Lin Shuangshuang stretched her muscles. Before the bearded man could even react, she accelerated into a sliding tackle in front of him, leapt up, and smashed her fist into his face.
A crisp cracking sound rang out.
She heard the sound of bones in his face shattering, and the man’s bulky body went rigid.
He died quickly.
After landing steadily on the ground, she turned to stare at the remaining thugs. The eight of them all went pale.
One even wet himself.
The bearded man’s face had caved in as he collapsed stiffly to the ground.
A loud “thud” echoed out.
The group of punks who had just been shouting about brotherhood for life were now terrified out of their minds.
Screams erupted nonstop.
“Ah!!!!”
“Madwoman! She’s insane!!”
“Run, run!!!!”
They scattered in all directions, fleeing in panic and desperation.
Lin Shuangshuang looked at the ground—there was only one “dead fish.” Still eight more were missing!
But her mind lagged again, her memory reset. Her pupils trembled, then cleared once more. She tilted her head, taking in the scene.
She concluded: someone provoked her, she killed him. Good. Mission complete.
She successfully forgot there were still eight more punks.
Her muscle memory kicked in before her brain caught up. Her hand had already activated her wrist device, projecting a light screen, and she opened her memo app.
She recorded the time again.
This time—five minutes?
Her condition had worsened again.
Lin Shuangshuang frowned, a little unhappy, and pouted slightly.
She adjusted her backpack straps. Passing by the disfigured corpse of the bearded man, she even kicked him aside—he was blocking her way.
The nearby onlookers who had witnessed everything nearly had their souls scared out of them.
Only after she left the building did everyone finally breathe again.
They began whispering among themselves.
“Holy crap, she’s insane!! That girl is not normal!”
“I’ve read novels before. Now that zombies are really appearing… could there actually be people with powers?”
“I think so! Otherwise how could she kill a grown man with one punch??”
“He deserved it! He had been robbing people earlier!”
…
The situation on the streets kept changing.
After Lin Shuangshuang came out of the supermarket again, she noticed zombies had already appeared on the road.
She casually picked up a steel pipe and carried it with her.
When a zombie lunged at her, she struck it with a swing, knocking its head off.
Free ascension.
Everyone was fleeing toward the countryside, and the huge city quickly became much emptier.
By nightfall, the streets were deserted, with only a few zombies wandering around.
The remaining survivors were all hiding inside their homes, refusing to come out.
Lin Shuangshuang looked like a homeless orphan.
No choice.
She didn’t know how to drive.
And no kind soul was willing to give her a ride either—after the internet connection hadn’t fully collapsed yet, videos of her “highlight moment” killing the bearded man had already gone viral. Some people screamed and ran the moment they saw her.
Lin Shuangshuang herself saw it online. Even she had no memory of that moment.
Aside from admiring her own fierce performance, she felt a slight annoyance.
Messy and chaotic.
Then it started to rain.
Lin Shuangshuang tilted her head up toward the sky. It was dark—no moon, no stars.
Raindrops fell on her face.
She turned and ran toward a nearby shop, planning to find temporary shelter.
When it rains, she knows to take cover.
Not too stupid.
Huo Ling was scrolling through online videos. Many people were posting updates about the current situation—some asking for help, some chasing novelty, and the first group of survivors who had escaped the city were expressing relief.
The most popular video of the day was a girl with curly hair punching a burly man down in one hit.
Then came a series of clips: the same girl knocking off a zombie’s head with a steel pipe—the visuals were extremely impactful.
There was also a clip of her squatting outside a dessert shop, staring longingly at the cakes in the window.
The latest footage showed her looking up at the sky, then running into the rain. It was shot from above, likely secretly filmed from a nearby building. Even in a crisis like this, people were still gossiping—the human race really was something.
“This girl is insane. Who is she? Why is she still wandering outside so late?”
“Doesn’t she have family?”
“Somehow I feel bad for her… she looks so alone.”
“Huo-ge, she’s not far from us. Should we check it out?”
“I think so. A combat-type teammate like her is useful! And she looks kind of cute. As long as you don’t provoke her, she won’t attack randomly.”
The teammates discussed it noisily.
Huo Ling only stared at the girl in the video, replaying the clip of her running in the rain over and over.
In the middle of the night, Lin Shuangshuang heard barking dogs. The street she was on had many residential buildings.
Doors and windows were locked.
She couldn’t get in.
So she found a second-floor balcony that could shelter her from the rain and sat there instead.
Dinner was a piece of chocolate, an energy drink, and a bread roll.
She ate while looking down.
Below, zombies and mutated dogs were fighting, tearing into each other with guttural snarls.
Blood splattered everywhere.
She chewed her dry food slowly, watching for a while, thinking about what to do next.
Important things had to be recorded in her memo app, or she would forget them completely. But she had written too many things, and she didn’t have the patience to go through them carefully. Maybe it was because she had flipped through her notes too many times before, which made her resistant to it now. So she only scrolled randomly.
She had just discovered her wrist device had storage space—an embedded 100-cubic-meter dimension.
But she was afraid she would forget about it.
So she still kept her food in her backpack, wearing it felt safer.
After eating, she prepared to sleep.
But then the ground shook violently, waking her up instantly. When she opened her eyes, her memory had reset again.
Lin Shuangshuang flipped off the platform without hesitation. From four to five meters high, she landed steadily on the ground. Zombies and mutated creatures were also in chaos.
A deep rumbling sound came from underground, shaking people’s hearts.
An earthquake!
Lin Shuangshuang ran along with the zombies and mutated animals. It turned out that no matter what species, when faced with a life-threatening disaster, no one cared about fighting anymore.
Everyone was just trying to survive.
Along the way, she carefully avoided being trampled by zombies and mutated creatures. Survivors inside buildings screamed in terror after realizing it was an earthquake, despair spreading through the entire community.
Outside were zombies and mutated animals; inside was a massive earthquake.
Seeing a girl running wildly in the street, many survivors quickly packed their belongings and rushed outside to escape.
Both sides were lined with buildings, and the streets were relatively wide, but debris still fell from above.
Lin Shuangshuang reacted quickly and avoided them with ease. Ordinary people weren’t so lucky and were crushed into a bloody mess.
The smell of blood grew stronger.
She couldn’t save everyone. At most, when passing by, she would pull someone aside to help them avoid falling debris—but she still had to run for her life.
Even so, each of those small actions gave ordinary people a chance to survive.
Those who were saved turned pale with shock and hurried to thank her—but the girl had already become a blur in the distance.
She ran faster than anything else.
