The familiar skyline welcomed us home.
Towering glass buildings shimmered beneath the evening sky, thousands of windows glowing like stars that had settled onto the city instead of the heavens.
The underground parking garage was unusually quiet, our footsteps echoing softly as we made our way toward the private elevator.
Neither of us felt the need to rush.
For the first time all day…
We weren’t on anyone’s schedule but our own.
The elevator doors slid open with a gentle chime.
We rode up in comfortable silence, our hands still intertwined.
Every now and then, Timothy would glance toward me, almost as if he was reassuring himself that I was really there.
That today was finally over.
When the elevator opened onto our floor, I smiled.
“Home.” He smiled back.
“Finally.” We stepped into the hallway, the soft lighting casting warm pools of gold across the polished floor.
I had barely taken two steps toward our apartment door when I heard movement behind me.
Before I could even turn— “Timothy!” A surprised laugh escaped me as the ground disappeared beneath my feet.
With effortless ease, he swept me into his arms.
One arm supported my legs while the other held me securely against his chest.
I’d been carried like this countless times over the years.
Sometimes after long premieres when my feet hurt from impossible heels.
Sometimes after movie nights when I’d accidentally fallen asleep on the sofa.
Sometimes…
For absolutely no reason at all.
I laughed again, instinctively wrapping an arm around his shoulders.
“What’s gotten into you?” He didn’t answer immediately.
Instead, he simply looked at me.
Really looked.
The strain that had lingered around his eyes since morning had finally begun to fade, replaced by something infinitely softer.
Relief.
Gratitude.
Love.
Without a word, he leaned forward and pressed a lingering kiss against my forehead.
It wasn’t hurried.
It wasn’t dramatic.
Just warm.
Comforting.
When he finally spoke, his voice was almost a whisper.
“…I just missed holding my wife.” The sincerity in those six words squeezed at my heart.
All day we’d been surrounded by people.
Directors.
Crew.
Actors.
Assistants.
Producers.
Hundreds of conversations.
Hundreds of expectations.
And yet…
The thing he’d missed most was something as simple as holding me.
I rested my hand against his chest, feeling the steady rhythm of his heartbeat beneath the fabric of his shirt.
A playful smile found its way onto my face.
“Oh?” I tilted my head slightly.
“So that’s what this is?” He raised an eyebrow.
“What?” I couldn’t resist teasing him.
“So…” My smile widened.
“Are you finally going to show me what real intimacy looks like, Mr.
Zion?” A laugh escaped him.
The rich, genuine laugh I’d been waiting to hear all day.
“The one that doesn’t involve scripts,” I continued with a grin.
“Or directors.” “Or someone yelling ‘Cut’ every five minutes.” He shook his head, smiling despite himself.
“I think I can manage that.” I leaned down and kissed him.
Softly.
Not to erase the day.
Not to compete with a scene from a film.
Simply because I wanted to.
He returned the kiss immediately, his embrace tightening just enough to make me feel impossibly safe.
There was no performance here.
No carefully rehearsed choreography.
No cameras waiting to capture the perfect angle.
Just two people who had spent an entire day pretending emotions for strangers…
Finally allowed to be honest with each other.
When the kiss ended, we remained close, our foreheads resting together.
“I love you,” Timothy murmured.
The words came so naturally that I wondered if he’d been holding them back since morning.
I smiled.
“I know.” Then, after a beat— “I love you too.” His eyes closed briefly, the tension leaving him in one long, quiet breath.
Still carrying me, he reached into his pocket for his keys.
“You know,” I said with an amused smile as he tried to unlock the door one-handed, “this would be significantly easier if you put me down.” “I know.” “But?” “I don’t want to.” I laughed.
“You’re impossible.” “So I’ve been told.” After a second attempt, the key finally slipped into the lock.
The apartment door swung open.
Warm light greeted us, along with the familiar comfort of home.
No scripts waited on the kitchen counter.
No production assistants.
No cameras.
No expectations.
Just the quiet space we’d built together over the years.
Timothy nudged the door closed with his foot before finally setting me gently back on my feet inside the entryway.
For a moment, neither of us moved.
The silence wasn’t empty.
It was peaceful.
Healing.
Outside, the city continued to buzz with late-night traffic and flashing lights.
Inside…
The long filming day was finally over.
Whatever tomorrow’s call sheet demanded, whatever scenes still remained to be filmed, they could wait until morning.
Tonight belonged only to us.
