“No, I came for the evidence.”
Phoebe held out the items in her hand.
“The café’s surveillance footage and the hospital’s medical report.”
“Phoebe, where did you get these?” Kitty asked in astonishment, staring at the items in Phoebe’s hands.
“Let’s talk when we get back.”
Once they were back, Phoebe decided to tell Kitty the whole story of where she had gotten the two items.
After hearing the story, Kitty was silent for a good while.
About five minutes passed before she finally spoke.
“Phoebe, have you looked into that man?
He spent so much money to buy you, let you go home without doing a thing, and then turned around and did all this for you.
I can’t shake the feeling…
when someone is that helpful for no reason, they’re either a scoundrel or a thief.”
Phoebe’s face flushed at Kitty’s words.
‘He didn’t do *nothing*,’ she thought.
She might not know what he’d done that night, but his forced kiss from today was still vivid in her mind.
“Phoebe?” Seeing that Phoebe wasn’t responding, her face an unnatural shade of red, Kitty called out to her again.
Phoebe shook the suggestive images from her mind and quickly shook her head.
“I know he must have his reasons for doing all this.
It’s just… you know I don’t have many connections.
I have no idea how to investigate him.
The only thing I know is that he’s not from Norport.”
“Not from Norport.” Kitty mused for a moment.
“I’ll see what I can find out.”
“Okay.”
“But whatever his motives are, we have the evidence now.
Once we release this, I’d say it’s about time for Howard Lynch and Dawn O’Connell’s masks to be torn off.”
“Let’s not be hasty.
I want to let things simmer for a while longer.”
Suddenly, Phoebe was in no hurry to release the evidence.
“Oh-ho?”
Hearing Phoebe’s words, Kitty broke into a knowing smile.
After getting the evidence, Phoebe stayed home and didn’t go out.
Even though reporters knew she was inside and camped outside the Faulkner family villa every day, they still couldn’t get an interview.
Meanwhile, the online commentary grew increasingly vicious.
During this time, Kenneth Faulkner and Hailey Faulkner never came back home.
Perhaps the reporters swarming the Faulkner villa were what kept them away.
But another story was sharing the Norport headlines with Phoebe’s scandal: a legendary financial magnate, a man who had once worked miracles in the world of finance and was known as the Imperial Chief, had appeared in Norport with plans to open a branch office.
Phoebe’s cheating scandal and broken engagement were just gossip.
The arrival of the Imperial Chief, however, sent a frenzy through all of Norport’s prominent families and business circles.
Everyone was suddenly desperate to curry favor with this towering figure, hoping to hitch their wagon to his star for a meteoric rise.
When Kitty walked into the room, she found Phoebe looking at the news.
At first, she thought Phoebe was reading the slanderous rumors about herself online and was about to tell her to stop, but then she saw Phoebe was actually reading news about the Imperial Chief.
“Phoebe, since when are you interested in financial news?
Or are you just interested in this older man?” Kitty said with a laugh, sitting down beside Phoebe and taking the tablet from her hands.
“Older man?” Phoebe asked, confused.
“Yeah.” Kitty nodded seriously.
“Back when I was out of town shooting a music video, I heard stories about him in industry circles.”
