The closer we moved toward the entrance, the slower our pace became.

Not because Timothy wanted the attention.

Because everyone wanted a moment with him.Full novel: Behind The Camera, Beside My Heart | FIRST DRAFT (FOR FEEDBACKS) — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Producers.

Directors.

Studio executives.

Fellow actors.

Every few steps, someone called his name.

“Timothy!” He turned with the same warm smile every single time.

Never rushed.

Never impatient.

Never pretending to remember people.

If he knew them, he greeted them by name.

If he didn’t, he introduced himself anyway.

Watching him navigate the crowd was fascinating.

There was no arrogance.

No inflated ego.

He carried himself with confidence, certainly, but there was also an unmistakable humility that made people comfortable around him.

I suddenly understood why directors loved working with him.

He wasn’t just talented.

He was easy to trust.

— “Tim!” A cheerful voice called from behind us.

Timothy turned immediately, smiling.

“Daniel.” A man in his late forties approached with open arms, wearing a tailored navy tuxedo and the relaxed confidence of someone who had spent decades in Hollywood.

The two embraced warmly.

“It’s been too long.” “Six months.” “Too long.” Daniel laughed before finally noticing me.

“And who’s this?” Timothy looked toward me.

“This is Lauria.” “Our newest assistant talent manager.” I offered a polite handshake.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you, sir.” Daniel shook my hand with an easy smile.

“No need for ‘sir.'” “I’m old enough already.” I couldn’t help laughing.

He looked back at Timothy.

“You’ve been talking about her.” I blinked.

“…He has?” Timothy looked mildly embarrassed.

“Daniel…” “What?” The older director grinned mischievously.

“You’ve mentioned how organized she is at least five times.” Timothy rubbed the back of his neck.

“She is.” Daniel looked at me again.

“Then congratulations.” “For what?” “For surviving him.” Timothy sighed dramatically.

“I’m standing right here.” “I know.” Daniel laughed.

“That’s why it’s funny.” All three of us laughed together.

It was…

Normal.

Not glamorous.

Not celebrity-like.

Just three people talking.

— As Daniel disappeared toward another group of filmmakers, another familiar face approached.

This time…

A woman.

Elegant.

Confident.

Probably in her early forties.

She wore a champagne-colored evening gown that shimmered beneath the lights.

“Timothy.” Her smile was genuine.

“Amanda.” They hugged briefly.

Amanda Harper.

Even I recognized her.

She had won two Academy Awards and was considered one of the finest actresses of her generation.

“You look exhausted.” Timothy chuckled.

“Is it that obvious?” “Only to people who know you.” She glanced toward me.

“And this lovely lady?” Before Timothy could answer, Clara stepped beside us.

“Lauria.” “My assistant.” Amanda smiled warmly.

“So you’re the one.” I blinked again.

“The one?” Amanda nodded.

“I’ve heard wonderful things.” I looked at Timothy.

He suddenly found the red carpet very interesting.

Heat rose to my cheeks.

What exactly had he been telling people?

— The theater lobby was breathtaking.

Crystal chandeliers hung from impossibly high ceilings.

Walls of polished marble reflected the warm golden lighting.

Large banners displaying ECLIPSE stretched across both sides of the entrance.

Guests mingled while photographers continued capturing candid moments inside.

A string quartet quietly played classical arrangements of famous movie soundtracks in one corner.

Waiters moved gracefully through the crowd carrying silver trays filled with sparkling drinks and delicate hors d’oeuvres.

Everything looked…

Perfect.

Almost unreal.

“This way.” Clara guided us toward the VIP reception area.

Everywhere I looked, I recognized faces from magazines and movie posters.

Oscar winners.

Legendary directors.

World-famous composers.

People whose work had inspired me throughout college.

And somehow…

I was standing among them.

— A young waiter approached with a tray.

“Champagne?” I instinctively reached for a glass.

Then stopped.

I still had work responsibilities tonight.

Timothy noticed.

He quietly took a glass of sparkling water instead.

“So do we.” He smiled.

“Tomorrow’s an early morning.” The waiter nodded before moving on.

I looked at Timothy.

“You noticed.” “You hesitated.” “I wasn’t sure.” He shrugged lightly.

“Good managers stay sharp.” Simple.

Practical.

Without making a scene, he’d made sure neither of us felt awkward.

— “Ladies and gentlemen…” A microphone echoed through the ballroom.

Everyone gradually turned toward the stage.

The CEO of Zion Entertainment stepped beneath the spotlight.

“Thank you all for joining us tonight.” Polite applause followed.

“This film represents three years of extraordinary dedication from hundreds of artists.” Images from behind the scenes appeared on giant screens surrounding the ballroom.

Construction crews building elaborate sets.

Costume designers stitching garments by hand.

Camera operators filming beneath freezing rain.

Editors working late into the night.

The audience applauded each image.

Because movies weren’t made by stars alone.

They were built by thousands of invisible hands.

I felt a quiet sense of pride.

I had become one of those hands.

Maybe only a tiny one.

But one nonetheless.

— “Before we begin the screening…” The CEO smiled toward Timothy.

“I’d like to invite our leading actor to say a few words.” Thunderous applause erupted.

Timothy sighed softly.

“Here we go.” I smiled.

“Nervous?” “A little.” “You?” He looked genuinely surprised.

“You get nervous?” “Every time.” I couldn’t help laughing.

“I never would’ve guessed.” He smiled.

“I’ve gotten better at hiding it.” As he walked toward the stage, every eye in the ballroom followed him.

He stood beneath the spotlight for a moment before speaking.

“Good evening.” The room immediately became silent.

He wasn’t loud.

He didn’t need to be.

“When people watch a film…” “They usually see two hours.” He looked around the room.

“We see three years.” A soft ripple of laughter spread through the audience.

“They see finished scenes.” “We remember twenty takes.” “They see beautiful sunsets.” “We remember waking up at four in the morning.” More laughter.

Then…

His expression softened.

“But every difficult day becomes worth it…” “When audiences connect with a story.” He turned slightly toward the crew seated throughout the ballroom.

“This film belongs to every person who gave their heart to it.” He smiled warmly.

“I’m simply lucky enough to be the face people recognize.” For several seconds…

Nobody moved.

Then…

The entire ballroom rose to its feet.

A standing ovation.

Not because he was famous.

Because every word had been true.

Standing beside Clara, I applauded with everyone else.

As Timothy looked across the audience…

For the briefest moment…

His eyes found mine.

He smiled.

A small, grateful smile.

One that seemed to say…

“We made it.” And somehow…

I found myself smiling back.

Because, without realizing it…

This incredible journey had only just begun.
