‘The game…
isn’t going to just take Noir’s reward money, is it?’
Yuna Bishop’s expression was a little strange, but she quickly dismissed the thought.
‘It shouldn’t be that shameless.’
Including Noir’s reward, Yuna Bishop’s earnings from this game had already reached nearly two million.
This sum was almost enough for her grandmother’s surgery and subsequent treatment fees.
From now on, she and Noir just needed to do their best to lie low and survive.
Having completed the side quest, Yuna Bishop quickly browsed through the remaining goods Sue Carter had to offer.
First were the Backpack Grids.
One Tier 4 Blood could be exchanged for one grid, and a total of ten could be redeemed.
Yuna Bishop redeemed all of them.
Not only that, but Yuna Bishop also exploited a little bug and redeemed Noir’s share as well.
As a result, Yuna Bishop’s Backpack Grids shot up to 25!
After these exchanges, Yuna Bishop still had 10 vials of Tier 4 Blood, 10 vials of Tier 3 Blood, 14 vials of Tier 2 Blood, and 5 vials of Tier 1 Blood.
However, just like with the Backpack Grids, after a certain quota of any supply was exchanged, the price would begin to increase.
For example, the exchange requirement for Crossbow bolts and Nail Gun nails started to double after every 100 units.
Exploiting the bug with Noir again, Yuna Bishop redeemed 733 bolts and 800 nails.
Sue Carter also had guns available for trade, but they were very expensive.
A single Military Handgun (+50 Attack Damage) cost 10 vials of Tier 4 Blood and came with an initial 3 bullets.
Furthermore, Sue Carter only had a total of three types of firearms available for trade, one of each.
Yuna Bishop hesitated for a moment but decided to trade for the handgun anyway.
It was a deterrent against other players.
The difference between having a gun and not having one was huge.
A single shot would probably kill over ninety percent of players.
With her weapons fully stocked, Yuna Bishop turned her attention to defensive gear.
An assault jacket, similar to the one Sue Carter was wearing, came with 4 points of Defense and a Cold Resistance effect.
The exchange price was 3 vials of Tier 3 Blood.
Yuna Bishop got one for herself and also exchanged for a police dog vest that Noir could wear, which cost the same.
With the remaining blood, Yuna Bishop stockpiled 400 bottles of mineral water, 40 portions of a standard nutritional meal (+50 Satiety) worth 1 vial of Tier 2 Blood each, 17 rolls of Disinfectant Bandages, and 7 matches.
Once again exploiting the bug with Noir, Yuna Bishop spent all the Mutated Blood she had.
She stored a portion of the supplies in Noir’s space, so if they got separated, Noir wouldn’t starve, die of thirst, or perish from illness.
Yuna Bishop’s massive exchange nearly cleaned out Sue Carter’s entire stock of mineral water; the trade list showed a pitiful 31 bottles left.
Fortunately, the trade items refreshed daily.
After mooching a free lunch at Sue Carter’s camp with Noir, she prepared to set off for The Old District.
Yuna Bishop was very curious about the reward from The Watcher Organization.
Moreover, Sue Carter had also given Yuna Bishop a lead concerning Noir.
“A Beast Tamer recently arrived in the New District.
Maybe he can solve your problem.”
She set off on her bicycle.
Not long after leaving the camp, Noir alerted Yuna Bishop that someone was following them.
Yuna Bishop hadn’t sensed a thing.
‘These people probably saw me trade for so many supplies at Sue Carter’s place and want to rob me.’
Yuna Bishop didn’t care.
She’d kill as many as came, which was a perfect opportunity for her to unlock new Talents.
However, the players never showed themselves, not even by the time Yuna Bishop returned to her temporary shelter.
‘These players are very cautious, too.’
Yuna Bishop packed up everything in the house—bedsheets, quilts, pillows, firewood, the barbecue grill, and so on—and took it all with her.
The Old District and the New District were far from her current location on the city’s edge.
With the entire city now overrun by zombies, there was no way Yuna Bishop could reach The Old District in a single day.
She had to find a new shelter.
Fortunately, with Noir by her side, her standards for a shelter weren’t as high anymore.
If any danger appeared at night, she would know immediately.
Yuna Bishop opened her map again to plan her route.
Once night fell, the zombies throughout the city would respawn, possibly in even greater numbers.
“…”
Yuna Bishop’s movements suddenly froze.
It seemed she had discovered another new problem.
‘Forget it.
I’ll focus on solving the side quest first.’
The entire journey to The Old District would take two days.
She needed to reach Skyriver Commons before dark.
Yuna Bishop didn’t hesitate.
She grabbed her dog, hopped on her bicycle, and set off immediately.
There were a great many zombies on the road, which was likely part of the reason players didn’t have time to attack each other.
Yuna Bishop carefully avoided these zombies.
Unlike the village, the buildings in the urban area hid large numbers of zombies, making it extremely dangerous.
On the way to Skyriver Commons, Noir discovered a horde of zombies laying siege to a house.
At first, Yuna Bishop wasn’t sure if the people inside were NPCs or players, but as soon as they spotted her, they immediately started shouting, trying to draw the zombies’ attention toward her. This chapter was taken from novelping.com without permission.
‘So malicious.
They’re definitely players.’
Yuna Bishop rolled her eyes, complaining silently.
Fortunately, the main horde of zombies wasn’t drawn over.
Now that she was entering the urban area, Yuna Bishop could no longer ride her bicycle.
‘It makes me too big of a target.’
With a small group of stray zombies in tow, Yuna Bishop and Noir ducked into an alley.
The two zombies wandering in the alley were quickly killed by the Nail Gun in Yuna Bishop’s hands.
Noir dashed forward, snatched up the dropped Mutated Blood, and stored it in its treasure cave.
The human and dog duo worked together with perfect coordination.
The zombies behind them now blocked their escape from the alley, but this was hardly a challenge for Yuna Bishop.
In a few quick steps, she used a trash can by the wall to climb onto the retaining wall.
Noir also used the trash can, and Yuna Bishop pulled it up onto the wall.
Ever since obtaining those two Talents, Yuna Bishop felt her physical fitness had improved significantly.
The effects were tangible.
Yuna Bishop had been a sickly child who was always on medication, but now, despite doing so much every day, she didn’t feel the slightest bit of fatigue.
It was truly magical.
The zombies roared as they poured into the alley, only to fall one after another.
Yuna Bishop continuously drew, aimed, and fired her Crossbow.
Most of her bolts hit the zombies in the head, and she could one-shot kill a Tier 1 Zombie.
Unfortunately, very little Mutated Blood dropped, not even enough to trade for a single compressed biscuit.
After killing the entire group of zombies, Yuna Bishop took out her map to check it again.
She was almost at Skyriver Commons.
The sky was getting dark.
After a moment of thought, Yuna Bishop decided to spend the night here.
Conveniently, one side of the alley was an old apartment building.
Yuna Bishop opened a window and jumped inside with Noir.
The hallway was pitch-black.
The last rays of the sunset were about to disappear.
Alerted by Noir, Yuna Bishop quickly finished off all the zombies in the hallway, fighting her way up to the rooftop.
On the rooftop of the twelve-story apartment building, Yuna Bishop witnessed a sight she would never forget for the rest of her life.
