Gao Yue was so frightened that her face turned deathly pale. She immediately fetched the first aid kit and apologized profusely, “Young Master Jiang, I’m so sorry, I—I didn’t realize it was you.”

She made a move to remove Jiang Song’s clothes.

Jiang Song frowned and brushed Gao Yue’s hand away, his gaze fixed intently on Ruan Wan. “You do it.”

Ruan Wan: “Oh.”

As the clothes were lifted, everyone gasped in unison.

It wasn’t because the burn was severe—on the contrary, Jiang Song was wearing an undershirt and hadn’t been scalded at all.

Everyone was simply astonished by the smooth, toned muscles of his back, which resembled those of an agile and graceful leopard.

Ruan Wan applied a layer of ointment to the spot where he had been scalded using a cotton swab.

Jiang Song lowered his gaze, catching a whiff of fragrance that drifted into his nose. He looked down at the red-eyed young woman before him, a faint smile curling at the corner of his lips. In a voice only the two of them could hear, he asked, “Worried about me?”

Ruan Wan shook her head.

Jiang Song: “Then why are your eyes red?”

Ruan Wan: “…”

Was it possible that her eye makeup today was in a pink-orange color palette?

But it didn’t matter if he misunderstood—it wasn’t a loss for her anyway.

Meanwhile, Gao Yue returned from the storeroom holding a brand-new outfit sent by the brand.

Seeing that Jiang Song didn’t seem angry or resentful, her anxious heart settled. She pushed Ruan Wan aside and said to Jiang Song with an apologetic smile, “Young Master Jiang, please change into this outfit first. I’ve already sent your shirt for dry cleaning.”

Jiang Song remained silent.

His gaze lingered on Ruan Wan, who had been pushed aside, and his expression darkened slightly.

Gao Yue remained oblivious. “You’re here to see Yu Ying, right? I’ll go call her over. She’s been waiting for you all along, but—”

Gao Yue paused, casting a disdainful glance at Ruan Wan.

“One of our colleagues boasted that she could invite you to shoot the magazine cover.”

“She doesn’t even know her place. Now that she’s been proven wrong, she’s making a scene. Just now, she even made the young lady of the Ruan family cry. I was so angry that I threw that cup of coffee, never expecting it would land on you.”

Jiang Song narrowed his eyes. “The young lady of the Ruan family? Who?”

Gao Yue was puzzled. “Don’t you know? Yu Ying is the young lady of the Ruan family.”

“Is that so?” Jiang Song chuckled, glancing at Ruan Wan.

Ruan Wan said nothing.

She lowered her head slightly, the sunlight shining directly on her plain face, casting a reddish-orange shadow from her long, thick eyelashes.

Jiang Song wasn’t angry—instead, he smiled.

The corners of his lips lifted slightly, his dark eyes fixed on Ruan Wan. “Indeed, I promised an interview with the young lady of the Ruan family. Where is she?”

Gao Yue beamed. “She’s in the conference room. I’ll take you there.”

“Alright.”

Jiang Song withdrew his gaze, not sparing Ruan Wan another glance.

After Jiang Song left, the office fell into complete silence.

Li Jing from the neighboring desk leaned over and whispered, “Guangguang, are you okay?”

Ruan Wan: “I’m fine.”

Li Jing sighed. “Gao Yue has been throwing her weight around for a long time now. Everyone knows it and looks down on her. Don’t take it to heart. Lin Yuying is a wealthy heiress—it’s no surprise she could invite Jiang Song. As the saying goes, we’ve only studied hard for ten years—how can we compare to three generations of their family’s efforts?”

Those words were truly harsh.

Even when spoken in a self-mocking tone, they carried a tinge of bitterness.

“Guangguang, don’t worry. Even though Lin Yuying snatched the cover interview this time and got promoted to deputy editor, she’s still a wealthy heiress who’s just here for fun. Once she leaves, the position will still be yours.”

Ruan Wan smiled faintly. “No, I’ll secure this issue’s cover.”

Li Jing perked up, leaning in to whisper, “Are you planning to steal Jiang Song away?”

Ruan Wan chuckled softly.

“What does Jiang Song have to do with it?”

“I have someone else in mind.”

As she spoke, she picked up her bag and stood, turning to Li Jing. “I’m going to visit the interview subject. On my way back, I’ll pass by the old town. Do you want some of her osmanthus cakes?”

Li Jing’s eyes lit up. “Yes, yes! I want three—no, five!”

Only after Ruan Wan had left did Li Jing slap her forehead.

“Oh no, I forgot to ask who she’s interviewing!”

An hour later.

Jiang Song finished the interview.

It hadn’t gone well. Lin Yuying was on the verge of tears.

He was too harsh—Jiang Song was truly too harsh.

Especially when he frowned and said, “What kind of nonsense questions are these?” He hadn’t spared Lin Yuying any face at all.

Fortunately, only the two of them were present during the interview.

Stepping out of the interview room, Lin Yuying forced a smile, pretending to be relaxed.

Gao Yue approached with a cup of coffee. “Mr. Jiang, the interview ended so quickly? This is from a newly opened trendy café nearby. I specially queued up to buy it—”

Jiang Song waved her off impatiently, pointing at Ruan Wan’s empty workstation. “Where is she?”

Gao Yue was taken aback but quickly replied, “Right, where did Ruan Wan go? She spilled coffee all over you, Mr. Jiang, and didn’t even apologize. How rude.”

Li Jing couldn’t take it anymore and muttered, “It was clearly you who spilled the coffee. Why blame Guangguang?”

Gao Yue glared wide-eyed.

“Alright, we’re all colleagues. Let’s keep the peace.” Lin Yuying stepped forward, smiling warmly. “Mr. Jiang, I’ve reserved a private dining room. We can discuss the follow-up shoot and interview in detail.”

“No need.” Jiang Song was irritable. “Editor Lin’s professionalism is questionable. If this is the standard at KVI Fashion, then this interview is unnecessary.”

Lin Yuying froze instantly.

Everyone else gasped in shock.

Publicly calling Lin Yuying unprofessional—Jiang Song hadn’t intended to spare her any dignity at all. It was utterly humiliating!

Jiang Song turned and left.

As he passed Ruan Wan’s workstation, he slowed his pace.

He spotted a Capybara keychain lying quietly on the desk—dopey and silly-looking.

Jiang Song casually picked it up and tucked it into his jacket pocket. Before leaving, he said to Li Jing, “When Ruan Wan returns, tell her to come get it from me. She invited me here, then disappeared. Quite impressive.”

The office fell so silent you could hear a pin drop.

Once Jiang Song was gone, the room erupted in sharp, collective gasps.
