a hundred of its low-tier brethren.
Yuna and Noir were now being chased by over a hundred zombies.
The girl and her dog ran with incredible speed!
In the enclosed tunnel, the beam of their flashlight bobbed unsteadily.
The two of them soon reached a sewer entrance.
Yuna crouched down, and Noir immediately stood on its hind legs to clamber onto her back.
There was no way Noir could climb the access ladder by itself; Yuna had to carry him.
Despite her seemingly frail appearance, Yuna was actually quite strong.
Back when Noir had canine distemper, they couldn’t find a car late at night.
It was Yuna and her grandmother who had carried him, step by painful step, into the city to see a vet.
The silly dog had thought he was going to die; he’d even dug a hole and laid down in it.
Yuna and her grandmother had insisted on paying for his treatment, forcing them to scrimp and save for over half a year.
Back then, Yuna and her grandmother had saved Noir.
Now, it was up to Yuna and Noir to save her grandmother.
Feeling the heavy weight on her back, Yuna gritted her teeth and scrambled upward!
The iron ladder was long since rusted and decayed, struggling to bear their combined weight.
Suddenly, a rung under Yuna’s foot snapped!
The sharp, broken edge gashed her ankle, and blood immediately welled up.
Yet she carried on as if nothing had happened, maintaining her pace.
“WHINE—”
Noir gently nudged Yuna’s ear, letting out a sympathetic whimper.
“I’m fine.”
Though Yuna was the one who was hurt, she was still comforting Noir.
The roars of the zombies behind them grew closer, but neither Yuna nor Noir ever looked back.
The scraping of claws on the metal ladder grew louder from below.
Yuna scrambled up the last few rungs, and Noir, bracing himself on her back, pushed up the heavy manhole cover with his head.
He leaped out of the sewer first, onto a street swarming with zombies.
He immediately took off, sprinting in the direction with the fewest of them and luring the entire street’s horde away!
Yuna didn’t immediately climb out.
The zombies below were scaling the ladder with terrifying speed.
Her heart hammered in her chest, but she suppressed her fear and waited patiently.
Only when the commotion above died down did Yuna leap out onto the street and slam the manhole cover back in place.
The heavy lid crushed the arm of the zombie right behind her.
Ignoring the terrifying gaze of red eyes staring up from the holes in the manhole cover, Yuna calmly stepped over it and quickly sought shelter.
She didn’t go looking for Noir.
She knew that once it was safe, he would find his own way back to her.
Zombies were always more active at night.
Before Yuna could even get inside a building, one lunged at her.
Fortunately, Yuna was prepared.
She raised her hand and fired her Nail Gun a few times.
The zombie instantly vanished in a flash of light.
Yuna quickly slipped into a nearby house and began washing the bloodstains off her body.
It took a full ten bottles of mineral water to get all the blood off.
Yuna then changed into a fresh set of clothes and used a roll of bandages to restore her Blood Volume.
The clothes didn’t fit well, but she had no other choice.
Yuna didn’t let the bloody water go to waste, packing it all up to take with her.
Blood was an irresistible lure for zombies, even more effective than a live human.
Even though the blood was diluted with mineral water, it should still have some effect.
While checking her Blood Volume, Yuna discovered she had a new negative Buff.
[Tetanus Warning: Report to Dr.
June Hamilton for a vaccine within 24 hours.
Otherwise, you will be responsible for the consequences.]
“…”
‘This is not good news,’ Yuna thought, feeling a headache coming on.
But she didn’t complain or curse.
When a problem arose, you solved it.
Negative emotions weren’t going to fix anything.
She immediately pulled out her map, using the moonlight to find the area where this Dr.
Hamilton was active.
‘It’s pretty far.’
‘If I travel without stopping, I should be able to reach her zone of activity within 24 hours.’
It wouldn’t slow her down.
Yuna didn’t stay idle while waiting for Noir.
She quickly searched the room for supplies, gathering everything that could possibly be useful.
She would take it all with her once Noir returned.
Bottles, buckets, wooden cabinets, plastic wrap—Yuna didn’t pass up a single thing.
‘You never know when this stuff might come in handy.’
Before, due to her limited Backpack Grids, Yuna couldn’t carry much.
Now that she had Noir’s inventory space, she had to take full advantage of it.
Sylas could expand Noir’s inventory.
After exchanging for Eternal Companion and the Animal Awakening Potion, Yuna planned to use any leftover affinity points for the expansion.
After gathering the supplies from the room, Yuna checked the legacy and Talents left behind by the players.
‘These two players were dirt poor.
Each of them only had a single Backpack Grid!’
And inside the grids were just compressed biscuits and instant noodles.
Yuna had just gotten rid of that exact junk, and now it was back to haunt her.
She was beyond exasperated.
“…”
‘Whatever.
I’ll just look at the Talents.’
Compared to their disappointing legacy, the two players’ Talents were slightly more impressive.
[Talent·Three Hands LV1 (0/50): Allows the user to randomly steal any one item from a living creature.
Success Rate: 5%.
Each successful theft grants 1 Experience Point.
May be attempted 3 times per day.]
[Talent·Street Gangster Lv1 (0/50): Damage from bladed weapons is increased by 5%.]
These two Talents were exceptionally good!
Especially Three Hands!
This Talent was unique; its description even listed the probability of stealing each type of resource.
That included Backpack Grids, though the probability of stealing one was extremely low.
Of course, the Talent had a drawback.
On a failure, there was a high probability that the target would be alerted.
If the theft was discovered, you could imagine the fate that awaited the thief.
But for Yuna and Noir, this Talent was a godsend!
Yuna and Noir were both considered players, meaning they could grind the Talent Level!
Once they ground the level high enough and the success rate increased, they could expand their range of targets.
For example, NPCs.
Or even…
High Tier Zombies!
