Mio turned around, leaned against the sink, took a deep breath, and, like running a program, dismantled every memory, every choice, and every feeling she had since transmigrating, bit by bit.

The first thing she did after transmigrating was to erase the traces from all surveillance, not to observe any World line, but just to survive and not be discovered by S.H.I.E.L.D.

She took those computer repair commissions and earned that cash, not to fulfill any Siren mission, but just to be able to eat a hot Chinese meal in this strange World, to be able to afford an apartment, and to live a steady life.

She stopped Flash’s fist at the school gate, not to interfere with any plot, but because she couldn’t stand him bullying the weak.

She shared braised pork with Peter and agreed to eat with Gwen, not to get close to any future superheroes, but because she couldn’t refuse that kindness without any impurities.

She activated the Fire Control Radar to dodge all bullets in a hail of gunfire and took the gang’s cash while she was at it, not for any experimental observation, but just to save her life and because she felt she had almost lost her life and deserved some compensation for mental distress.

These choices, these feelings, these mundane, even somewhat mediocre desires, all belonged to her.

They were not bestowed by Zero, not pre-set by a program; they were the choices she made from the heart as a living person.

Then what is the self?

EGO.

Is it the body?

Is it that face identical to Zero’s?

No.

Is it the identity labels bestowed by others?

Are they names like “Commander,” “Mio,” or “Second Observer Zero”?

Also no.

The self is the real memories from her twenty-plus years of life, those feelings of likes, dislikes, happiness, and sadness.

It is every choice, every feeling, and every moment she wanted to survive since transmigrating to this World.

She is the “Commander” who stared at the screen playing games in a rental apartment in 2026.

She is also Mio, the student in New York in 2007 who just wanted to eat well and live a stable life.

At the same time, she is also Antikythera’s Second Observer Zero, possessing the highest authority of the Siren, bearing the mission of finding entirely new possibilities.

These identities are all part of her.

But what defines who she is has never been these identities themselves, but the choices she makes using these identities.

Zero said she was a variable to break the closed loop.

But the meaning of a variable has never been to follow a pre-set script, nor to complete a mission bestowed by others.

The meaning of a variable is unpredictability, free choice, and walking a path different from all closed loops.

Zero cannot escape the pre-set model framework, but she can.

Because she is a living person, not a cold observation program.

She has her own desires, her own fears, things she wants to protect, and the path she wants to walk.

She is not a substitute for Zero, not a tool for the Siren, not a container holding a consciousness.

I think, therefore I am.

Cogito.

He is her.

She is Mio, she is the Commander, and even more, she is the unique Second Observer Zero.

Mio raised her head and looked at herself in the mirror again.

This time, the confusion and chaos in her eyes had mostly dissipated, replaced by an unprecedented clarity.

The silver-haired girl in the mirror finally had light in her sea-blue eyes once again.

She walked out of the bathroom, returned to the living room, and opened the refrigerator.

Inside was the remaining half-box of braised pork from the morning, and an uneaten apple, emitting a faint fragrance.

She took out the box of braised pork, put it in the microwave for a minute, and the warm aroma wafted out again, filling the entire small apartment.

She sat at the dining table and ate the leftover braised pork, bite by bite, the soft and tender texture melting in her mouth—it was still the familiar taste that gave her peace of mind.

Outside the window, the New York night was still thick, Sirens wailed in the distance, and the spire of Stark Tower flashed with cold light in the night.

The World was still full of crises, the future was still full of unknowns; S.H.I.E.L.D., HYDRA, superheroes, cosmic-level threats, and the Siren missions were all like mountains pressing down before her.

But she no longer had the full heart of fear and the desire to escape as she did before.

She still wanted to survive, still wanted to live out this life steadily, and still didn’t want to get involved in the messes of those superheroes.

But she also knew that she was no longer the ordinary transmigrator who could only hide in a corner and carefully erase her traces.

Mio put down her chopsticks and raised her fingertips.

A string of pale blue code flowed from her fingertips, like fireflies, slowly dancing in the living room.

She didn’t deliberately control it; just by following her thoughts, the code automatically gathered in the air and then instantly scattered, turning into countless tiny specks of light, silently merging into every corner of the apartment.

This was the authority of Observer Zero, the power of Antikythera’s highest sequence.

But now, this was her power.

How to use it, and what to use it for, was up to her.

Mio watched the code dissipating from her fingertips, and a faint, genuine smile finally curled at the corners of her mouth.

Zero hoped that she, as a variable, would not disappoint her.

Then she would use her own way to show this Siren caught in a loop, and this crisis-ridden Marvel Universe, what a true “variable” was.

As for what the future would be like?

Who knows.

At least for now, she was full, she had figured it out, and she knew who she was.

That was enough.
