Shen Zhongyue needed no prompting. The moment he saw Shu Yao’s eyes, he strode toward the washroom.

“Don’t worry about it. It’ll get better after you sleep.”

Shen Zhongyue’s steps stiffened. He lowered his eyes and continued toward the washroom.Full novel: Before the Whole Family Was Sent to the Countryside, I Ran Away with the Child — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Shu Yao ignored him and continued:

“I’ve already packed everything. I’m taking Shen Huaiyu with me. From now on, he’ll take my surname, Shu.”

Qin Shu was overjoyed, and Shen Jianghai could barely conceal his excitement.

They all wanted to say something, but none of them were faster than Shen Zhongyue.

He came striding over with the handkerchief in his hand. His tall frame, standing over six feet, gave Shu Yao a strong sense of oppression.

“You’re willing to take him with you?!”

Shu Yao leaned back uneasily and instinctively furrowed her brows.

Shen Zhongyue stopped. His heart twisted with pain, yet he was so excited he nearly floated. He confirmed once again,

“You’re really willing to take him with you?”

“You’re right. No matter how much I dislike him, he’s still my son. I carried him for ten months and went through so much to give birth to him.”

She was guilty. She had lost control and conceived this child with that male seducer during a passionate encounter.

He was also her golden finger. How could she possibly abandon him?

“Is there a problem with me taking him with me?”

“No problem, no problem!”

Qin Shu pushed her youngest son aside.

“Yaoyao, thank you. Truly, thank you.”

Besides Shen Huaiyu being her cheap son and golden finger, there was another important reason: after Shu Zhenzhong’s reminder, Shu Yao suddenly remembered that she had a job.

She was a female worker at the Food Factory.

In this era, to support dual-income workers’ families, factories all operated nurseries. Large factories ran them independently, while small factories shared them. Any child over two months old could be sent there for childcare.

This was truly a blessing from the times, folks. And it seemed there was a three-shift system, which meant she could simply dump the baby there.

It was because of childbirth and the Shen Family that she had not gone to work for some time.

While everyone here was beaming with joy, Su Zhiyun and her husband wore extremely strained smiles.

Su Zhiyun could not even stop herself from secretly wiping away a tear.

It was certainly worth celebrating that her Nephew would not have to undergo rural relocation, but her two children did not have such good fortune.

Su Zhiyun’s parents were already gone, and her Older Brother was also a teacher who could barely protect himself. Her Sister-in-law refused to take in the two nephews no matter what.

Leaving the two children alone in the Capital City to face a pack of wolves and leopards was worse than keeping the entire family together.

It was not that Su Zhiyun did not want to ask Shu Yao for help, but she knew her own place. Why would Shu Yao agree?

Even their biological uncle did not want to raise the nephews, let alone a divorced Little Aunt who had never liked the Shen Family in the first place.

Hadn’t everyone seen that she had not even wanted her own son before?

Shu Yao glanced at the Shen Family members, whose expressions varied. She did not mention that she had asked Old Master Shu for help.

It was not certain whether it would work, and getting everyone’s hopes up only to dash them would hurt even more.

“Yaoyao, you haven’t taken care of a child much before. I’ll teach you.”

“Our Huaiyu is very well-behaved and especially easy to care for. He usually neither cries nor fusses. He only whimpers a couple of times when he’s hungry, has soiled himself, needs to pee, or feels unwell.”

“He drinks more milk powder now. Three scoops should be about right, mixed with a little less than half a bowl of water.”

“A baby’s skin is delicate, and he can’t drink anything too hot. You have to test the temperature first...”

As Qin Shu spoke, tears began to flow down her face.

When this Little Grandson had been born, he had weighed only a little over five pounds. Since Yaoyao did not want him, Qin Shu had fed him bit by bit until he grew this big. She did not know when she would see him again, or whether she would ever have the chance to see him again.

But she only dared to lower her head and secretly wipe away her tears, afraid to let the youngest daughter-in-law see.

She was afraid that the youngest daughter-in-law would grow disgusted and dump the child back on them.

Qin Shu rambled on and on, explaining everything from eating, drinking, urinating, and defecating to what each sound Shen Huaiyu made and every movement he performed meant.

Shu Yao listened until her eyes turned into spirals. Once she thought back on it, it was as though she had heard nothing at all.

This is bad, kid. Now that you’re following me, you’ll have to fend for yourself!

Shu Yao gave the cheap son in Qin Shu’s arms a sympathetic glance.

After holding him for a while, Qin Shu reluctantly placed her grandson in her youngest son’s arms, allowing father and son to grow close one last night.

“Come on, everyone, go back to your rooms and sleep.”

Shen Zhongyue held his son all night, unable to bear putting him down.

A two-month-old baby needed night feeding. When sleeping with his grandmother, Shen Huaiyu would cry out a couple of times after waking up. But with his father, he did not even need to open one's eyes. He only had to move slightly and suck twice, and the milk would automatically be delivered.

But for some reason, after the night feeding today, the little one was extremely excited. He kept staring at his father with wide-open eyes, continuously making sounds.

Shen Zhongyue extended his index finger and touched Shen Huaiyu’s lips.

“Shh, be quiet.”

Shen Huaiyu could not understand. He only thought his father was playing with him, and his voice became even more excited.

Shu Yao, on the bed, turned over in a daze.

She had not originally planned to sleep in the same room as an unfamiliar man, but this day had involved both transmigration and hysterical crying. The moment she touched the bed, her eyelids began to grow heavy, and she no longer had the energy to care about Shen Zhongyue.

Shen Zhongyue, meanwhile, was completely frozen. One hand gently covered Shen Huaiyu’s mouth, while the hand supporting his bottom began rhythmically patting him to sleep. Once Shu Yao’s breathing became steady again, he quietly got up and crouched beside the bed.

The dim table lamp illuminated Shu Yao’s beautiful, peaceful face. Her slightly curled eyelashes and small, high bridge of nose cast lovely shadows across her features.

Shen Zhongyue’s face alternated between light and shadow beneath the faint glow, and it was impossible to tell what emotion filled his eyes.

“Liar. You didn’t want to take me home at all.”

“So what if you’re young? Does being young mean you can act recklessly? Does being young mean you can break your word?”

“You really are...”

A complete and utter liar.
