When Lin Shuangshuang heard that acid rain was coming, she immediately became worried about the castle.

“If it’s acid rain… will it be okay? The outer shell is made of metal…”

Rona draped an arm over her shoulder and laughed.Full novel: Apocalyptic Carnival: The Little Monster Only Has Seven Seconds of Memory — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“No worries, no worries. Our castle is super sturdy. It can withstand acid rain—and even volcanic lava. Old Zhang is still reinforcing it all the time.”

Unless something even more powerful appears, this little castle is definitely the safest place right now. And even if stronger threats do emerge in the future, Zhang Dapeng’s abilities are still constantly evolving.

So it’s very safe.

Lin Shuangshuang nodded. “I understand. This is the safest place.”

Rona patted the back of her head with a grin. “Exactly!”

Then she headed toward the living room.

Lin Shuangshuang put her changed combat uniform into the laundry basket and followed her in. After that, they sorted the supplies they had brought back today.

She directly stored the items in the warehouse so they wouldn’t have to move them again.

Food was stored in three large warehouses on the first floor: staple foods, canned goods, and snacks at room temperature, vegetables in preservation storage—there was nothing that needed freezing.

Looking at the empty warehouses, Lin Shuangshuang felt the responsibility ahead of them was heavy.

Still, they already had 593 jin of rice, plus various other supplies—enough for seven people to last about fifty days.

That was enough to breathe a little easier.

Overall, she was satisfied.

After storing the food, she went to the basement level to deliver the other items—mainly the parts and metal materials found by Huo Ling and Gao Lei.

She took the stairs down. At the stairwell, she found a security door. Before she could even think, it automatically unlocked for her.

It turned out it required a wristband scan. The wristband contained a chip.

Lin Shuangshuang had the chip, plus uploaded iris and facial recognition, so she was approved instantly.

Zhang Dapeng was busy working. He appeared on a large screen in the basement via video call, wearing a dirty apron, not even looking at the camera.

“Little Shuang, just put the items in the warehouse on the right,” he said.

Lin Shuangshuang nodded, then remembered he couldn’t see her and replied obediently, “Okay.”

She followed instructions and unloaded everything into the warehouse.

The warehouse was enormous, with huge shelves and excellent load-bearing capacity, filled with neatly arranged parts and metal materials.

She had expected chaos—but everything was surprisingly organized. Small items were placed in baskets, larger items neatly arranged, almost obsessive in orderliness.

It was strangely satisfying to look at.

In the middle, there was an empty space with a sign reading “Unsorted.” She placed the items there.

After a loud rustling sound, she finished unloading everything.

Zhang Dapeng thanked her briefly and immediately returned to work, surrounded by loud mechanical noises.

The castle’s soundproofing was impressive—the noise was almost completely blocked by just one door.

After delivering the parts, she went to the third floor to drop off medical supplies. The six medical kits were comprehensive, and it made sense to leave them with Zhao Pingsheng.

And indeed, he was very pleased—but he was busy experimenting and only politely told her he didn’t have time to offer her tea.

She said she wasn’t thirsty and left after dropping off the items.

She didn’t think they were being rude—scientists were just like that. In fact, she admired how busy and responsible they were.

After finishing everything, she took a shower. The small fatigue she had vanished completely, and she felt fully refreshed again.

She wanted to go up to the rooftop.

She still took the stairs.

Passing the fourth floor, she peeked inside and heard someone showering.

Half-showering Huo Ling: ??

Lin Shuangshuang grinned and continued upward.

At the rooftop, her eyes lit up immediately. She was stunned by how beautiful it was—the glass ceiling had patterns, while the sides were completely transparent.

Outside, heavy rain poured down, washing everything clean. The drifting cotton fluff from the mutated kapok tree had finally been pinned down by the rain, making the world look much clearer.

“Oh! It’s Little Shuangshuang!”

Rona, wearing home clothes and holding an empty bucket, looked up in surprise.

Lin Shuangshuang nodded and pointed at the bucket. “What’s that?”

Rona looked down and smiled. “For mixing fertilizer. I’m here to water the plants. You’re here to look around, right? You’ve been here a few days and finally came up.”

“It’s actually pretty nice here. Everything’s green—it’s relaxing.”

Lin Shuangshuang looked at the vegetable seedlings. “Mm.”

She didn’t talk much—just simple question and answer.

Rona didn’t mind. Instead, she found it cute, like talking to a child who was curious but shy.

“Want to learn how to grow vegetables? I can teach you!”

Lin Shuangshuang looked at her enthusiastic smile and nodded. “I want to.”

She walked over.

Rona placed the bucket between them and squatted down by the seedlings.

“Growing vegetables is simple. The soil here is pre-mixed black soil, so it doesn’t need frequent fertilizing. Dr. Zhao also developed a growth-boosting liquid. You just water the roots.”

She was patient, like an older sister teaching a child.

Lin Shuangshuang had held guns, knives, and killed before—but this was her first time watering plants. She found it fascinating.

“It really is fun.”

Rona laughed. “Right? It’s very stress-relieving.”

She added, “But Huo, Dr. Zhao, and Zhang are too busy to take care of this. Xiao Zhe is just lazy, and Gao Lei comes up occasionally.”

Lin Shuangshuang sighed, “This place is really nice.”

“Yeah,” Rona agreed. “We’re lucky to be together. Thanks to Captain Huo and the others—they’re the backbone of this castle. With them around, everything feels secure.”

Lin Shuangshuang agreed.

The first floor of the castle was about 185 square meters—quite spacious.

The rooftop garden was also large.

Rona continued, “It’s divided into zones. That side is the fruit tree area, but they’re small trees because we can’t break the glass. Still, they’re supposed to bear a lot of fruit.”

There were apples, local cherries, sweet cherries, pears, peaches, apricots, plums, and more.
