Volume 1 Chapter 2: Borrowing a Husband to Have a Child
Idiot No. 2.
He is the young master of the Su family, Su Tongan.
Also one of Shen Zhizhi’s admirers.
Su Tongan is a sophomore this year, with an overly pretty baby face.
He is very good at acting spoiled, his voice both delicate and pitiful, making people feel as if they’re looking at a sick Samoyed, unable to resist the urge to pet him.
Unfortunately, his charms were wasted on the blind.
Ruan Wan’s persona is that of a dull, straightforward woman.
Unaware of his flirtatious intentions, she replied:
“Sorry, my husband is drunk, I need to take care of him.”
“If your stomach is upset, you can go to the hospital. Do you need me to call an ambulance for you?”
Above the chat box, it showed “The other party is typing.”
After a while, Su Tongan sent another voice message.
“Sister, I really feel terrible. I want to eat the food you make. I can pay you double… no, ten times the price.”
As he spoke, he transferred a sum of money to her.
Not much, just a hundred thousand.
“Well, alright then.” Ruan Wan’s reply sounded reluctant.
But her actions were quite swift.
She poured the hangover soup she had prepared for her husband, Li Minglan, into a thermal container, then added ingredients like coptis, gentian, and sophora flavescens into the soup. The bitter scent grew more pronounced with the rising steam.
She smiled and walked out of the kitchen.
—“Where are you going so late?”
A low, cold voice rang out.
Standing in the living room of the villa was a tall figure, the dim yellow light illuminating his sharp brows and eyes.
It was her husband, Li Minglan.
The man’s gaze fixed on the thermal lunchbox in Ruan Wan’s hand, his brow furrowed.
Ruan Wan answered truthfully, “I’m going to see a younger brother. He’s not feeling well and wants me to check on him. Do you want to come along?”
Li Minglan snorted with a mocking tone.
“Younger brother?”
“Fine, bring him to meet me someday. I’ll help you size him up.”
Seeing his attitude, Ruan Wan knew he didn’t believe her again.
The atmosphere grew somewhat silent.
Li Minglan rubbed his aching temples, his voice hoarse from drinking. “Old Master Li’s seventieth birthday is in a week. I’ll cooperate with you to act like a loving couple—but don’t actually think I’ll ever like you.”
Ruan Wan assured him, “Don’t worry, I don’t like you either.”
Li Minglan snorted coldly but said nothing.
Doesn’t like him? Then who was the one who drugged him back then?
Too lazy to expose Ruan Wan, his gaze swept over her flat abdomen, and he said mockingly, “It’s been three months. Why isn’t your belly showing yet? Old Master Li is waiting to hold his grandson. You know, if Grandpa finds out he’s been deceived, he’s capable of anything.”
With that, he curled his thin lips into a cold smile and returned to the bedroom to rest.
Ruan Wan’s fingers froze, and cold sweat broke out on her forehead.
How could she have forgotten about this?
Three months ago, her father had schemed against Li Minglan, drugging his drink and forging a pregnancy ultrasound to force a marriage with the Li family.
Old Master Li was overjoyed and finalized the marriage, declaring that the child in Ruan Wan’s womb would be the future heir of the Li family.
But Li Minglan wasn’t foolish.
He knew whether he had ever touched Ruan Wan or not.
The reason he hadn’t exposed her was because he had his own motives.
First, he needed a woman to marry to provoke his white moonlight, Shen Zhizhi, who was abroad.
Second, to take revenge on Ruan Wan.
Li Minglan held grudges and was disgusted by Ruan Wan’s scheming.
As for Old Master Li, he was decisive and ruthless, with connections in both the legitimate and underworld circles. Even the mayor of Jiangcheng had to show him respect. He was a figure who could shake Jiangcheng with a single stomp.
Someone like him, if he found out he had been deceived, there would be no place for Ruan Wan in all of Jiangcheng.
Ruan Wan took a deep breath.
Regarding the pregnancy, Li Minglan would not cooperate with her, nor would he speak up on her behalf. He would be more than happy to see her lies exposed.
The evening breeze blew into the living room, and Ruan Wan wrapped her arms around herself.
It was a bit cold.
She had no one to rely on behind her; everything depended on herself.
After a moment of contemplation, Ruan Wan thought of another person in the Li family.
The eldest son of the Li family, Li Yuan, who died young in the book.
The idea of “borrowing a father to have a child” was too bold.
Especially when the target was Li Yuan.
Backed by the capital of the Capital Circle through his maternal family, he was the highly sought-after Crown Prince of the Capital Circle, a figure even the Li family patriarch feared.
If he hadn’t died young, the position of Li family heir would never have fallen to Li Minglan.
Theoretically, this was a reliable ally.
Ruan Wan decided to give it a try.
After all, he was the only person in the book who didn’t like the female lead, Shen Zhizhi.
She put down the insulated lunchbox in her hand, contacted a delivery service to send the spiked hangover soup to Su Tongan, and planned to spend the evening researching Li Yuan’s preferences.
Just as she was about to sit down, a plot point flashed into her mind.
Today was July 7th, her birthday.
And Li Yuan had died in the early hours of this morning in the collapse accident on the Jingjiang Expressway.
She glanced at the time displayed on her phone screen: 12:40 a.m.
And Li Yuan’s time of death was:
July 7th, 12:44 a.m.
A chill ran down Ruan Wan’s spine, her blood seeming to freeze. She felt a sense of helplessness, as if trapped in a vast cave, on the verge of finding an exit only to watch the only way out being blocked.
She rushed upstairs to ask Li Minglan for Li Yuan’s contact information.
But Li Minglan had taken sleeping pills and couldn’t be woken.
Ruan Wan grew anxious. She opened Li Minglan’s phone, but as it had just been turned on, she couldn’t use fingerprint or facial recognition to unlock it.
She tried many passwords, even Shen Zhizhi’s birthday, but still couldn’t unlock it.
Time ticked away.
In her panic, she didn’t even know what numbers she had entered, but coincidentally, the screen unlocked.
And the time had already reached 12:44 a.m.
After dialing the number saved as “Eldest Brother,” she skipped the pleasantries and spoke quickly and succinctly: “Li Yuan, stop the car!”
