The next day.
“Do you want to ride in the RV with us? There’s no need to take the off-road vehicle anymore. This RV can still fit all of us, and that way we can save fuel,” Jun Ruoli suggested to the two men.
“Sure, sure, su—”
Liang Qing happily agreed, but the moment he sensed the murderous glare from his captain, the rest of the word lodged in his throat.
“Keep that vehicle.”
Mu Qingruan’s voice suddenly came from behind as she walked downstairs.
“Huh?” Jun Ruoli and the others looked at her in confusion.
“I just remembered. Other than me, everyone in this team is a soldier, right?” Mu Qingruan looked at them.
“Yeah, that’s right.” Long Potian nodded, not understanding why she had suddenly brought it up.
“As far as I know, before the apocalypse, soldiers all had a strong sense of responsibility and made protecting civilians their duty. Unfortunately, I’m the exact opposite. I’m cold and heartless. You could even call me a cold-blooded creature. I don’t have a shred of sympathy.”
She looked at them calmly.
“So in the future, whenever your saint complex… no, your sense of responsibility flares up and you decide to rescue people, put them in the off-road vehicle behind us instead. After all, this is the Apocalypse World. There are far too many ungrateful people.”
“Alright. Then we’ll keep driving it.” Jun Ruoli had spent enough time with Mu Qingruan to understand that she disliked interacting with strangers. Even after spending so much time together, they knew they still hadn’t truly entered her heart.
“I’ll leave you with one piece of advice. Just because you save someone in the apocalypse doesn’t mean they’ll sincerely be grateful.”
Mu Qingruan offered the warning anyway. Whether they listened or not was their own choice. At worst, if they became too troublesome, she would simply leave.
After packing everything up, everyone climbed into the RV and continued on their journey.
By noon, they had finally left V Province and entered Tianjing City in Y Province.
“Boss, there are a lot of vehicles blocking the road ahead. There are also a lot of people gathered there. We can’t get through.”
Long Potian, who had been driving with Xiao Yunzhou, came into the cabin to report after seeing the situation ahead.
“Then let’s stop and go see what’s happening,” Jun Ruoli said as he put down the book in his hands. After glancing outside, he stood up and headed for the exit.
Curious, Mu Qingruan followed behind him.
Murong Liefeng, who had been resting with his eyes closed, heard her stand up. He slowly opened his calm phoenix eyes. Seeing her heading outside, he quietly rose and followed as well.
When Jun Ruoli and the others got out, everyone else quickly followed.
As they approached, they saw a large crowd gathered ahead. People were constantly arguing and shouting. From the conversations around them, they soon learned the reason.
The highway ahead had collapsed in the middle, making it impossible for vehicles to cross. Everyone was discussing possible solutions.
Mu Qingruan frowned slightly. The thought that their journey would be delayed made her purse her lips unhappily.
“Brother Feng! It’s you! It really is you! Brother Feng!”
A shrill female voice suddenly rang out as a figure rushed toward Mu Qingruan and Murong Liefeng at full speed.
Murong Liefeng immediately pulled Mu Qingruan aside.
The charging figure flew right past them.
Bang!
She crashed face-first onto the hard concrete road, followed by an ear-piercing scream.
“Ah! My precious boobs!”
Only then did Mu Qingruan get a clear look at the person.
It was a woman.
A woman wearing an ultra-short skirt.
A woman whose fall had exposed her black lace panties.
“My, my. Miss Showing-Off-Your-Panties, what’s wrong with your precious boobs? Did they burst from the impact?”
Chu Mochen looked at the woman sprawled on the ground with a cheerful smile.
He had clearly seen that this woman had intended to throw herself into Murong Liefeng’s arms.
She could pounce on whoever she wanted, but she had nearly knocked into their delicate little Mu Qingruan.
That was absolutely unforgivable.
“Wang Shi! Get your useless self over here and help me up!”
The woman raised her head and glared viciously at the smiling Chu Mochen before screaming.
A man hurried over after hearing her call.
Although he frowned slightly, he still quickly helped her to her feet.
After standing up, the woman shot Chu Mochen another hateful glare. Inwardly, she was already plotting how to get revenge later.
But that wasn’t the most important thing.
What mattered was that her chest really hurt.
Her heart skipped a beat.
Could that fall have actually ruptured the silicone implants?
Several burly men rushed over as well and immediately bowed and scraped before her.
“Miss Li! Are you alright?”
Slap!
The woman viciously slapped the nearest man across the face.
“A bunch of useless trash! What’s the point of asking now? Where the hell were you just now? Eating shit?”
Despite the burning pain on his face, the man continued bowing respectfully.
“Yes, yes. Miss is absolutely right. We’re useless trash. As long as you calm down.”
However, the moment he lowered his head, a vicious expression flashed across his face before disappearing just as quickly. When he looked up again, he wore the same cowardly, flattering smile.
After venting some of her anger, the woman finally forced the ugly expression off her face before turning toward Murong Liefeng with an aggrieved look.
But the moment she noticed Murong Liefeng standing beside a girl who was prettier than her, dressed better than her, and far cleaner than her, the malice on her face flashed again.
“Brother Feng, my chest hurts so much from the fall.”
She walked over to Murong Liefeng with tearful eyes, looking pitifully at his expressionless face.
After speaking, she deliberately pushed out her ample breasts and even took the opportunity to glance at Mu Qingruan’s chest.
Hmph. She’s just a little girl. How could she possibly compare to me? she thought disdainfully.
Murong Liefeng merely responded with a cold, “Mm.”
He didn’t even spare her a glance.
Her little display had been completely wasted.
“Brother Feng, who is this sister beside you?” the woman asked sweetly, already accustomed to his indifference.
Long Potian immediately stepped beside Mu Qingruan and sneered at the woman.
“Hey, lady, you’ve got to be kidding me. Our little Qingruan is obviously much younger than you, yet you actually have the nerve to call her ‘big sister’? Why don’t you take a look in a mirror and check the wrinkles around your eyes first? If there aren’t any mirrors left in the apocalypse, you can always look at your reflection in your own pee. And please stop smiling. Your smile is terrifying.”
After she had nearly crashed into their little Mu Qingruan and then tried to mock Qingruan by calling her “big sister,” they were more than happy to roast her until she started questioning her life.
