In the next instant, gunshots rang out, and several bullets flew over, but they had no effect on the car whatsoever.
“Damn it…” Zhang Zhiming’s face twisted with rage, and he kicked the person beside him to the ground. “How the hell did you people surround them? You just let them escape like that?”
“Boss, Da Yong and the others are gone—he probably escaped through where they were stationed. That guy is way too uncanny.” Fear flickered in Wang Li’s eyes.
Through the rearview mirror, Yan Tingting watched the furious group, the corners of her mouth curling up. She tapped the steering wheel lazily with her slender fingers—she had no intention of playing along with them any longer.
“Ding! Death Countdown removed. Host, you’re simply amazing!!!” The System rolled around excitedly in Yan Tingting’s mind.
It had never expected that this spoiled, pampered young lady had such skills. Its host was no longer the host it used to be—this was the darkened version of its host!
“Do they really think this young lady’s things are so easy to take?” Yan Tingting lifted her chin with a light snort.
“Hehe, but Host, how do you know archery?”
“I just have a bit of a bad temper. Don’t tell me you thought a daughter carefully raised by the Yan family wouldn’t know anything!” Yan Tingting said proudly.
She simply hadn’t liked studying at school, but from small things like horseback riding, archery, shooting, martial arts, and musical instruments, to big things like managing a company—what hadn’t she learned?
It was just that with her older brother and sister at the Yan family holding things up above her, she had been able to live so freely. But if the Apocalypse hadn’t come, she would have had to return to help the Yan family after graduation anyway.
How could someone raised by the Yan family be a complete good-for-nothing? The Yan family merely doted on their daughter—it wasn’t as if they were raising her to be useless.
“Host, we’re going places. We’re definitely going to save the world.” The System was brimming with confidence.
Yan Tingting nodded solemnly. “That’s what I think too.”
One human and one System, supremely confident.
Fortunately, over the journey that followed, Yan Tingting didn’t run into any more troublesome opponents. After about an hour or so, she arrived outside Minghe City’s famous granary.
“Host, there’s so much grain here! If we take it all, it could feed a small base for seven or eight years.” The System’s voice was cheerful.
Yan Tingting rammed the car through the precarious gate, then opened the door and got out. “Take it all for what? Our Yan family isn’t planning to build a base.”
The moment she finished speaking, several zombies in work uniforms staggered toward her. Yan Tingting dispatched them cleanly and efficiently, then headed toward the first granary.
The granaries here were enormous—each one was about thirty meters across, and a single warehouse could store several thousand tons of grain. There were sixteen granaries in total here.
Yan Tingting thought for a moment, then simply stored the grain from ten of the granaries into her Spatial Dimension. As for the remaining six, she made some arrangements to ensure Nan Huaixu would discover the grain inside them.
Jiang Xinyue didn’t have a Spatial Dimension this lifetime, but there was no guarantee she wouldn’t obtain some other fortuitous opportunity. This way, the grain in the granaries was guaranteed not to fall into Jiang Xinyue’s hands, while Yan Tingting herself gained quite a bit in the process.
Setting aside her awkward relationship with Nan Huaixu, the Nan family’s army had been rescuing survivors, collecting grain, and guarding bases ever since the Apocalypse began—things that had allowed many ordinary people to survive.
When the Apocalypse arrived, order collapsed, but the Yan Nation always retained a sliver of a bottom line—this was the main reason it remained the best-conditioned and strongest country in the world after the Apocalypse.
So Yan Tingting was unwilling to go too far either. After all, in her previous life, Nan Huaixu had put out a warrant for her in every base, but he had never made a move against the Yan family.
“Alright, let’s go!” Yan Tingting clapped her hands and started the car in high spirits.
With so much food and supplies, it was enough to let the Yan family live comfortably and freely in the Apocalypse for the rest of their lives.
Just as the car was about to leave the granary, a chill ran down her back. Yan Tingting sensed something wrong, flung open the car door, jumped out, rolled a few times, and landed to the side.
The next instant, the entire vehicle was flung into the air, and green fluorescence instantly shredded it into pieces.
The roots of a green Mutant Plant surged wildly, and gaping maws opened along the thick roots, rows of jagged teeth glinting with cold light—dense and terrifying.
The car fragments crunched loudly between those teeth before being swallowed whole by the monster, leaving not even a scrap behind.
“Ding! Death Countdown: twenty minutes. Good luck, Host!” The System’s voice was much calmer this time.
“Is this the Level-4 Mutant Plant that cost Nan Huaixu and his group so dearly in the original story? Judging by its appearance, its current strength must be more than Level 2 already!” Yan Tingting felt a sense of dread.
A twenty-minute countdown meant this monster was far more dangerous than the dozen-plus Ability Users combined.
No wonder even Nan Huaixu, the great villain, had suffered at its hands—and this wasn’t even its second evolution yet!
“It’s at peak Level 2! Host, if you take it down, you’ll have a peak Level-2 crystal core. With its core, your strength will definitely improve.” The System was full of confidence in Yan Tingting.
Yan Tingting’s lips curled into a smile that didn’t reach her eyes, then she turned and ran. This vine was better left to Nan Huaixu.
But the Mutant Plant had no intention of letting go of this fresh piece of meat. Its roots spread rapidly to block Yan Tingting’s path. She spurred her vines to entangle the plant and slipped into her Spatial Dimension.
“Is the Death Countdown over?” Yan Tingting called out the System.
“No, but the countdown has been paused.” The System wasn’t panicked at all, brimming with confidence in her. “Charge, Host! You can definitely take it down!”
Yan Tingting slapped her forehead. Sure enough, no courting death, no death. “I think so too. Let’s fight it out.” The paused time meant the Mutant Plant hadn’t left.
Yan Tingting recovered some energy in the Spatial Dimension, then slipped back out. The Mutant Plant was indeed still there, and the moment she appeared, countless root-mouths snapped at her.
Watching its roots, Yan Tingting had a flash of inspiration. She spurred the vine in her palm, rapidly growing countless small branches, which sprouted countless sharp thorns that stabbed straight into the roots.
The Mutant Plant let out piercing shrieks from its many maws. Yan Tingting covered her ears and dropped to one knee—that move had been powerful, but it had drained her Supernatural Ability completely.
“Host, you’re amazing! You actually figured out such a powerful ultimate move.” The System cheered. Its host was truly incredible.
Taking advantage of the opening, Yan Tingting quickly took out two crystal cores and absorbed them. But the Mutant Plant, maddened by the pain, whipped its roots at her. She couldn’t dodge in time, and several bloody gashes instantly appeared on her back.
Yan Tingting let out a muffled grunt and, reversing her hand, sent several wooden spikes flying toward the mutant plant’s central root system. The roots danced through the air, blocking the spikes.
“Today, either it dies or I do,” Yan Tingting said, her face pale. She channeled the supernatural ability within her body and charged forward, not noticing that behind her, several bloody wounds had taken on a faint, unremarkable green glow—the wounds were slowly healing.
The mutant plant had been injured, but it was, after all, a peak Level-Two minor monster. Yan Tingting’s attacks were neutralized, and the plant revealed itself, its several mouths clamped tightly shut as it shot up to three or four meters tall, encasing her within.
“Host, get into the Spatial Dimension now—only one minute left on the Death Countdown,” the System’s voice urged urgently.
