Rain hammered against the tall glass windows of the hotel as thunder rolled across the evening sky.

Lily stood quietly in the lobby, still trying to process what the receptionist had just said.

Only one room remained.Full novel: Beneath His Walls — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

An executive suite.

She looked at Damian.

“I’m sure there must be another hotel.”

Damian checked his phone.

“I’ve already asked.”

He sighed.

“Because of the storm, every nearby hotel is fully booked.”

Lily bit her lower lip.

“This is going to look very unprofessional.”

Damian looked at her calmly.

“Nothing inappropriate is happening.”

“We’re simply waiting for the weather to improve.”

His steady tone eased some of her anxiety.

“Let’s go.”

The Executive Suite

The suite was elegant and spacious.

A sitting room overlooked the rain-soaked city.

A dining table stood near the windows, and a fireplace added warmth to the luxurious space.

Then Lily noticed the bedroom.

She froze.

There was one king-size bed.

She looked at Damian.

He looked at the bed.

Then back at her.

Without saying a word, he picked up a pillow and a blanket.

“I’ll sleep on the sofa.”

Lily shook her head immediately.

“No, sir.”

“It’s my responsibility.”

“It isn’t.”

“I can sleep on the sofa.”

Damian folded his arms.

“You’ve had a long day.”

“So have you.”

They stared at each other for a moment.

Finally, Damian smiled faintly.

“We’re doing it again.”

“What?”

“Arguing.”

Lily laughed softly.

“I thought we were negotiating.”

A genuine smile appeared on Damian’s face.

“Fair enough.”

After a moment, they reached a simple compromise.

The bed was large enough to be divided, and they would each keep to their own side with clear boundaries.

It wasn’t ideal, but it was the most practical solution under the circumstances. This chapter was copied from g.com without permission.

A Different Side of Damian

Later that evening, room service arrived.

As they ate dinner together, the conversation slowly became less formal.

Lily looked around the room.

“You travel a lot?”

“Too much.”

“Do you enjoy it?”

Damian took a sip of water.

“It depends.”

“On what?”

“The reason for traveling.”

She smiled.

“And this trip?”

“It’s important for the company.”

He paused.

“But…”

She waited.

“It’s been easier than most.”

Lily raised an eyebrow.

“Because the meetings haven’t started?”

A small laugh escaped him.

“No.”

He looked at her.

“Because the company has been better.”

For a second, Lily forgot to breathe.

Was that…

a compliment?

She smiled.

“Thank you.”

The Conversation

After dinner, rain continued falling outside.

The electricity flickered for a second before stabilizing.

Lily sat near the window watching the storm.

“It reminds me of home.”

Damian looked up from the report he had been reading.

“You like the rain?”

“My father did.”

Her voice softened.

“He used to say rain washes away yesterday’s worries.”

She smiled sadly.

“I still believe him.”

Damian closed the file.

“My parents died when I was twenty.”

Lily looked at him in surprise.

“You’ve never told anyone that at work.”

“I don’t.”

Silence filled the room.

“I’m sorry.”

“So am I.”

He looked out the window.

“My grandmother raised me after that.”

“That’s why you’re so close.”

He nodded.

“She’s all the family I have left.”

Lily’s eyes softened.

“No…”

She said gently.

“You still have people who care about you.”

Damian looked at her.

For the first time in years… This chapter was taken from novelping.com without permission.

Someone had spoken to him without fear.

Without expecting anything in return.

A Midnight Emergency

At around midnight, Damian’s phone rang.

He answered immediately.

“What happened?”

His face changed.

“Is she conscious?”

Lily’s heart sank.

It was the hospital.

Eleanor had developed complications.

Although the doctors assured him they were treating her, Damian was shaken.

He lowered the phone slowly after the call ended.

Lily stepped closer.

“Is your grandmother okay?”

“They’re treating her.”

He rubbed a hand across his forehead.

“I hate being so far away.”

Without thinking, Lily placed a gentle hand on his arm.

“I’m sure she’s in good hands.”

He looked at her.

“I hope so.”

For a long moment, neither of them spoke.

The storm outside seemed quieter now.

Finally, Damian said, “Thank you.”

“For what?”

“For being here.”

Lily gave him a reassuring smile.

“You don’t have to carry every burden alone.”

Those words stayed with him.

He had spent years convincing himself that strength meant facing everything by himself.

Yet tonight, with Lily beside him, the weight on his shoulders felt a little lighter.

Elsewhere…

Victoria sat in her penthouse apartment, reading a report that had just arrived.

Her assistant stood nearby.

“They’re still at the hotel.”

Victoria smiled.

“Good.”

“They were forced to stay overnight because of the weather.”

She tapped her fingers lightly against the table.

“And tomorrow?”

“They’ll continue to the meeting.”

Victoria’s smile slowly faded into something colder.

“That’s fine.”

She stood and walked toward the window.

“If I can’t stop them from reaching the meeting…”

“I’ll make sure the meeting becomes a disaster.”

Lightning flashed across the night sky.

Far away, Damian and Lily had no idea that someone was quietly planning to ruin both the business deal…

and the growing trust between them.
