Shen Suian inexplicably recalled that dream. Her raven-feather-like long lashes fluttered slightly, and as she lifted her eyelids, a brilliant smile spread across her palm-sized face. “Isn’t this what we agreed on before? I haven’t forgotten.”

Xie Yubai breathed a sigh of relief and began analyzing with Shen Suian.

Second: Prepare supplies in advance.

Third: Investigate…】

Investigate what?

Shen Suian paused and didn’t continue writing.

Investigate why this world became like this?

But what did that have to do with her?

Shouldn’t her own safety be her top priority right now?

Based on how things unfolded in the dream, forget investigating—she probably wouldn’t even survive until the Apocalypse arrived.

If she lost her life, what was the point of investigating so much? Could it change her fate or the fate of this world?

Since neither was possible, she might as well focus more on herself.

“Leave the task of gathering supplies to me. Don’t worry about that,” Xie Yubai said, his eyes swirling with dark intensity, his voice low and serious. “The most important thing right now is to avoid that car accident…”

This matter was both easy and difficult to resolve.

The timing was uncertain.

She couldn’t just stay at home all the time because something bad might happen on some future day, could she?

That was highly impractical.

“I’ll be careful,” Shen Suian wasn’t foolish. The key to this matter likely depended on her. She took the man’s hand, her lips curving into a smile. “Little Bai, trust me.”

Hearing the familiar address, Xie Yubai’s eyes sparkled with fragmented light. He reached out, pulling her into his embrace, resting his chin against the crook of her neck. He nuzzled her, both dependent and coquettish, his voice sticky and seductive with a lingering tone: “Baby, you have to remember that no matter what, you are the most important.”

Shen Suian’s fingertips gently stroked the man’s soft hair, one stroke after another, her voice tender and melodious: “Alright, I still have to accompany Little Bai to live a long and healthy life.”

Xie Yubai didn’t say anything more, but his captivating fox-like eyes grew even brighter, shimmering with an indescribable tenderness and overflowing affection.

The two lingered affectionately for a while longer before both began making preparations.

In the afternoon, Shen Suian received a call from her supervisor about an urgent research report that required her to rush to the lab for an experiment.

After hearing this, Xie Yubai straightforwardly said, “I’ll take you there.”

Knowing he was worried, Shen Suian didn’t refuse.

She had started university early, majoring in clinical medicine under a “5+3” program. As for graduation… well, it seemed a distant prospect.

Xie Yubai dropped her off at the entrance of the lab building, anxiously adding a few more reminders: “Call me if anything happens. Let me know when you’re done, and I’ll come pick you up.”

“Little Bai, you’ve become so talkative,” Shen Suian curved her eyes, teasing him. “How did an illusory dream scare you like this? I’m fine, aren’t I? Don’t worry.”

Though she said this, she herself hadn’t let her guard down at all.

She had a premonition that the disaster before the Apocalypse was targeting her.

Only her.

She wasn’t sure if that counted as good news.

Xie Yubai bent down, kissing the corner of her lips, then helplessly pinched her cheek, changing the subject: “Go on up.”

Shen Suian nodded, waved at him, and entered the lab building.

Xie Yubai stood under a tree, watching until her figure disappeared from sight. Only then did he withdraw his gaze, take out his phone, and dial a number. He began giving instructions as he left the university.

**

The last rays of the sun sank below the horizon, the orange-red hues at the edge of the sky gradually fading. A slender crescent moon hung in the night sky, the deep blue-black darkness thick like a moving canvas, slowly swallowing the lingering crimson until it vanished completely.

Shen Suian emerged from the laboratory; it was already nine in the evening.

She stretched and stood waiting at the school gate.

Footsteps approached from behind, the figure hidden in the darkness, reaching out as if to touch the girl’s slender shoulder…

A cold glint flashed in Shen Suian’s eyes. She swiftly grabbed the person’s hand, twisted it, and a cry of pain immediately followed. Just as she prepared to execute a shoulder throw, the person hurriedly spoke, voice trembling, “Hey, hey, Senior Shen, it’s me, it’s…”

“Thud—”

“Hiss—”

As the person’s back made intimate contact with the ground, dust flew in all directions.

Shen Suian took a step back with slight disdain, avoiding any dirt that might land on her.

Under the faint light, the newcomer gradually came into her view. With a half-smile, she pulled a tissue from her pocket, wiped her hands, and lazily lifted her eyelids, her posture relaxed and casual. “Oh, it’s you, junior. My apologies, I thought you were a bad person.”

Though her words sounded apologetic, there was no trace of sincerity in her tone.

The young man on the ground pushed himself up, stood awkwardly, dusted off his clothes, and rotated his arm. Instead of showing any anger, his eyes sparkled with admiration. “Senior, you really know how to do that! You’re amazing!”

That person really hadn’t lied to him!

Shen Suian raised the corner of her eye, lazily glancing at him. His attitude and reaction surprised her somewhat, though she showed no sign of it on her face. “Explain. What are you doing here in the middle of the night, standing around like a nuisance?”

“Don’t tell me you were trying to ambush me?”

The young man hurriedly waved his hands, his face flushing red with urgency. “No, no, senior, don’t misunderstand.”

He scratched his head, looking somewhat shy. “Actually, I didn’t believe it, so I came to test it out.”

“Test?” Shen Suian raised a single eyebrow. “Test what?”

“I was entrusted by someone. I’m here to remind you of something: On November 1st, do not go out unless necessary. If you must, avoid sunlight. He also said this message is from Little Bai.”
