Lin Shuangshuang, carrying her pink backpack, moved through the small town with sharp awareness—seeing in all directions and listening for everything. Her search speed was extremely fast.

Even though she couldn’t use her abilities, her physical strength was still far beyond ordinary people.

She kicked open another warehouse door. The zombies inside instantly erupted into chaos.

She gripped her steel rod and smashed each of their heads in turn—an emotionless harvesting machine. Blood splattered everywhere, some of it even spraying onto her goggles.

Lin Shuangshuang casually wiped it off.

Zombies were dead things driven only by instinct. In their eyes, there was only fresh flesh.

No fear.

No stopping.

They kept making guttural “huff—huff—” sounds as they lunged at her.

For an ordinary person, it would have been terrifying.

But Lin Shuangshuang expressionlessly continued her slaughter, deliberately knocking their heads in one direction so it would be easier later to pry open skulls and extract energy cores.

Thirty minutes later,

the factory area had been mostly cleared of zombies, leaving only a floor of blood and gore.

It was a noodle processing factory.

Unfortunately…

When the apocalypse broke out, this place must have experienced a horrific wave of zombie attacks. No one survived.

With so many people inside, once they turned, they tore into each other and hunted one another, causing contamination levels to spike.

Blood, severed limbs, flesh fragments—everything visible was smeared across the entire factory.

She kicked open what looked like the finished-product warehouse.

All the packaged noodles inside were completely contaminated.

Not a single usable item remained.

Luo Na’s voice came through the team channel:

“Hey hey? How’s everyone doing? Xiao Zhe and I followed Huo-team’s instructions and went to the commercial street. The contamination here is severe—there’s barely any food left we can take.”

Wu Zhe’s regretful voice followed:

“Sigh… it looks like when the apocalypse broke out, people already looted this area several times. The shelves are empty, and anything left on the ground is contaminated.”

No good news from their side.

Gao Lei then reported:

“Our side isn’t much better. Same situation. Contamination rate is as high as 90%. Finding even one clean item out of ten is lucky.”

Huo Ling’s voice remained steady:

“Don’t rush. Keep searching.”

Lin Shuangshuang raised her wrist and pressed the communication button.

“I found a noodle processing factory. But the supplies are also heavily damaged. I’ll try searching carefully to see if I can find any clean food.”

Luo Na’s excited voice came through immediately:

“Wow, Shuangshuang, go for it! A factory! There might be more hidden leftovers!”

“Yes,” Lin Shuangshuang replied.

Then she stopped replying and focused entirely on searching.

In corners and hidden places, she still managed to find things—not necessarily flour or raw materials, but employees’ personal items.

In the break room cabinets that hadn’t been opened, there were snacks used to fill hunger.

She checked one by one and found soda crackers, eight-treasure porridge, peanut milk, AD calcium milk, assorted candies, chocolate, tea packets, Shaqima, egg-yolk pastries, and jelly.

“!!”

When she opened one cabinet, she froze.

A piece of prepared food inside had turned into maggot-infested rot.

And the maggots had mutated.

A palm-sized worm with two heads and spikes growing on its back squirmed violently.

Bang.

Before it could lunge at her, Lin Shuangshuang slammed the cabinet shut and locked it tight.

Let it rot in there.

She turned her head and noticed a courier storage area nearby, instantly brightening.

There would definitely be more supplies there.

This time she was lucky—the courier storage room door was intact.

Inside was only one zombie.

She kicked the door open as usual and pierced its head with a steel rod.

Then she began searching.

It was a small food processing factory of fewer than a hundred workers, so there weren’t many parcels.

She opened them one by one.

“Umbrella? Useful. Box of pens? Useful. Hm… a rotten box of cucumbers. This box of apples is fine.”

As expected—apples lasted the longest.

She took off her gloves and counted.

Twenty large apples, each bigger than her fist, all fresh.

“Just what we need—fruit and vegetables.”

She muttered to herself while storing them into her spatial card.

Unfortunately, that was all.

The biggest harvest from the courier area was just this box of apples.

Most parcels belonged to middle-aged buyers—cheap everyday items mixed with random goods. Unfortunately, many vegetables had already rotted.

“Still, apples are good,” she comforted herself.

Then she moved on.

Next was the raw materials warehouse.

It was heavily contaminated. Flour bags were smeared with blood.

She dragged one down and opened it, hoping that at least half might still be usable.

But it wasn’t.

Blood had mixed completely with flour, forming clumps. The contamination had caused microbial growth, and mutated insects were crawling inside.

What a pity.

She had already muttered “what a pity” so many times she lost count—watching so much food right in front of her, unable to take it away.

In the end, from the entire factory she only managed to collect:

She reported the findings to the group, then continued toward the next location.

Other factories were similar.

Lin Shuangshuang could clearly feel how harsh the survival situation was.

Even Luo Na sighed in the team channel:

“Novels really are fake!! In a real apocalypse, there’s no way this much loot is just waiting for you to pick up! Everything gets looted immediately!”

Gao Lei replied:

“Did you forget the population size? A single typhoon can empty supermarkets overnight. In an apocalypse, people loot, steal, and grab everything in less than half a day.”

The hardest part was that even those who obtained supplies might not keep them—stolen, robbed, or lost while fleeing.

All those supplies would then become contaminated and inedible.

Too difficult.

Huo Ling said:

“In a sudden outbreak apocalypse like this, anyone would be caught off guard.”

Even though he and Zhao Pingsheng had sensed something was wrong earlier, they hadn’t expected it to arrive this fast—or this violently.

Fortunately, they had met Zhang Dapeng early and built the mobile fortress.

Otherwise, things would be far worse.

Sensing the team’s low mood, Lin Shuangshuang spoke up:

“I did find some food.”

At least something was better than nothing.

The atmosphere immediately improved. Luo Na also reported she had found several small bags of rice, and Wu Zhe had obtained some hotpot base seasoning.
