4 - The Forest of Whispering Spirits

Beast Sovereign - A New Journey Begins (Volume 2)

The forest grew quieter with every step.

Not because there were fewer animals.

Because every creature seemed to be listening.

Lyra walked beside Umbra, her hand resting gently on his thick silver-black fur.

The new Shared Instinct skill allowed her to sense his emotions.

Curiosity.

Alertness.

A faint trace of unease.

The Codex fluttered open.

New Region

Whispering Spirit Forest

Threat Level:

Moderate

Special Trait:

The forest responds to emotions rather than strength.

Pyron walked a few paces behind them.

He offered no guidance.

Only quiet observation.

A true Guardian never solved a Beast Sovereign's trials.

He simply witnessed them.

As evening approached, strange blue lights floated between the ancient trees.

Spirit Wisps.

They danced silently through the air.

Lyra reached toward one.

It landed gently on her fingertip before disappearing with a cheerful sparkle.

"They're beautiful."

Pyron smiled.

"They reveal themselves only to those with peaceful hearts."

Suddenly—

Umbra froze.

His ears stood upright.

Something's wrong.

Lyra immediately sensed it through their bond.

Fear.

Not his own.

Someone else's.

A desperate cry echoed through the forest.

"Help!"

Lyra ran without hesitation.

Branches whipped past her as Umbra raced ahead.

They burst into a small clearing.

A young boy was trapped beneath a fallen tree.

Around him circled three shadowy beasts with glowing violet eyes.

They weren't attacking.

They were waiting.

The Codex identified them.

Wild Beasts Detected

Species:

Night Stalkers

Rank:

Advanced

Condition:

Corrupted by Void Energy

The boy trembled.

"Please..."

"They killed my horse..."

"They're going to kill me too..."

Lyra stepped between him and the beasts.

Umbra growled softly.

Not with hatred.

With warning.

The Night Stalkers lunged.

Umbra met the first with a swift leap, knocking it aside.

The second rushed Lyra.

Instead of attacking...

She blew the wooden whistle.

The familiar melody echoed through the clearing.

One of the beasts hesitated.

Its glowing violet eyes flickered.

For just a moment...

They turned deep emerald.

Pyron's eyes widened.

"The corruption..."

"It's weakening."

The third beast suddenly howled.

Black mist erupted from its body, spreading toward the others.

The emerald light vanished.

The corruption returned stronger than before.

The Codex flashed urgently.

New Discovery

Void Corruption

Nature:

External Influence

Recommendation:

Purify the source, not the victim.

Lyra understood immediately.

"The beasts aren't evil."

"They're being controlled."

She looked around the clearing.

Hidden beneath twisted roots was a black crystal pulsing with dark energy.

Every heartbeat it emitted caused the Night Stalkers to writhe in pain.

"Umbra!"

Without needing another word, Umbra understood.

Using Shared Instinct, they moved as one.

Umbra distracted the corrupted beasts while Lyra sprinted toward the crystal.

She grasped it with both hands.

An icy pain shot through her body.

Dark whispers filled her mind.

"Break the bond..."

"Trust no one..."

"Stand alone..."

Lyra closed her eyes.

She remembered the old man.

Kai's whistle.

The silver fox.

Umbra standing beside her without being asked.

"I won't listen."

"Bonds are stronger than fear."

Golden light burst from her hands.

The black crystal shattered into countless fragments.

The dark mist vanished instantly.

The three Night Stalkers collapsed to the ground.

Moments later, they slowly stood.

Their violet eyes had become clear blue.

The largest of them walked to Lyra and gently lowered its head.

It was thanking her.

The Codex glowed warmly.

The Song of First Bonds can now weaken Void Corruption.

Pyron looked at Lyra with quiet pride.

"The darkness is returning."

"But so is hope."

Far away, in the deepest part of the Whispering Spirit Forest...

A pair of crimson eyes slowly opened.

A calm voice echoed through the darkness.

"So..."

"The next Beast Sovereign has finally entered my forest."

A massive silhouette stepped out from the shadows.

It was not corrupted.

It had been waiting.

For twenty-five years.
