The System’s words stirred Yan Tingting’s fighting spirit. “This Wood-type Ability of mine is no worse than any other ability.” Bowing her head to Jiang Xinyue? Impossible.
Just as her spirits were high, her stomach let out a growl. Yan Tingting rubbed her belly—it seemed filling it came first.
She left the Spatial Dimension and sat down in front of the surveillance monitors. With a wave of her hand, the table was set with steaming squirrel-shaped mandarin fish, beggar’s chicken, a bowl of fresh soup, and rice, and she dug in eagerly.
Once she was full, Yan Tingting contentedly rubbed her belly and watched the monitors. The villa next door was so silent it felt unsettling.
She didn’t believe for a second that the man who had fled would stay quietly in that house.
But she kept herself busy too, using her mind to organize the mountain of supplies piled in her Spatial Dimension, and even fencing off an area to raise the surviving livestock.
“Bang!” Faint noises came from outside, and Yan Tingting stood up alertly.
The commotion seemed to come from far away, and before she could make out what it was, several of the surveillance screens in front of her went black.
Fortunately, when she’d hired people to reinforce the house, she’d also had them install hidden cameras around the villa, and those hadn’t been affected.
Soon, a black shadow flashed swiftly through the quiet villa across the way, then vanished just as quickly.
“Host, something’s coming!” The System’s voice was anxious.
“If I waited for you to warn me, I’d already be dead.” Yan Tingting darted out of the monitoring room, paused for a moment at the door, then turned and sprinted up to the second floor.
Just as she reached the top of the stairs, there was a loud crash—something slamming against the glass.
Yan Tingting crossed her arms and strolled out leisurely. How embarrassing—she’d almost forgotten she’d installed the best security in this villa. Even the sturdiest windows had three layers of glass, plus two layers of electric fencing.
She walked toward the source of the noise and saw the ferocious face outside the window. The outermost layer of glass had cracked from the impacts. “So the ability you awakened was Strength.”
At the sight of Yan Tingting, the monstrous face twitched violently, then it slammed into the glass even harder.
The outermost layer of glass soon shattered under the blows. The man smiled smugly, just about to teach the woman inside a proper lesson—when he slammed into another layer of glass, and the smile froze on his face.
Yan Tingting chuckled softly and approached the window. Under the man’s bewildered, terrified gaze, she pressed the button inside the window frame.
The familiar, teeth-grating hum of electricity sounded, and a current even stronger than the one on the outer walls quickly turned the man’s burly body charred black.
Before he could even let out a scream, he became a blackened lump and fell. But the noise just now had still attracted dozens of zombies shuffling closer.
Yan Tingting wiggled the little green sprout in her palm, slid the window open a crack, and the sprout in her hand shot out wildly, wrapping up the lump of charcoal on the ground and flinging it far away.
The surrounding zombies chased after the noise. Yan Tingting patted the little green sprout as it retracted, and closed the window.
Yan Tingting looked out the window at the plants outside. Before the Apocalypse, this villa district had been famous as a pastoral retreat—beautiful scenery, but with that came an abundance of vegetation.
But in seven days, the second black rain would arrive. After that rain, vegetation would grow and mutate wildly. With the plants here already so lush, they would surely be a nightmare to deal with.
When she had chosen this villa, it was only to safely get through the days of awakening her Supernatural Ability. According to the plot in the book, Jiang Xinyue left Yancheng during the second black rain, and because of the rain, her group had hidden in a villa district for several days.
Although Yan Tingting wasn’t sure it was this villa, she only had one precious life, so it was better to be careful.
Even more troublesome than Jiang Xinyue was the fact that in five days, the great villain would head into Yancheng. He would spend two days in the city, pick up Jiang Xinyue, and only then leave Yancheng with her.
At this thought, Yan Tingting gritted her back teeth. Those two shameless creatures really were having an affair.
Meanwhile, Jiang Xinyue’s situation was truly not good. The Apocalypse had come too suddenly, and because of Yan Tingting, she had only just been released from the police station. She had been with Song Jian when the sky changed.
Song Jian, suddenly going mad, had nearly killed her. She had barely escaped, only to come down with a high fever and almost collapse in the street.
Fortunately, she gritted her teeth and held on, managing to hide in the restroom of a small, out-of-the-way shopping center.
The small shopping center had already closed when the Apocalypse struck, so there weren’t many people inside—but a few staff members who had been taking inventory had now turned into Zombies and were wandering outside the restroom.
This restroom had a door—not exposed like some—but likewise, the Zombie was trapped near the sinks, unable to get out.
Jiang Xinyue clutched her unbearably hungry stomach, her face going pale as she glimpsed the horrifying Zombie through the gap.
It was all Yan Tingting’s fault. If not for her, she wouldn’t have been trapped in the police station for so long, missing such crucial information and ending up in this predicament.
She had to get out. Otherwise, even if she awakened a Supernatural Ability, she would starve to death in this place.
Feeling the faint power within her body, Jiang Xinyue gained a bit more confidence. Suppressing her disgust, she picked up the mop in the corner, gripped it with trembling hands, and opened the restroom door.
The Zombie, catching sight of fresh flesh and blood, lunged at Jiang Xinyue. Face to face with its mangled, bloody features, she shuddered inside, and without thinking, swung the mop at the Zombie.
The Zombie was struck several times but kept relentlessly lunging at her. After failing again and again, and seeing that she was about to die in the Zombie’s jaws, Jiang Xinyue summoned all her strength and, screaming, swung at the Zombie’s head—again and again, with all the hatred in her heart.
Blood splattered all over Jiang Xinyue’s face. The Zombie soon went still, and Jiang Xinyue calmed down, though her face was deathly pale.
But before she could breathe a sigh of relief, louder sounds came from outside the restroom. Looking through the light beneath the door, she could see at least three or four Zombies. Desperation rose in Jiang Xinyue’s eyes.
