Ding dong.

As the elevator arrived, Song Guantang faintly heard the name “Meng Tang.”

Glancing toward the lobby out of the corner of his eye, a senior executive beside him, noticing his stillness, reminded him, “Mr. Song, the elevator is here.”Full novel: Bestie Turns Foe? Marry the Villain, She Runs, I Run Too. — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Song Guantang gave an acknowledging hum, his expression unchanged as he strode into the elevator with his long legs.

A waiter knocked and entered.

“Excuse me, Miss Meng, this is the 1982 Lafite you ordered. Would you like it opened now?”

The mention of 1982 Lafite brought a momentary hush over the drinking party.

Meng Tang was stunned.

Tong Tong was so shocked her jaw nearly hit the floor. “T-Tang… Tang Jie, when did you order such an expensive red wine? This… this one bottle must cost dozens of times more than this whole table of dishes, right?”

Although Tong Tong loved reading domineering CEO novels, scenes like casually opening a bottle of 1982 Lafite only happened in fictional worlds!

Not to mention others, even Meng Tang herself was bewildered. While at Cloud Peak Mansion, Song Guantang had an entire cellar filled with wines worth hundreds of thousands, even millions.

But her extravagance was limited to Cloud Peak Mansion; after all, she was spending her plastic husband’s money without a hint of heartache.

Outside, however, her identity was that of a working stiff—a diligent, hardworking employee who even had to get company reimbursement for meals. How could she possibly order a fifty- or sixty-thousand-yuan bottle of red wine?

If the company’s finance department found out, they’d probably rush over to fight her.

But out of the corner of her eye, Meng Tang saw Assistant Zhou passing by the door.

Assistant Zhou smiled and nodded at her before heading upstairs.

Meng Tang instantly understood: this bottle was ordered for her by Song Guantang.

It just goes to show that a husband should be rich. Although her marital relationship with Song Guantang was purely plastic, when they crossed paths outside, her plastic husband knew how to save face for her.

After all, her face was also Song Guantang’s face.

Still, she found it somewhat amusing because her deal had already been successfully negotiated, and she didn’t really need this bottle of red wine from Song Guantang.

“Please package it up for me.”

Regaining her composure, Meng Tang instructed the waiter before turning to Manager Sun. “I know you’re a connoisseur, Manager Sun. This bottle is a personal gift from me to you as a token of appreciation.”

“I hope our cooperation will be long-lasting. If you’d be so kind, please introduce me to a few more investors. I’ll do my best to find even better wines for you to try.”

A wine worth tens of thousands shouldn’t go to waste; it had to be utilized to its fullest potential.

Drinking it directly at the table would mean it’d be forgotten after a trip to the restroom.

But if she presented it as a personal gift, paid for out of her own pocket specifically for Manager Sun, the significance would be entirely different.

Sure enough, Manager Sun was so moved he could barely speak clearly.

“G-Good! Xiao Meng, not only do you drink with gusto, but you’re also more generous than most. I, Old Sun, consider you a friend! For future collaborations, Haihui will come to you first.”

“I’m not boasting, but while I, Old Sun, may not have much else, I have plenty of friends in the circle. If you ever run into any investment troubles in the future, just give me a call!”

Meng Tang smiled warmly and raised her glass again. “Manager Sun, you’re truly magnanimous. It’s settled then. Let me propose another toast to you.”

And so, Manager Sun, thoroughly satisfied from drinking, ended up being helped out the door by his secretary.Even though her steps were unsteady, she held firmly onto that bottle of 1982 Lafite.

“Take care, Manager Sun.”

Meng Tang saw him to the car, and Manager Sun even leaned out the window to wave.

“The funds will be in place tomorrow, Xiao Meng. Let’s have another drink when you have time!”

As soon as Manager Sun’s car drove away, Meng Tang let out a sigh of relief, stumbling slightly and nearly losing her balance.

Fortunately, Tong Tong was quick to react and caught her. “Are you okay, Tang Jie? You drank quite a bit at the dinner too. Let me take you home?”

Compared to Manager Sun, Meng Tang hadn’t drunk much. She was a master at persuading others to drink.

Taking advantage of Manager Sun’s delight over the Lafite, she had him drink quite a bit, while she only had a symbolic glass or two.

Still, as the alcohol kicked in, she couldn’t help feeling dizzy and nauseous.

Meng Tang covered her mouth, retching twice. “I need to go to the restroom.”

Just as she found the restroom and was about to enter, a hand suddenly grabbed her arm and yanked her backward.

Already dizzy, she stumbled back several steps from the sudden pull, her back slamming hard against the solid wall.

“Meng Tang, are you deliberately ignoring my calls?”

In her dazed state, Meng Tang saw a face she despised swaying before her eyes.

It was Cheng Youjun.

But at this moment, Cheng Youjun was angrily questioning her.

Meng Tang pinched her temples, struggling to stay alert.

“Who are you?”

Cheng Youjun was already furious, and now Meng Tang was pretending not to know him, which only fueled his anger. “Stop pretending, Meng Tang. Playing hard to get again? Do you think acting cold toward me will make me pay more attention to you?”

Meng Tang thought this guy must have a screw loose.

“Who’s playing hard to get? Get lost. Don’t hover around me. Just seeing you makes me sick.”

Meng Tang tried to push Cheng Youjun away, but she could barely stand steady, let alone muster any strength in her hands.

Instead, the enraged Cheng Youjun grabbed her wrist. “Meng Tang, have you had enough? Even if you want to play games, you should know the time and place.”

“Didn’t I call you earlier and ask you to bring Wei Wei to the dinner? But you just left her alone in the lobby. You’re just jealous that Wei Wei graduated from a prestigious school and is a professional director.”

“While you’re just a half-baked director who only knows how to throw money around because you’re a rich heiress. You’re afraid Wei Wei will steal your spotlight, so you deliberately left her out, right?”

“You’re the most jealous woman I’ve ever met!”

Cheng Youjun berated her relentlessly, dragging her along. “Go apologize to Wei Wei right now and hand over the cooperation with Hai Hui to her. Otherwise, I won’t forgive you!”

Meng Tang had no intention of dealing with this freeloader, but she never expected him to be so shamelessly audacious.

How much of a love-struck fool must the original owner have been to let a man like this lead her around by the nose and be his ultimate doormat for so many years?

“You’re insane! Who needs your forgiveness?”

“And you want me to give up the cooperation? Why don’t you just fly to the moon, you deadbeat freeloader!”

Meng Tang grabbed her bag and started hitting Cheng Youjun with it, unleashing a torrent of insults that completely enraged him.

“Meng Tang, have you had enough?!”

But a man’s strength was ultimately greater. Meng Tang’s hands were restrained as he yanked her twice, making her already dizzy head feel like it was sloshing around like water.

She… really wanted to throw up…

“Youjun Ge, what’s going on?”Their commotion drew quite a bit of attention. Chu Weiwei, who had been waiting outside, heard the noise and walked over.

To her surprise, she saw Meng Tang retch.

With a splattering sound, he vomited all over Cheng Youjun.

Cheng Youjun froze completely, his face turning as foul as a sewer.

“Meng Tang!”

Cheng Youjun raised his hand high in fury.

But in the next instant, it was firmly seized by a slender, jade-like hand.
