Only then did Lin Shuangshuang slowly open her eyes. She blinked a few times. Although she didn’t fully understand what was going on, the person in front of her was someone she liked.

So she just wanted to act spoiled.

Lin Shuangshuang pouted and complained, “Huo Ling, you’re so mean.”Full novel: Apocalyptic Carnival: The Little Monster Only Has Seven Seconds of Memory — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Huo Ling raised a brow and glanced at the hair still wrapped around him. “Explain.”

Lin Shuangshuang giggled.

Still pretending to be clueless.

Huo Ling ignored the strands of hair and quickly finished washing her.

During the process, she lost her memory several times.

Sometimes when she opened her eyes and saw him, she called him Huo Ling. Other times, she just stared blankly.

Huo Ling wrapped her up and carried her out. The entire floor belonged to him, and the bed was large.

Lin Shuangshuang was tossed onto the soft bed. She rolled around smelling the familiar scent, exposing her fair skin without any embarrassment.

Huo Ling grabbed a set of his clothes and quickly dressed her. The oversized T-shirt reached her thighs, and he also put on a pair of sleep pants for her.

He tied the waistband into a knot.

Then he lifted her again and brought her up to the third floor.

Lin Shuangshuang looked around curiously.

Although the environment was unfamiliar,

any place with Huo Ling present felt like the safest place in the world to her.

Zhao Pingsheng saw the two of them and let out a teasing “yo.”“You two still call this ‘exes’?”

After joking, he handed over the medicine.

He didn’t react much to her changed hair color either.

“The little girl’s pretty obedient.”

“One bottle, twenty pills. One pill a day. Supplies are running low—I need plant-type energy cores. Bring me more later.”

Huo Ling agreed, then glanced at the person who had just been called “obedient.”

“Obedient? She’s got more tricks than anyone.”

He said it with a faint self-mocking tone.

Lin Shuangshuang remained silent, pretending to be dead. She only looked at the bottle of white pills, reached out to take it, and kept examining it.

Huo Ling told her to take one.

She obediently opened her mouth and swallowed it, chewing a bit. It had no taste—just slightly bland.

Zhao Pingsheng continued, “Her blood test results are almost out. Come back after dinner. Also, something about her condition feels off.”

She didn’t seem like a normal human.

More like a monster.

Huo Ling caught the seriousness in his tone and nodded.

They went downstairs for dinner.

Zhao Pingsheng’s meal was delivered upstairs by a robot servant, Xiao San. The housekeeping robot wore an apron, about 1.3 meters tall, and could ride the elevator on its own. However, it didn’t go to the fourth floor—its program didn’t allow it.

Huo Ling was very independent and also had a strong desire for control and possession. He didn’t like anyone disturbing his territory, and his teammates all knew it.

Lin Shuangshuang watched the round robot deliver food and even ask Zhao Pingsheng how his experiments were going and whether he was happy today.

It looked almost human.

Downstairs, the gossip trio’s eyes were practically shining like titanium alloy dog eyes.

Huo Ling almost didn’t want to go down anymore.

After taking the medicine, Lin Shuangshuang felt much better. The repeated “stuttering” of her memory had indeed stopped. She was quite happy and found the feeling novel.

When they came downstairs, Luo Na helped serve soup, Wu Zhe scooped rice, Gao Lei placed chopsticks, and all three of them stared at the pair.

Huo Ling had already set Lin Shuangshuang down. She sat down on her own, looking at the unfamiliar people.

Although she was very clingy toward Huo Ling, she was cold and extremely cautious toward outsiders.

However, these people seemed to be Huo Ling’s new teammates—people he trusted. So she felt a bit nervous and uncertain.

“Luo Na, Gao Lei, Wu Zhe. This is Lin Shuangshuang. Say hello.”

Huo Ling said expressionlessly.

They quickly greeted her. “Hello, hello.” “Hi, hi.”

Luo Na sat next to Lin Shuangshuang, already burning with gossip energy, but before she could get friendly, she heard Huo Ling say:

“Let Xiao San and Xiao Si clear out a room on the second floor.”

Lin Shuangshuang froze.

Luo Na, Wu Zhe, and Gao Lei also froze.

“What…?”

Didn’t he just say the new teammate would stay with him? Why suddenly change?

Truly—a man’s heart is like a needle at the bottom of the sea.

Wu Zhe, being younger and more straightforward, was about to ask, but Luo Na stuffed food into his mouth, silencing him.

She smiled sweetly. “Alright, no problem. I’ll prepare it later.”

She chuckled inwardly.

Seeing Lin Shuangshuang deflate instantly, she thought: Yeah, try getting her back later—it won’t be easy.

Lin Shuangshuang was indeed disappointed, but she still tried to fight for it.

“I want to sleep with you.”

Her tone wasn’t very confident.

Huo Ling shot her a cold look. “On what basis? As my ex-girlfriend?”

“Did you forget we already broke up? Or are you still pretending?”

“Or do you want to explain? I can listen.”

He looked directly at her.

Lin Shuangshuang lowered her head under his gaze, feeling even more upset. She opened her mouth but said nothing in the end.

Then she forced out, “It’s fine. Second floor is okay too. Yeah.”

Luo Na felt the atmosphere turning heavy, but also strangely satisfying.

Wu Zhe and Gao Lei exchanged a look and pretended to be invisible. As teammates, they had no objections. Huo Ling had saved all of them—he had absolute authority.

They just ate and watched the drama.

Huo Ling finished eating and left, just like before.

But this time, he didn’t take Lin Shuangshuang with him.

She stared at his back, looking dejected.

“…It would’ve been better if I stayed amnesiac.”

At least then she could still sit in his arms.

Now she was just thrown aside.

Sigh.

Luo Na leaned over curiously. “The captain gave you a chance to explain. Why didn’t you say anything? Couples shouldn’t have secrets, right? He really cares about you. Don’t miss each other again.”

Though she secretly wanted to see a dramatic “chasing wife to the crematorium” storyline.

She still hoped lovers would end up together peacefully.

Sweet love stories were nice too.

Lin Shuangshuang shook her head weakly.

“My memory is messy… but I know I can’t say.”

Luo Na could only pat her shoulder comfortingly.

“Then… just let things take their course.”
