Was she supposed to wait until the two of them had children? Could Lin Wanqing really count on Song Huixin to wait on her hand and foot?

“If you have something to say, you can say it right here.” Lin Wanqing stood her ground, her voice flat.

“You—fine! We’ll talk when Chongli gets back.” Wang Chunyan was determined to file a proper complaint when her son returned. She refused to believe that the two of them together couldn’t handle a Lin Wanqing.Full novel: Best Friends Transmigrate to the Era, Mistake Husband After Following the Army — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“Are you done? Then get out!” Song Huixin shooed her out directly, retracting what she had thought yesterday.

Wanqing’s future mother-in-law was clearly not someone easy to deal with! But that was fine—the two of them could join forces.

“No need to bother with someone like her. Her greatest skill is tattling to her own son. You need to see what Shen Chongli’s stance is.”

Song Huixin let out a light snort. “If he sides with his own mother, then that means he’s a mama’s boy! A man like that is absolutely off the table. If he sides with you, then the two of you can go get your marriage certificate.”

Lin Wanqing thought of the man—he didn’t seem like a mama’s boy at all.

Their household registrations were supposed to be transferred along with the marriage certificate, and they were still in the capital for now.

Lin Wanqing had no identification documents whatsoever. The college entrance exam was still two months away, so time should be manageable.

They spent the morning at home doing nothing, planning to go out for a stroll before lunch.

Wang Chunyan watched helplessly from the kitchen as the two of them left, stewing in her own frustration.

Sure enough, both of them were capitalist misses through and through—birds of a feather flock together!

…

Su City’s economy wasn’t developing as fast as the capital’s, and the money in Lin Wanqing’s pocket was still what the man had given her.

They found a random noodle shop for lunch. Song Huixin ordered the extra-spicy pork tripe noodles, while Lin Wanqing got the bone broth noodles.

The two chose seats by the window. Song Huixin looked around left and right, curious about everything.

“The air down south is so moist—my face doesn’t even feel dry.” Song Huixin said, instinctively touching her face. The weather was nice today, which lifted her spirits along with it.

“It is nice.”

Lin Wanqing gave a slight nod, agreeing with her best friend.

The two of them didn’t look like they were here seeking refuge—more like they were on vacation.

“Ah, it’s just a shame about my ten-figure savings.” Song Huixin felt a pang of heartache just thinking about it. After all those years as a top-tier workhorse in the entertainment industry, she’d originally planned to earn money and retire to enjoy life. Now everything was reset to zero, starting from scratch.

“Yeah, and my pharmaceutical project that was almost done.” It had been on the verge of clinical trials and market release. Lin Wanqing let out a sigh.

But looking on the bright side, at least the two of them were still together.

Even transmigrating into a book hadn’t separated them.

“Enough about that,” Song Huixin waved her hand. Their noodles arrived at the table just then, the aroma wafting over and making their stomachs growl with hunger.

“Not bad.” For a randomly chosen noodle shop, it was actually pretty good. Lin Wanqing found it delicious.

“Hey there, pretty comrades—no one keeping you company? Mind if we sit down?”

Just as they were enjoying their meal, some clueless troublemakers came to interrupt.

Lin Wanqing lifted her eyelids. Two men stood there looking sleazy—greased-back hair, frog-style sunglasses, the very picture of shiftlessness in this era.

“Scram!”

Lin Wanqing spat out two cold words. The two men froze for a moment, then laughed at each other. Well, well—didn’t expect this girl to have some fire! They liked her even more!

“Little sister, do you know who I am?” The man who sat down right next to Lin Wanqing propped his chin on his hand, sizing her up with interest. Up close, she seemed even prettier.

“What does who you are have to do with us?” Song Huixin shot back impatiently. “Get lost!”

If the two of them had been handsome, it might’ve been one thing—but they were ugly as sin and still trying to hit on people.

They were clearly just trying to disgust them.

Song Huixin rolled her eyes dramatically. They even reeked of stale cigarette smoke. Disgusting men, indeed!

“Ahem.” The man cleared his throat with fake importance, straightened his back, and announced himself. “If you don’t know, that’s fine—let me tell you. My aunt is the wife of the director of our city’s cotton textile factory.”

Wang Xiangdong thought that dropping this name would scare them into obediently dating him.

Everyone in the whole city knew the reputation of the cotton textile factory!

His aunt had married well—not only was her husband capable, but her in-laws were impressive too.

Her father-in-law was a retired senior officer from the military region, and her brother-in-law was the current regiment commander in the military region—a man with boundless prospects.

Even her son was working as a scientific researcher in the military region. The whole family were big shots.

“Heh heh, you know now, right?” Wang Xiangdong raised an eyebrow, leering at Lin Wanqing. “I’ve taken a liking to you. As long as you date me, I can give you anything you want. You could walk sideways through Su City from now on!”

“Is that so? Wow, you must be so impressive~” Song Huixin deliberately exaggerated her tone, then turned to look at the man sitting beside her. “What about you? Is your aunt the factory director’s wife too?”

“I’m not—I—” Li Yaohua didn’t have as good a background as Wang Xiangdong, but his father was a workshop supervisor at the cotton textile factory. He only got halfway through his sentence before being cut off.

“You’re not? Then why are you still sitting here? A woman like her is being pursued by such an outstanding man, and I’m no less attractive than she is—I’m definitely going to find someone even better!”

Lin Wanqing: “…” Others might not know what kind of person her best friend truly was, but she knew her all too well.

Song Huixin was clearly in the mood to have some fun toying with them.

With that thought, a hint of indulgent amusement flickered in Lin Wanqing’s eyes.

Li Yaohua and Wang Xiangdong were usually thick as thieves, calling each other brothers, sharing blessings and hardships alike.

Now that he was suddenly being looked down upon, Li Yaohua’s pride was a bit hard to swallow.

“Pfft-hahaha!” Wang Xiangdong couldn’t hold back a laugh, and Li Yaohua’s face turned completely black.

“Yaohua, I think the girl never had her eye on you in the first place. Why don’t you go wait outside? Don’t hold things up for me here.”

His male ego getting the better of him, Li Yaohua clenched his fists, his voice practically squeezed out from between his molars. “Wang Xiangdong, don’t get too cocky here. She didn’t take a liking to me, but that doesn’t mean she’s taken a liking to you either!”

Seeing that he was about to throw hands, Wang Xiangdong shot up from his seat in defiance, reaching out to grab Li Yaohua by the collar. “You looking to die or what?”

“I think it’s you who’s looking to die!”

Li Yaohua wasn’t about to lose face in front of a beautiful woman, so he struck first.

The two of them tumbled into a brawl, trading punch for punch.

“Ooh, impressive! Go, go!”

“…” Song Huixin fanned the flames from the sidelines while Lin Wanqing watched the noodles in her bowl go completely mushy.

Neither of them would back down, and in the end, they had to be pulled apart by others.

Their chests heaved with ragged breaths, like two roosters that hadn’t yet been defeated.

“How fun~” Song Huixin let out a light snicker, clapping her hands in applause.

Lin Wanqing swept a cold, indifferent glance over the two of them. Getting into a fight over just a few words—how stupid could they be?

Li Yaohua and Wang Xiangdong, meanwhile, finally caught on to what had really happened.

They’d been played.

“Get lost!” Wang Xiangdong had never suffered such humiliation in his entire life. He shoved aside the people trying to mediate, pointing furiously at Song Huixin. “You did that on purpose!”
