The Zeng family’s main hall featured a row of floor-to-ceiling windows on the west side, facing a traditional Chinese courtyard with a pond and a small bridge. If it were a fine evening, there would be golden sunlight shining on the willows by the bridge, creating a scene of ethereal beauty, like wisps of smoke rising gently—a uniquely tender and serene atmosphere.
Zeng Yusen sat at the piano by the window, playing Schumann’s in the flowing afterglow of the setting sun.
Xu Anlin, hands in his pockets, watched Zeng Yusen in the sunlight. He might not have strikingly handsome features, but there was no denying that Zeng Yusen was incredibly attractive, regardless of gender. He was like a soothing light, flowing water, reflecting sunlight from every angle.
Xu Anlin stood at the top of the stairs, thoughtfully observing Zeng Yusen. Suddenly, Zeng Yusen looked up and smiled slightly at him. Xu Anlin felt a strange unease, yet this was quickly replaced by an inexplicable sense of resistance.
Windsor Castle, located on the outskirts of London, was suddenly brightly lit tonight. Except when the Queen was on vacation, and when there were fewer tourists at night, there were usually only a few scattered lights and two teams of royal guards on duty.
But Windsor Castle was bustling with activity at this moment. Crowds of elegantly dressed people moved about, and luxurious cars lined up in the castle square, led by doormen, signifying that this was a night for the elite.
Many people could afford the cost to rent Windsor Castle, but very few could actually rent it.
Xu Anlin saw a young Chinese man standing at the door, dressed in a bespoke Italian Brioni suit. The elegant yet sophisticated Brioni suit accentuated his tall, slender figure, while the white vintage shirt and black bow tie gave him a classic air of elegance.
Ye Yuzhen smiled as Xu Anlin approached, removed his white gloves, and firmly grasped Xu Anlin’s hand, saying with a smile, “Junior, how have you been?”
If there were any Chinese figures in British high society, the Ye family was one of them, monopolizing almost 30% of the catering industry in Britain. From their great-grandfather onwards, three generations of the Ye family had been granted earldoms by the Queen and possessed a symbolic estate in the Scottish Highlands. Ye Yuzhen was the fourth generation, a graduate of Thermorefield School for Boys and a PhD graduate from Oxford. To most, Ye Yuzhen was surrounded by an aura of prestige and youthful promise.
His gentle, spring-like conversation eased Xu Anlin’s initial nervousness upon meeting him. They had both attended Thermorefield School for Boys, with Ye Yuzhen two years older as his senior, but had always been very kind to him.
Ye Yuzhen was kind and approachable. For a long time, Xu Anlin secretly admired and emulated him. He seemed surprised that Ye Yuzhen would recognize him so easily.
After chatting with Xu Anlin for a few moments, Ye Yuzhen seemed to notice Zeng Yusen standing behind him. His eyes flickered, and he asked with a smile, “Anlin, who is this?”
Xu Anlin coughed slightly and said, “He is… my cousin, Zeng Yusen!”
Zeng Yusen, unusually, wore a black suit today, but compared to the others’ impeccable attire, he was far too casual. He wore neither a tie nor a bow tie; his suit jacket was open, and the top two buttons of his white shirt were undone. His hands were in his pockets, and he casually watched Ye Yuzhen.
When Ye Yuzhen extended his clean, neatly manicured hand, Zeng Yusen stared at it for a long time before slowly offering it to him. He pinched Ye Yuzhen’s fingertips and shook them, before quickly withdrawing his hand, as if afraid Ye Yuzhen would dirty him.
Xu Anlin, seeing his rudeness, felt both angry and helpless, and glared at him fiercely.
Ye Yuzhen showed no displeasure whatsoever; on the contrary, he seemed particularly polite to his so-called cousin Zeng Yusen, personally welcoming him into the hall and chatting with them for a while before hurriedly going out to greet other guests.
Most of the prominent figures in the hall knew each other and were quite curious about Zeng Yusen and Xu Anlin, these unexpected guests. Seeing Ye Yuzhen’s unusual politeness, they became even more interested in their backgrounds, and several immediately seized the opportunity to establish acquaintances.
“Hello, I’m Godern from HSC Bank. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
“Hello, I’m Zeng Yusen from 103 West London.”
“103 West London… I remember that’s a residential area. Mr. Zeng, are you a real estate developer?”
“No,” Zeng Yusen said earnestly, “because that’s my most valuable property. Mr. Godern, since you’ve mentioned your most valuable property, I have to do the same.”
Xu Anlin’s face flushed red, embarrassed along with the banker. He quickly said, “Mr. Godern, Ye Yuzhen and I both graduated from Thermfield School for Boys, that’s all.”
After the people who had come to build relations had hurriedly left, Xu Anlin gritted his teeth and said, “Zeng Yusen, I beg you, could you please stop with these antics for one day!”
Zeng Yusen didn’t answer, only looking at him innocently.
Xu Anlin couldn’t help but regret bringing Zeng Yusen along. It was rather unbelievable that the Ye family would invite the Zeng family to Grandfather Ye’s birthday celebration.
While Mr. Ye was ostensibly the star of the party, the elderly man, dressed in a traditional Chinese silk robe, was clearly eager to introduce his grandson to the distinguished guests. It was obvious that Ye Yuzhen would become a member of British high society overnight.
Ye Yuzhen spoke elegantly and behaved with impeccable manners, easily gaining the approval of the elites. Xu Anlin, standing in a corner of the hall, was also very happy for his senior. Ye Yuzhen would frequently glance at them and greet them. Even as he moved through the crowd, Xu Anlin never felt neglected.
Xu Anlin himself was a very attention-grabbing person. Many people at the banquet would occasionally glance at him, whispering among themselves. These famous figures, naturally mindful of etiquette, mostly gave him sidelong glances and quickly looked away.
Xu Anlin was already used to these stares. No matter how many people glanced at him, he remained expressionless, only occasionally exchanging a glance with Ye Yuzhen and returning a smile.
After the ball began, several beautiful women of varying heights and shapes approached him with smiles, asking if they could dance with him, but Xu Anlin politely declined each time.
“You can’t dance?” Zeng Yusen pulled out his cigarette case again.
“I went to an all-boys school,” Xu Anlin replied, puffing out his chest and drawing a long face. He turned and saw the cigarette case in Zeng Yusen’s hand, frowning. “Don’t smoke here!”
“It’s not like you can’t dance even if you attend an all-boys school,” Zeng Yusen said with a smile, tapping his cigarette case with his long, slender fingers before putting it away.
As they were talking, Ye Yuzhen walked over, the crystal chandelier hanging high in the hall casting a soft glow on his face.
“Anlin, let’s dance.”
“Senior… I can’t dance!” Xu Anlin’s face flushed slightly, and fine beads of sweat appeared on his nose.
“It’s alright, come on, I’ll teach you!”
Ye Yuzhen nodded to Zeng Yusen, then took Xu Anlin’s hand and slid him onto the dance floor. He skillfully led Xu Anlin to a dimly lit corner, where he slowly taught him how to move his feet. However, Xu Anlin was still incredibly nervous, stiff as a mummy. He repeatedly stepped on Ye Yuzhen’s feet, making him even more tense.
Zeng Yusen suddenly chuckled. He slowly approached the band and smiled at the leader, saying, “Young Master Ye just asked you to play.”
The leader politely asked, “This waltz song has not finished. Are we directly switching to a tango?”
“Yes, immediately!”
Halfway through the dance, the music suddenly changed, surprising everyone in the hall. Zeng Yusen naturally took Xu Anlin from Ye Yuzhen’s arms.
Zeng Yusen smiled and said, “Let me teach you instead!” He led Xu Anlin towards the center of the dance floor, then whispered, “Left, right, left, right, sway a bit, left, right, left, right, sway a bit…” He laughed, “You’ve got talent!”
Xu Anlin blushed furiously, but in front of everyone, he had no choice but to grit his teeth and continue, inwardly wanting to bite Zeng Yusen. The climax of the music soon arrived, and he saw Zeng Yusen wink at him with his left eye, chuckling, “You just need to limp on one leg!”
Xu Anlin was spun around rapidly by Zeng Yusen, only to become dizzy and disoriented. When the music ended, he was momentarily dazzled again. Only when the spinning stopped did he see Zeng Yusen standing with him in the center of the hall.
Zeng Yusen stood under the enormous crystal chandelier, smiling at him. The huge dance floor was empty except for the two of them; everyone else had already rested, whispering amongst themselves. Ye Yuzhen smiled and applauded them, and the others naturally joined in.
“Wasn’t it simple?” Zeng Yusen asked with a smile.
Xu Anlin hesitated for a long time before finally squeezing out a sentence through gritted teeth: “Thank you for letting everyone here know I’m a complete buffoon.”
Zeng Yusen paused for a moment, then smiled indifferently and pulled a cigarette case from his pocket.
Xu Anlin suddenly shouted at Zeng Yusen, “I already told you, don’t smoke here!” He blurted it out, then realized his voice was too loud, and his face turned even redder.
Zeng Yusen raised an eyebrow, put the cigarette case away, put his hands in his pockets, and walked out.
Zeng Yusen walked across the rough ground of Windsor Castle and slowly strolled into George’s Chapel inside. He stood in the empty chapel, staring at the man bound by the cross for a long time before smiling slightly and pulling out the cigarette case again.
“Zeng Yusen, don’t smoke even in front of God.”
Zeng Yusen turned around and saw Ye Yuzhen standing behind him, smiling with his hands at his sides.
“God likes people who aren’t bothered by details.”
“What makes you say that?”
Zeng Yusen’s lips curved slightly. “He loves everyone for no reason. Being so casual, of course, he wouldn’t like people who are too cautious.”
“Your argument is too strange.” Ye Yuzhen smiled, then continued, “You danced beautifully.”
Zeng Yusen slowly lit his cigarette and said, “Your Ye family summoned the Zeng family here, not just to praise my dancing, right?”
Ye Yuzhen approached Zeng Yusen before saying, “I summoned you. It’s simple. I just want to inform you that from today onwards, the Ye family will no longer cooperate with the Zeng family…”
“What I mean is, the Ye family will no longer cooperate with any underworld organization.” He looked at Zeng Yusen’s expressionless face and said, “The Ye family will no longer do anything illegal and will gradually make amends for what we’ve done in the past.”
Zeng Yusen remained silent for a long time before suddenly chuckling, “Master must be heartbroken.”
Ye Yuzhen was slightly surprised by Zeng Yusen’s reaction. Seeing Zeng Yusen lick his lips and brush past him, he suddenly asked loudly, “Zeng Yusen, haven’t you thought about escaping from the underworld? You have to know, this is a society governed by law.”
Zeng Yusen turned to him, smiling, and said calmly, “Many times, the underworld is more humane and principled than a society governed by law.”
He walked out of the church and saw Xu Anlin standing by the door, coldly watching him, his eyes filled with disappointment and complex emotions. Zeng Yusen, however, smiled at Xu Anlin.
Perhaps sometimes, the distance between two people can be determined by one person’s efforts.
Ye Yuzhen and Xu Anlin’s contact suddenly became more frequent, and the Master’s attitude towards Xu Anlin also became more polite.
Xu Anlin was nominally Zeng Yusen’s bodyguard, so he often had to accompany him everywhere. Sometimes Zeng Yusen would be holed up in that curry-scented restaurant in Chinatown, flirting with Pavadi, and sometimes Ye Yuzhen would come and pick Xu Anlin up. Zeng Yusen never interfered with Xu Anlin’s freedom to go wherever he wanted.
The debonair Ye Yuzhen would always greet them very politely, and then walk out of that shabby door with Xu Anlin. Every time he appeared, he seemed to make the whole shop lose its luster, as if it had become even dirtier and filthier.
Pavadi placed a glass of whiskey on the rocks in front of him, saying with a hint of mockery, “Shiva, do you regret not going to Thermopylae School?” Zeng Yusen stretched out a slender finger, casually stirred the whiskey in the glass, then picked it up and smiled slightly, saying, “Sometimes, if you want freedom, you have to endure the distance from him.” After saying that, he drank the whiskey in one gulp.
Pavadi stared intently at Zeng Yusen. He turned his head and saw her gaze, then chuckled, “Be careful, don’t fall in love with me.”
Pavadi said calmly, “You’re warning me too late!”
As soon as Zeng Yusen returned home, he saw the Master, Xu Anlin, and A-Gui in the living room, all with solemn expressions. Zeng Yusen walked over and sat opposite the Master, instinctively touching her cigarette case, but ultimately withdrawing her hand.
“Yusen, the key has arrived. We’ll pick it up this evening.”
Zeng Yusen gave a mumbled reply.
“Because this key needs to be verified with a safe, you need to bring the safe. We’ve been under close surveillance by Interpol lately. I’ve come up with a win-win solution: you and Anlin will each carry two safes. You take the real one to the rendezvous, and Anlin will carry the fake one to distract Interpol.”
Zeng Yusen chuckled, “Why don’t you come with me? Anlin can sneak away. The more we bluff, the more they’ll think it’s fake, while Anlin’s quiet departure is the real deal.”
The master hesitated for a moment, then nodded, “That’s also a good idea!” He turned to A-Gui and said, “Then you go with Anlin.”
The master then gave some more details. Zeng Yusen seemed distracted. After everyone had left, he slowly went upstairs. Seeing Xu Anlin opening his door, he passed by him, suddenly turned back, and casually said, “I love you.”
Xu Anlin froze instantly. The atmosphere became incredibly strange. After a moment, Zeng Yusen said with unusual seriousness, “Really, besides Da Huang, I love you the most!”
Xu Anlin’s face turned green with anger. Without a word, his hands trembled as he quickly opened the door and slammed it against Zeng Yusen’s face.
Seeing the door still shaking, Zeng Yusen smiled slightly before slowly returning to his room.
By the time Zeng Yusen came out, everyone was growing impatient, and even the Master seemed to be forcibly restraining himself from losing his temper.
Xu Anlin seemed still angry about what had just happened. He silently carried his suitcase to the car. The moment he got in, he suddenly turned to look at Zeng Yusen and found him leaning against the car door, watching him with a sly smile, as if he found him extremely amusing. Xu Anlin’s anger immediately surged, and he shoved himself into the car, refusing to look at him again.
A-Gui’s car had slid quite a distance when Xu Anlin saw that Zeng Yusen was still standing beside the road where the car had been.
The car drove along the River Thames. Xu Anlin sat there, seemingly lost in thought for a moment, then suddenly pulled out his gun and pressed it against A-Gui’s head, coldly saying, “Don’t resist, stop the car!”
A-Gui’s face twitched. He braked, then said hoarsely, “I told the Master, the undercover agent wouldn’t be the young master…”
The car door opened abruptly, and Ye Yuzhen, in a brown suit, smiled, “Anlin, well done!”
Xu Anlin smiled slightly. They escorted A-Gui out. At that moment, Xu Anlin’s phone suddenly rang. His right hand still held the gun, while his left hand pulled the phone from his pocket. The screen displayed: The Person I Hate Most in the World.
On his sixteenth birthday, Zeng Yusen gave him a phone and a SIM card number. He’d changed phones countless times since, but this SIM card number remained the same.
The person Xu Anlin hated most in the world was undoubtedly Zeng Yusen. Although Zeng Yusen had given him a cell phone, he had also caused Xu Anlin considerable suffering beforehand. Therefore, in his furious state, the first number Xu Anlin memorized was Zeng Yusen’s, labeled “The Person I Hate Most in the World.”
Xu Anlin couldn’t remember what had happened before, and he was somewhat distracted by the number.
Suddenly, A-Gui, sitting in front of him, retaliated! He grabbed Xu Anlin’s wrist, but before he could make any further move, Ye Yuzhen cleanly and decisively struck him unconscious with a palm strike.
He slightly tilted his head, gesturing for Xu Anlin to answer the phone. Xu Anlin took a breath, picked up the phone, and calmly said, “Hello.”
“Is it Anlin?”
“Yes.”
“I suddenly remembered that Christmas is in a week, and I haven’t asked you what you want for a present yet.”
Normally, Xu Anlin would have said irritably, “When did you become so respectful of others?”
From childhood to adulthood, every major holiday was Xu Anlin’s unlucky day. On these days, he would always be tricked by Zeng Yusen before receiving a present from him.
His first Christmas was filled with longing for his mother, and he felt like crying. But his mother had said that a true man sheds blood, not tears. He gritted his teeth, trembling all over, and stubbornly held back his tears.
Just then, Zeng Yusen dragged in a cigarette butt. He solemnly told Xu Anlin that a long time ago, his mother had taught him how to stop crying: find a place where you can see the blue sky, tilt your head back, and look up. An angel would then pass by and kiss your eyes, and you wouldn’t feel your eyes sting and cry.
So Xu Anlin ran to the yard, looked up at the sky, and after a while, found this method very effective. When he craned his neck, he found Zeng Yusen very close, observing him with wide eyes.
Zeng Yusen usually wore a face that looked as if he hadn’t woken up yet, with his eyes half-open and half-closed. But when he opened his eyes wide, you would find that his pupils were actually very dark, round, and clear, like two black pearls.
──
Zeng Yusen, looking thoughtful, said, “So this method won’t make you cry, but it will make your nose run a lot!” Then he circled the yard, shouting, “Come and see! The new kid is a snotty-nosed brat—”
The adults coming and going in the yard were amused by him. That night, Xu Anlin received a cigarette toy train, but he also gained the nickname “Snotty-nosed Brat.” When he grew up, A-Gui still often called him “Snotty-nosed Brat.”
Xu Anlin was slightly distracted. When Zeng Yusen asked him again, he blurted out, “I want to listen to the piano.”
Zeng Yusen, sitting opposite him, was silent for a moment before smiling and asking, “Do you want Beethoven to play for you, or do you want Zeng Yusen to play for you?”
“You!” Xu Anlin said decisively.
“Alright, it’s a deal!”
Xu Anlin hung up the phone. Ye Yuzhen asked, “Did he not suspect anything?”
Xu Anlin shook his head. Ye Yuzhen smiled and said to the group of men in black civilian clothes around them, “Let me introduce you all. This is Xu Anlin, a new member of our Interpol organization. He went undercover in the Zeng family, and his contribution was indispensable in successfully cracking this case of illicit funds.”
Xu Anlin looked at everyone, who, though silent, greeted him with smiles and glances. Suddenly, he felt a weight lift from his shoulders.
Yes, from now on, just as Ye Yuzhen had told him, he would be walking in the sunlight.
A year ago, he was kidnapped by several men in black who told him that an introducer had placed him with Interpol. Given his special status, he could bypass many complicated procedures and become a member of the organization directly.
For days, he had suspected that the introducer was someone of considerable influence, but he didn’t know who it was until a year later, when he learned it was Ye Yuzhen.
Ye Yuzhen had someone move A-Gui to another car. Seeing Xu Anlin’s gaze still following A-Gui, he whispered reassuringly, “Don’t worry, only Zeng Jianian is the mastermind here. Everyone else will be fine as long as they’re willing to be witnesses…including Zeng Yusen.”
Xu Anlin looked at him gratefully. Ye Yuzhen squeezed his arm, then got into the car with him.
Xu Anlin had already received secret instructions from Zeng Jianian that the safe he possessed was the real one, and that he would contact the other party near the Thames River. However, Zeng Jianian hadn’t told him what the person coming to meet him looked like, or the exact location.
The car continued gliding along the River Thames, soon entering Upper Thames Street from Lower Thames Street.
Ye Yuzhen frowned as he drove, saying, “If we go any further, we’ll be entering a tourist area. There are a lot of people there, and if a gunfight breaks out, it will cause a lot of trouble.”
Xu Anlin also said helplessly, “There’s nothing we can do. Zeng Jianian said they’ll only call me and tell me the exact rendezvous location once this car comes into their sights.”
Ye Yuzhen had no choice but to continue driving forward.
As they entered Victoria Embankment Street, Xu Anlin’s phone finally rang. He answered quickly, and a man’s cold voice said, “Xu Anlin?”
The voice sounded somewhat familiar, but Xu Anlin couldn’t immediately place it.
“Yes!” he replied immediately.
“Very good. Now go up the Westminster Bridge, then carry the safe and walk into York Street.”
The other party hung up the phone quickly after speaking. When Ye Yuzhen pressed the miniature receiver to his ear, he turned around, shook his head, and said, “There’s too little time; we can’t track the phone’s location.”
Reluctantly, the two stopped the car. Xu Anlin carried the safe, and they entered the bustling York Street, one after the other. Soon, the enormous London Eye [1]Ferris wheel jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_3578615_1_1').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_3578615_1_1', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top center', relative: true, offset: [-7, 0], }); came into view. A group of chattering Chinese children had formed a long queue in front of the London Eye. Some children, after waiting in line for a while, lost patience and started playing around, running about.
Xu Anlin and Ye Yuzhen exchanged worried glances. Just then, the phone rang again. Xu Anlin answered, only to hear a cold voice say, “Go buy a ticket for the London Eye, then go up.” The call was hung up before Xu Anlin could speak.
Xu Anlin and Ye Yuzhen had no choice but to buy two tickets and patiently wait in line behind the children. Watching the children’s backs as they played, Xu Anlin suddenly remembered the first time he and Zeng Yusen had ridden the London Eye.
They were about the same age as these children then. Zeng Yusen had somehow angered him, and Xu Anlin, unable to bear it any longer, shoved him. Zeng Yusen lost his balance and fell. He flailed his arms, grabbing Xu Anlin’s arm and pulling him down with him. The two crashed face-to-face to the ground, their mouths colliding.
The tourists nearby were startled. Two blonde women hurriedly helped them up, asking repeatedly, “Are you okay?”
Zeng Yusen, blushing, stared at his slender white fingers and said, “I can’t help it; he just likes to show off his love in public.” This caused all the tourists present to burst into laughter.
Ye Yuzhen pushed him, and Xu Anlin suddenly snapped out of it. He realized that the corners of his mouth were curving upwards; he was actually about to laugh. He quickly took a few deep breaths, clearing his mind of the distracting thoughts.
Ye Yuzhen said softly, “Your phone is ringing.”
Xu Anlin quickly answered the phone. A cold voice said, “Go in with those children. Just you. Have the person in the coffee-colored suit wait downstairs.”
Xu Anlin hung up the phone and whispered to Ye Yuzhen, “He wants me to go in with these children, just me alone. You wait here.”
Ye Yuzhen hesitated for a moment, then looked around and said, “Don’t worry, once we’re on the London Eye, there’s no going back. We don’t need to worry about him doing anything funny. If necessary, you can just show them the key normally. We just need to guard this exit.”
Xu Anlin hummed in agreement, carrying the safe into a compartment in the London Eye. The children rushed in as well. Just as the door closed, a man in black swiftly slipped inside.
Seeing this, Ye Yuzhen’s lips curled into a smile. His features weren’t as refined as Xu Anlin’s, but he was very handsome, with distinct features that gave him an air of elegance. Even with a cold smile, Ye Yuzhen didn’t seem to lose his grace. He loosened his collar and said softly, “The fish have entered the harbor; time to haul in the net.”
Xu Anlin looked at the man in black, initially slightly nervous, but seeing the man staring out the window and not approaching him, he patiently refrained from greeting him either.
After waiting for about twenty minutes, Ye Yuzhen suddenly heard a burst of gunfire. His expression changed. He saw a London Eye box collapse; the door opened, filling the room with smoke, and children screamed as they rushed out.
A man in black carrying a safe rushed out, moving with incredible speed, instantly blending into the panicked crowd of passengers.
Ye Yuzhen raised his gun briefly, hesitated, then finally lowered it, pulled up his collar, and quickly ordered, “Send one man to check on Xu Anlin’s situation. The rest of you, follow me!”
As he spoke, he took a deep breath and chased after the man’s retreating figure.
The man in black had been running along the River Thames for a long time. Looking back, he realized he hadn’t shaken off Ye Yuzhen; in fact, Ye Yuzhen was getting closer. A hint of surprise crossed his face, and he quickly turned and ran.
The two were incredibly fast, soon covering York Street and reaching the vicinity of Hay’s Galleria. The man in black turned around, sweating profusely and shaking his head, panting, “You won. I’m not running anymore. Too bad I’m a sprinter; if it were a long-distance race, I could definitely beat you!”
Ye Yuzhen drew his gun and pressed it against the man’s head, also panting, “Put the box on the ground, and cover your head with your hands. Quick! I want to see your hands.”
The man in black was startled. The box slipped from his hands and fell to the ground. He raised his hands high, saying, “You didn’t say the competition involved killing people! This is illegal!”
“Get down!” Ye Yuzhen pressed his head down.
The man in black obediently lay down, his face contorted in a grimace. “Yes, I wanted a little excitement, but I didn’t expect so much…”
“What are you talking about?” Ye Yuzhen finally managed to catch his breath.
“The rules of the competition are clearly written like this: the cannon is the signal. If I can outrun the person chasing me while carrying the box, I win, and I can win the ten thousand US dollars prize.”
Ye Yuzhen gritted his teeth and said, “Who…are…you?”
“Me? I’m an American sprinter. I finished in the top six in the 400-meter sprint at the Sydney Olympics. Really, I just haven’t trained for years. I’ll definitely run faster in the future; please spare me…”
Ye Yuzhen, still somewhat suspicious, touched the safe’s latch. Finding only a pile of scrap paper inside, he slammed his fist on the stone railing beside him, cursed, and then quickly pulled up his collar, ordering, “Quick! Don’t come any closer, everyone back to the London Eye!”
Xu Anlin, handcuffed to a bench in a London Eye box, saw Ye Yuzhen and gave a bitter smile: “He’s strapped with explosives. With so many kids, I can’t resist!”
Ye Yuzhen unlocked his handcuffs and comforted him, “It was my mistake. I was lured away. I didn’t realize there were two groups of children in different compartments.”
“You must… not have calculated the time it takes to ride the London Eye. From the time the compartment door closes to the time it opens, it takes thirty minutes and forty seconds to complete one ride,” Xu Anlin said with a soft sigh.
Ye Yuzhen was taken aback, then chuckled, “I didn’t expect Anlin to have counted the time it takes to ride the London Eye.”
“Not me, it was Zeng Yusen,” Xu Anlin said calmly.
At that time, Zeng Yusen stood at the door and told him with a smug look, “Xiao Linlin and I went from the ground to the sky and back to the ground, a total of thirty minutes and forty seconds.”
Thinking of this, Xu Anlin smiled bitterly.
Ye Yuzhen was silent for a moment, then immediately pulled up his collar and ordered, “Team B, arrest Zeng Jianian and Zeng Yusen immediately.”
