At Lu Mosheng’s cries for help, people quickly gathered around.

Seeing her clutching her belly and crying out in pain, many of the onlookers began pointing fingers at Zhao Xiuli and whispering among themselves.

Zhao Xiuli frantically waved her hands.Full novel: Back to the 1980s: The Beautiful Wife Who Won Her Rugged Husband’s Heart — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“I didn’t push her! She fell to the ground by herself! This has nothing to do with me!”

By the time Song Jiayan arrived, a large crowd had already gathered.

He pushed his way through the people, picked Lu Mosheng up in his arms, and rushed her to the township health clinic.

Zhao Xiuli was so furious that she felt her lungs were about to explode. However, she had finally managed to see Song Jiayan after coming all this way. She refused to leave without getting what she wanted!

At the health clinic, the doctor prescribed medication to help protect Lu Mosheng’s pregnancy.

The doctor turned to Song Jiayan and reprimanded him. “How can you be so careless as her husband? If anything happens to her or the baby, this won’t be something you can simply brush off!”

Standing nearby, Zhao Xiuli muttered under her breath, “Bullshit! I bet she’s just pretending. She’s a natural-born vixen, always putting on an act!”

Although she spoke quietly, both Lu Mosheng and Song Jiayan heard her.

Only then did Song Jiayan turn his attention to Zhao Xiuli.

His face darkened, and his expression was frighteningly cold.

“Who reported the incident?”

Before Song Jiayan could do anything, two officers from the local police station suddenly entered the ward.

Lu Mosheng, who was lying in bed, spoke up.

“Officers, I was the one who filed the report.”

Zhao Xiuli immediately sensed that something was wrong.

Sure enough, after questioning Lu Mosheng about what had happened, the two officers walked straight over to Zhao Xiuli.

“Please come with us.”

Zhao Xiuli’s eyes widened.

“Go where? Why should I go anywhere with you when I haven’t done anything wrong? I’m not going!”

The two officers were growing impatient.

“Please cooperate with our investigation.”

But Zhao Xiuli refused to cooperate.

“What are you trying to do? It’s broad daylight! Don’t think you can trick me!”

Seeing how aggressively she resisted, the two officers darkened their expressions and placed handcuffs on her.

Just before being taken out of the ward, Zhao Xiuli finally realized what was happening. She began cursing furiously.

“Lu Mosheng, you little wretch! How dare you set me up! Song Jiayan, are you dead or what? If anything happens to me, you’ll be the first person held responsible!”

Hearing her words, Song Jiayan’s eyes grew colder, but he made no move to intervene.

Meanwhile, Lu Mosheng was thinking that she absolutely had to help Song Jiayan sever his ties with the Song family once and for all.

Apart from her second sister-in-law, Li Qinghong, the rest of the Song family were like bloodsucking leeches. If Song Jiayan became successful in the future, tearing himself away from them would be like ripping out his own flesh and bones.

It was better to cut those ties cleanly now, before things became even more complicated.

After Zhao Xiuli was taken away, the ward finally fell quiet again.

Lu Mosheng looked at Song Jiayan.

“I’m sorry for making you worry.”

Song Jiayan gently stroked her hair.

“I’m the one who should apologize.”

Feeling the warmth of his hand against her head, Lu Mosheng finally felt a little better.

…

Zhao Xiuli sat inside a small, dark interrogation room at the police station. Her mouth was dry, her throat parched, and her head throbbed painfully.

Just when she thought she could no longer endure it, the door to the room finally opened.

Song Lingling, Zhao Xiuli’s daughter, hurried inside.

“Mom, are you okay?”

Zhao Xiuli grabbed her daughter’s hand and gritted her teeth furiously.

“That little wretch, Lu Mosheng, is behind all of this! I’ll make sure she pays for it! I want her dead!”

Song Lingling’s expression darkened.

“Mom, we underestimated Lu Mosheng. She’s much more cunning than we thought. You came here demanding money and ended up getting yourself into trouble. Who knows what other tricks she’ll come up with to deal with you next time?”

“Then what do you suggest we do?” Zhao Xiuli spat angrily. “If I’d known this would happen, I should have stopped her from going to find Song Jiayan in the first place!”

“Mom, I’ve just thought of an idea…”

Song Lingling leaned close to Zhao Xiuli’s ear and whispered her plan.
