The drive to St.
Victoria Hospital was silent.
Rain began falling again, tapping steadily against the windshield as Damian drove through the city.
Lily sat in the passenger seat, clutching her handbag tightly.
She wanted to say something.
Anything.
But she knew there were moments when silence spoke louder than words.
Damian’s eyes never left the road.
His jaw was clenched.
His grip on the steering wheel tightened every time the traffic slowed.
“Please…” he whispered under his breath.
Lily turned to look at him.
It was the first time she had seen genuine fear in his eyes.
Not the fear of losing a business deal.
Not the fear of failure.
The fear of losing someone he loved.
Quietly, she reached over and placed her hand gently over his clenched fist.
“You’ll get there.”
He looked at her briefly before returning his attention to the road.
He didn’t pull his hand away.
Instead, he gave a small nod.
“Thank you.”
The Hospital
The moment they arrived, Damian hurried toward the private wing.
Nurses greeted him before leading him to Eleanor’s room.
Outside the door stood her doctor, Dr. Samuel Grant.
“Mr. Wayne.”
“How is she?”
Dr. Grant sighed.
“She suffered another cardiac episode.”
“But she’s stable now.”
Relief flooded Damian’s face.
“Can I see her?”
“Yes.”
“But don’t tire her.”
Damian nodded.
He turned to Lily.
“You don’t have to wait.”
She smiled softly.
“I’d like to.”
He held her gaze for a moment.
Then quietly entered the room.
Eleanor’s Request
Eleanor looked weak.
The cheerful sparkle in her eyes had faded, but when she saw Damian, she smiled.
“There you are.”
“You scared me.”
She chuckled softly.
“I suppose I did.”
He shook his head.
“You need to stop doing that.”
“My dear…”
She squeezed his hand.
“No one chooses when their body becomes tired.”
He lowered his eyes.
“I know.”
After a few moments, Eleanor looked toward the doorway.
“Is Lily here?”
Damian looked surprised.
“Yes.”
“Bring her in.”
A nurse invited Lily inside.
She walked quietly to Eleanor’s bedside.
“Hello.”
Eleanor smiled warmly.
“My beautiful girl.”
Lily smiled.
“How are you feeling?”
“I’ll be fine.”
She looked from Lily to Damian.
“I’ve been thinking.”
Damian frowned.
“About what?”
“My family.”
The room became quiet.
Eleanor spoke slowly.
“I don’t know how much time I have left.”
“Grandmother…”
“Let me finish.”
She reached for both of their hands.
To Lily’s surprise, Eleanor placed Damian’s hand in hers.
Then she gently wrapped her own hands around theirs.
“I’ve watched both of you.”
“You bring peace into each other’s lives.”
Lily immediately looked embarrassed.
“Ma’am…”
Eleanor smiled.
“I’m old.”
“I’m not blind.”
Damian sighed.
“Grandmother…”
“I only want one promise.”
He looked at her.
“If life becomes difficult…”
She glanced at Lily.
“…don’t push away the people who truly care about you.”
Damian looked at Lily for a brief moment before answering.
“I promise.”
Eleanor smiled peacefully.
“And Lily.”
“Yes?”
“Don’t let him hide behind those walls forever.”
Lily looked at Damian.
Their eyes met.
She smiled softly.
“I’ll try.”
A New Threat
The next morning, Lily arrived at Wayne Corporation earlier than usual.
She was surprised to find Marcus Reed waiting outside her office.
“Good morning.”
“Morning.”
His expression was serious.
“We have a problem.”
“What happened?”
He handed her a newspaper.
Across the front page was a large photograph.
It showed Lily holding Damian’s hand beside his car outside the hospital.
The headline read:
‘CEO’S SECRET ROMANCE GROWS STRONGER AFTER LATE-NIGHT HOSPITAL VISIT.’
Lily’s heart sank.
“This isn’t true.”
“I know.”
Marcus lowered his voice. Follow the newest chapters on g.com.
“Someone has been following you.”
Before Lily could respond, Damian walked into the office.
He took one look at the newspaper.
His face darkened.
“Who published this?”
Marcus answered quietly.
“We’re investigating.”
Damian placed the newspaper on his desk.
“This ends today.”
Victoria’s Plan
At that same moment, Victoria sat inside her penthouse, sipping coffee while scrolling through the headlines.
Her assistant smiled.
“The story is everywhere.”
Victoria looked pleased.
“Good.”
“The board will start questioning Lily soon.”
Her assistant hesitated.
“And if that doesn’t work?”
Victoria’s smile disappeared.
“Then we move to the next phase.”
She opened a folder.
Inside were copies of Lily’s employee records, photographs, and travel schedules.
She slid the folder across the table.
“I want every detail of her life.”
“I don’t care how you get it.”
Her assistant nodded.
“Understood.”
As the door closed, Victoria whispered to herself,
“Soon, Lily Carter…”
“…you’ll realize that loving Damian Wayne comes with a price.”
A Quiet Moment
Late that evening, after another exhausting day, Lily remained alone in the office finishing reports.
The executive floor was almost empty.
She rubbed her tired eyes.
“I should go home.”
Just then, Damian appeared at her desk carrying two cups of coffee.
“I thought you might need this.”
She looked up in surprise.
“You remembered I like coffee?”
“You’ve been working for four hours without a break.”
He handed her one of the cups.
She smiled.
“Thank you.”
He leaned lightly against her desk.
“You’ve been through a lot lately.”
“So have you.”
A comfortable silence settled between them.
Then Damian spoke quietly.
“I meant what I said.”
“What?”
“You’re not facing this alone.”
Lily looked into his eyes.
For the first time since joining Wayne Corporation…
She believed him.
And somewhere beyond the office walls…
Someone had just photographed them through the glass windows.
The camera clicked once.
Twice.
Three times.
The pictures would soon become another weapon in a game neither Damian nor Lily knew was growing more dangerous.
