Entering the office room, Bran checked the surroundings first. He took every step cautiously to not accidentally raise the alarm.
He has landed in a place which contained everything Bran needed to ruin the old man’s life. However, there was a risk too. If he found out someone had snuck in, the first doubt would land on the people within the house.
Intruding into this place from the outside is much tougher than someone trying to infiltrate from within the perimeter. So, he needed to be careful.
"Hmm, quite untidy." He muttered, looking around.
The office was quite bit with several shelves on the side, stacked with tied parchments and scrolls. A layer of dust was visible on them.
In the centre was the only neat thing about the office and that was the table. A huge wooden table that expanded nearly half the length of the room.
The chair dedicated to the governor was across from the entrance, and two chairs sitting on the other side of the table.
Bran glanced on either side of the table to check for any trap he might trigger with the slightest movement.
"Hmm? Quite old work." He found it, a wire attached to the big chair, which would either shoot darts at the intruder or raise alarms. Naturally, Bran held no intention of triggering it.
He didn’t move the chair, rather, decided to explore the papers on the table first.
"Hmm, reports, eh?" He read the label and found they were the expenses reports of the city.
There was a bound stack of parchment coming from several departments like perimeter development, garbage cleaning, crops and agriculture, festivals and contests.
And then there was another stack, this one was thinner but what caught Bran’s attention was its subject.
Brothel.
They were all about brothels, each parchment listing the number of women, their expenses, the cost of their accommodation and all.
"Hmm? The governor is paying them in return? But why? And why is the list is so thick?" Bran frowned. This was no ordinary list. This either had a deeper meaning or the Governor was a daily customer and wished to keep his hobbies well maintained.
In either case, as a ruler, Trevor shouldn’t be focusing on such fuckery so much. And especially, when stacks of reports about perimeter rebuilding and forest patrolling have been left unattended.
Not only on the table did he find requests from the public and the city security about the necessity of elevation of security but on the shelves too, there were similar parchments.
"So this perverted old man is focusing on whores more than the security, eh?" Bran grinned. Not like he was the savior of morals or anything. He just found a good source of exposing how great of a ruler that old man was.
But this wasn’t enough.
"Hmm? What can I-" he suddenly paused as he heard footsteps.
*Krik*
And the door began to part in the next instance.
Bran never had the time to reach the window so he used stealth to make himself disappear.
"Hmm?" Entering the office, Trevor frowned and looked around.
Bran took a strong gulp and shifted back, taking cautiously till he was out of the range.
Trevor did sense something in the surroundings but by the time he could reduce that something was strange, Bran had fled the scene.
....
"Haah." Bran exhaled a long sigh as he reached outside.
He was standing a little far away from his house, near a house as he caught his breath.
There was no doubt that the Governor was a strong warrior, and someone with immense authority in the town. He would rather not get caught now and give him a reason to lock him up and get his money back.
"Well, that was informative." Bran muttered as he finally stablized his breath.
When he checked,
[Lumina: 230/10]
He had only used twenty units of Lumina. But well, it was understandable since he didn’t spend more than ten minutes in the office.
And stealth wasn’t required for long as well, so yes, he still has quite a good amount to go.
’Hah, I wish I could go hunting soon and increase my magic. But for now.’ His eyes sharpened as he started walking to his destination.
....
Inside the unified sewer of the city that leads to the river in the forest, there were four soldiers currently stationed.
Two of the four were awake and standing alert. Their role was simple; protect whatever was inside until the commander arrives.
"Man, this is annoying. We have been here since last night and yet didn’t go inside to check what we are guarding." The one on the left spoke, scratching his crotch.
The one on the right snickered. "We were told to stand here, so do so, Raul. Why does it matter what we are guarding?"
Raul clicked his tongue. "Always so upright." With a grin he asked, "Is it that you fucked your wife on your wedding night just out of obligation too?"
The other one instantly glared at Raul, he didn’t like the joke at all.
But just as he was about to move, he felt a shiver run down his spine, and his eyes widened.
"Did you feel that?" He asked, only for Raul to hum,
"What?"
The solider frowned, "I felt something just walking past me."
Raul grew excited, "Should we get inside and check?"
The other one rolled his eyes. "No, it must be my imagination. Stay where you are."
Raul clicked his tongue before looking back at the tunnel.
Just what lay at the end of the darkness?
