“Xie Yubai, do you regret it?”

Xie Yubai vaguely understood what she meant. He didn’t turn around, not even bothering to lift his eyelids.

Even if this world were to be destroyed.

Just like playing chess—once a move is made, there is no turning back.

“I understand what you mean.” Cen Xi released her clenched hand and forced a smile. “Wait for me in the living room for a while. I have something to give you.”

Actually, there was something she hadn’t mentioned.

Not only was Xie Yubai losing his memories, but hers were fading too.

Unlike Xie Yubai’s, her memories weren’t disappearing bit by bit. Instead, they were all becoming distant and blurry.

While talking to Xie Yubai earlier, her mind was in chaos. She had even forgotten the words that person once said: “If possible, let him… live.”

If she didn’t give him that letter soon, she was afraid she would forget it completely.

Her expression couldn’t hide the sorrow.

An untimely thought crossed her mind: The end of life is not death; being forgotten is.

She didn’t dare to think, nor was she willing to imagine—if both she and Xie Yubai forgot Shen Suian, who would remember her then?

Like a shooting star, people only care about it when it’s visible. Once it falls, no one pays attention.

Watching her retreating figure, Xie Yubai licked his dry lips. A bold conjecture made his heart race wildly.

Without further delay, he strode toward the living room.

Upon closer inspection, his steps were far more hurried than usual.

After he left, Cheng Yuan’s tense nerves finally relaxed. Her legs went weak, and she nearly collapsed to the floor, but Liang Yicheng caught her in time.

“Thanks, Chengzi.” She cast a grateful look at Liang Yicheng.

Liang Yicheng waved her hand dismissively, then patted her chest. “Oh my, the boss is terrifying. His cold, imposing aura made it hard for me to breathe.”

Song Yuanxing recalled that sinister, life-indifferent gaze, and his little heart trembled uncontrollably. “Poking the tiger’s head is too risky. I won’t dare do it again.”

Surprisingly, Sheng Tianming didn’t retort.

Feng Jingchen pushed his gold-rimmed glasses up with his left index finger, his eyes inscrutable. “You’re not usually this impulsive. So, what was today’s act all about?”

“I just didn’t want him to stay like this.” Fu Nanchuan thought of Xie Yubai’s attitude and paused. “But the result was as I expected.”

He wasn’t surprised, just a little regretful.

Feng Jingchen sighed. “Let it be.”

Fu Nanchuan nodded and said nothing more.

Sheng Tianming spoke up at the right moment. “Should we go over now?”

“That’s up to you.” With those words, Fu Nanchuan strode ahead and followed.

Don’t ask—it was simply curiosity.

At this point, Feng Jingchen naturally wouldn’t miss out.

Liang Yicheng, both fearful and curious, urged, “How about we all go together?”

Cheng Yuan was the first to shake her head. “You go ahead. I won’t. I’m going back to my room to rest.”

No way.

Now, whenever she saw Xie Yubai, she remembered that scene, and even her soul trembled.

Song Yuanxing swallowed hard. In the end, curiosity overpowered fear. He slapped his thigh and gritted his teeth. “Let’s go!”

Since they were already courting death, one more time wouldn’t make much difference.

**

Living Room.

Xie Yubai rested his chin on the back of his hand, eyelids drooping. His other hand lay on the table, his index finger tapping rhythmically against the surface, producing a dull sound.

A deathly silence spread throughout the living room.

Liang Yicheng suddenly regretted it.

She shouldn’t have been curious, shouldn’t have sat here.

Just as her thoughts drifted, the living room fell silent again, followed by the sound of footsteps.

Xie Yubai lifted his eyelids and immediately noticed the letter in Cen Xi’s hand. His narrow eyes gathered specks of light, his breathing slightly erratic, his palms growing damp.

Cen Xi handed the letter to him.

The envelope was simple, with no name on the cover, but everyone clearly saw the man, who usually showed no emotion, trembling as he held the letter.

“This was found in my room on November 1st, along with a note,” Cen Xi said, pulling a long note from his pocket.

“Give it to Xiao Bai when he can’t hold on any longer.”

The handwriting was elegant and clean, the kind only Shen Suian could write.

He could see nothing else, trembling as he opened the letter.

“Dear Little Bai,

When you read this letter, Suisui is very unhappy <(`^′)>

But compared to me, you seem even more unhappy.

You said you were happy every day, but you lied.

And I broke my promise.

So let’s call it even, okay?

Little Bai, I was actually very happy because you appeared in my life. Since I was little, there was always a fool who would risk his life to protect me. Even if he got beaten up, covered in wounds, he would still come crying in front of me, seeking my attention and stirring my worry.

And the truth is, he succeeded.

A long time ago, that fool entered my heart and became irreplaceable. Even when you tricked me into getting the marriage certificate, I had known about it long before. Did you really think I was so clueless?

Suisui really, really likes Little Bai so much!

Ah, I’m getting carried away again. I didn’t mean to write all this.

Alright, back to the point. The reason I wrote this is to help you let go of the past.

Do you remember what I said?

'Think more about yourself, don’t sacrifice everything for one person, learn to adapt.'

Little Bai, live your life well. Laugh loudly when you’re happy, cry loudly when you’re sad.

Be free, be bold, be yourself!

You shouldn’t let anyone hold you back. After all, you’re Officer Xie.

Finally, I wish Little Bai peace, smooth sailing, health, and happiness.

—Suisui"

Xie Yubai stared at the page with its few words, his eyes gradually reddening, his vision blurring.

Countless images flooded his mind.

In those images, the girl stood with her hands clasped behind her back. As she turned, her tea-colored eyes reflected his figure, her beautiful eyes seeming to hold the entire starry sky.

Her delicate brows curved as she smiled: "Little Bai, be happy."

He tried to chase after her, but before he could reach her, she vanished, leaving only his hand outstretched in mid-air.

His heart ached with a dense, piercing pain.

So she had known all along…

She knew…
