The moment they reached their apartment, Flame kicked the door open, completely out of breath.
“Silvia!
Silvia, where are you?!” he yelled.
Silvia was standing out on the balcony, her expression deadpan and serious.
Hearing the door, she turned around and pointed out toward the horizon.
“Get inside, lock the door, and look outside.”
Reian and Flame rushed to the balcony, and their jaws dropped.
Thick, black pillars of smoke were rising from multiple points across the city skyline.
Distant sounds of explosions thudded in the air.
The absolute worst part came a second later when a low-flying commercial plane tilted sideways and crashed headfirst into a massive skyscraper, unleashing a blinding, terrifying fireball.
The three of them backed into the living room, the atmosphere growing incredibly heavy.
“What the hell is happening out there?!
Has everyone gone completely insane?!” Flame yelled, pacing around and grabbing his hair.
Silvia replied in a cold, measured voice, “I’ve been watching from up here.
People are literally attacking each other on the streets.
They are biting, ripping each other apart.
It’s like they’ve entirely lost their minds.”
Cold sweat dripped down Reian’s forehead.
He swallowed hard.
“This…
this is exactly like those zombie movies we watch.
Except this is twice as terrifying.
It’s actually happening.”
Suddenly, a realization struck Reian like a bolt of lightning.
Silya!
“Silya is entirely by herself!” Reian panicked, turning on his heel and bolting straight for the front door.
Flame lunged forward, grabbing Reian’s arm and yanking him back with all his strength.
“Bro!
Stop!
Are you insane?!
Going out there right now is a suicide mission!”
“Let go of me, Flame!
We have to go save Silya!
Her parents aren’t home, she’s completely alone!” Reian shouted, desperately trying to break his brother’s grip.
Flame grabbed Reian by both shoulders and shook him violently.
“Man, calm down and listen to me! This chapter was copied from g.com without permission.
Silya will be perfectly fine.
Did you completely forget who she is?
Think back to when we were at the game store.
What kind of games does she play?
She excels at hardcore action-adventure, survival, and tactical planning games.
Her brain works incredibly fast under pressure.
She isn’t helpless.”
Reian stopped struggling, taking a ragged breath.
“Yeah…
yeah, you’re right.
She’s a top-tier gamer.”
Flame nodded seriously.
“Exactly.
So before we go running out there, we need to gear up.
We ensure our own safety first, then we go pull her out.”
Over the next ten minutes, Flame and Silvia quickly changed into their dark, lightweight ninja outfits, securing sharp, gleaming Katanas tightly around their waists.
They looked like professional lethal fighters.
Reian, however, had a completely different strategy.
He marched out of the kitchen holding a large, razor-sharp chef’s knife, which he had securely bound to the end of a long wooden broom handle with layers of heavy-duty duct tape.
He had essentially built a homemade spear to keep the monsters at a distance.
But that wasn’t all.
Reian had gathered thick physics and chemistry textbooks from his room and taped them securely around his forearms, shins, and thighs.
Flame stared at him from head to toe, utterly bewildered.
“What kind of ridiculous abomination are you wearing?”
Reian proudly swung his makeshift spear.
“Bro, this is pure science.
No matter how strong a human or a zombie bite is, their teeth will never be able to puncture through hundreds of pages of dense science textbooks.
Absolute defense!”
Flame and Silvia traded a look.
Reian’s ideas were always bizarre, but the logic was undeniably flawless.
Realizing how smart it actually was, Flame and Silvia quickly grabbed more textbooks and taped them around their own arms and legs to prevent any accidental bite marks.
“Alright guys, before we head out into the apocalypse, we absolutely need a selfie in our new zombie-proof outfits!”
Click!
With the picture taken, the three of them cautiously slipped out of the apartment building.
The streets were unrecognizable.
Two blood-stained, growling zombies immediately caught their scent and lunged forward, but Flame and Silvia didn’t hesitate.
Their katanas flashed through the air, slicing down the threats instantly.
Walking right behind them, Reian was frantically typing on his phone: [Silya!
Where are you?
Send me your address right now!]
A second later, Silya’s reply popped up with her location coordinates: [I’m at my house, Reian.
There are really creepy noises coming from outside.
I was just playing games, what’s going on?]
Reian typed back at lightning speed: [Silya, turn off the game right now!
Lock every single door and window on the ground floor from the inside.
Then run upstairs to the highest bedroom, lock yourself in, and don’t make a single sound!]
Silya messaged back instantly: [But why, Reian?
You’re scaring me, what’s happening out there?]
Reian sent one final text: [No time to explain, just do exactly what I said!
I’m on my way to you!]
In her dark living room, Silya stared at her phone, her heart hammering against her ribs.
She threw the phone onto her bed and bolted down the stairs, frantically throwing the heavy iron deadbolts on the front windows and checking the back door.
She was just about to secure the final latch when—
CRASH!!!
The heavy wooden front door completely splintered open.
A horrifying, hollow-eyed zombie covered in fresh blood forced its way into the entryway, snapping its jaws violently.
Silya’s throat went bone-dry.
She didn’t scream or waste a single second crying.
True to her gamer instincts, she spun around and sprinted up the stairs like a flash.
She slammed her bedroom door shut, locked it from the inside, and scrambled into the corner, clutching her phone tightly against her chest.
Thud…
Thud…
Thud…
Down the hallway, the heavy, dragging footsteps of the monster began to slowly ascend the wooden stairs.
The zombie was closing in on her door.
