4 – Fu Siyan, what are you… doing?
When Sheng Xingyang walked out of the bedroom, Fu Siyan was sitting on the sofa studying the television remote control.
After all, as a young master who had spent several years abroad, he was accustomed to high-tech products from overseas and had no idea how to use this outdated domestic remote. Instead, he examined it as if it were some novel gadget.
“Fu Siyan, what are you… doing?” Sheng Xingyang approached from behind him, noticing him repeatedly pressing the buttons on her remote. Worried he might break it, she quickly asked in a low voice.
“Oh, I’m trying to figure out what this is for? I’ve never used one like this before,” Fu Siyan replied honestly, flashing her an incredibly gentle and handsome smile as he waved the remote in his hand.
“You’ve never used one?” Sheng Xingyang was somewhat surprised.
This was the most ordinary type of remote—surely most people had seen one before?
How could he not know?
“Hmm, never used one.” The young master Fu was almost embarrassed to tell her that the televisions in his home since childhood were all voice-controlled or electronically operated, nothing like this.
For a moment, Sheng Xingyang looked at this young, handsome man as if he were an alien. Could it be that… he was lured out of some remote mountain village by Lin Meisu?
And then paid to marry her?
Sheng Xingyang let her imagination run wild but didn’t intend to mock him. Instead, she walked over and said, “This is a television remote, an older model.”
“If you want to watch TV, press this red button first, then the green one.” Sheng Xingyang half-knelt beside him and began teaching him how to use the remote.
Sheng Xingyang smelled wonderful, carrying the faint, pleasant scent of lily-scented laundry detergent. This elegant, fresh fragrance was several times nicer than those high-end international perfumes.
Combined with her own subtle natural scent, when Fu Siyan lowered his head to look at her, his tall nose was instantly enveloped by the delicate lily fragrance emanating from her clothes.
The man’s handsome eyes deepened noticeably.
His attractive Adam’s apple bobbed slightly.
His gaze remained fixed on Sheng Xingyang’s profile as he listened to her gentle, soothing voice.
His heart felt as if it had melted into a pool of warmth, soft and tingling.
Ah, how could his sister be so beautiful and gentle?
He was almost unable to resist the urge to pull her into his arms.
Of course, just as this thought surfaced, his hand instinctively moved to embrace Sheng Xingyang. Unfortunately, she had finished her explanation and handed the remote back to him: “Now, you should know how to use it, right?”
Although she hadn’t explained every function, she had covered the basics.
If he ever got bored at home and wanted to watch TV, he should be able to manage on his own.
“Got it.” Fu Siyan snapped back to reality, quickly withdrawing his hand and using his other hand to take the remote.
“I’ll go make dinner.” Sheng Xingyang stood up, glancing at her watch. “I’m not the best cook, so you’ll have to make do.”
Fu Siyan lifted his face, his eyes deep and filled with profound infatuation—something Sheng Xingyang naturally failed to notice, as she still maintained a layer of wariness toward him.
For now… they would coexist peacefully.
“I’ll join you.”
Sheng Xingyang frowned. “You know how to cook?”
Fu Siyan nodded. “Yes, a little. But I’ll learn to cook for you and the baby in the future.”
He spoke earnestly, as if he meant every word.
Sheng Xingyang was momentarily dazed, but it didn’t last long. She quickly pulled herself together and said politely, “Don’t force yourself. We… can’t last long.”
Fu Siyan knew what she was thinking. To put it bluntly, this blind date was something he had hijacked midway.
According to his investigation, the Sheng family had always been hostile toward her.
This blind date was also deliberately arranged by the Sheng family, so it was normal for her to be wary.
He wasn’t angry; instead, he felt heartache for her.
In the future, he would slowly spoil her. After she had adjusted to him for a while, he would confess his feelings.
He would make her let go of all her reservations.
“Let’s give it a try,” Fu Siyan said, lowering his eyelids. “By the way, sister… if you’re working… who takes care of the baby?”
The TV station wasn’t a charity; it wouldn’t allow her to bring the baby to work while taking care of the child.
Sheng Xingyang replied as she walked, “My mother used to have an auntie who took care of me when I was little. Now she helps me take care of the baby.”
“She went back to her hometown to take care of some business these past two days and will return in a couple of days.”
Fu Siyan gave a soft “mm” in response and followed Sheng Xingyang into the kitchen. He glanced at the small but warmly decorated kitchen environment.
A flicker of happiness instantly flashed in the man’s eyes.
Especially when he saw a row of small potted spider plants and mimosa on the kitchen windowsill.
The happiness in his eyes welled up even more.
In truth, the warmth of a home could be very simple.
A few potted plants she liked on the windowsill, and accompanying her while making dinner.
This feeling was something he, a young master accustomed to a life of luxury, had never experienced before.
“Are you sure you want to help me cook?” Sheng Xingyang asked as she took off the apron and tied it around herself while Fu Siyan was lost in thought staring at the potted plants.
Fu Siyan snapped back to reality and smiled. “Yes, sister. Tell me, what should I do first?”
“Wash the vegetables first?” Sheng Xingyang said. “I bought some vegetables and put them on that vegetable rack.”
Fu Siyan, as a young master, had never actually washed vegetables before.
When he said he could cook, he meant simple Western dishes like steak.
He had no idea how to cook Chinese dishes that required stir-frying.
But for Sheng Xingyang, he was willing to learn from scratch.
Fu Siyan obediently went to the vegetable rack to pick up the small greens she had bought that morning, then placed them in the sink and started running water.
After filling the sink, he simply scooped them out.
Seeing this, Sheng Xingyang couldn’t help but smile helplessly at the corner of her lips. And he said he could cook?
He didn’t even know how to wash vegetables?
She didn’t expose him. Instead, she walked over, took the vegetable basket from his hands, and said, “Washing them like this won’t get them clean.”
“Ah? Really?” Fu Siyan didn’t know.
Instantly surprised, he looked at her. After a pause, he realized she was going to wash them herself.
Instinctively, he stood behind her, bent down, wrapped his arms around her, and reached out to hold her slender, fair hands. In a low voice, he said, “Teach me? I really don’t know how to wash vegetables well.”
His fingers were beautiful, the kind that girls nowadays love—like those of an idol manga boy.
His knuckles were distinct, and his fingertips were round, clean, and smooth.
Even the small moons on his fingernails were flawlessly perfect.
Faced with such a perfect man, Sheng Xingyang couldn’t help but wonder again… Why had he agreed to Lin Meisu’s request to come on this blind date for marriage?
“Sister, is this how it’s done?” He imitated her movements quite convincingly, but more than that, his fingers tightened around hers.
Their hands were immersed together in the cold water.
The water was clearly a bit cold, but their hands pressed together suddenly grew warm.
Along with his tall figure leaning close, his broad chest, his clean scent mixed with hormones and a faint hint of sandalwood.
It drifted into her nostrils.
A strange feeling emerged.
She pursed her lips, instinctively pulling her hand from his palm, and said, “Mm, that’s about right.”
After speaking, she ducked down, slipped out of his embrace, her pretty face slightly flushed. She quickly turned around, pretending to chop vegetables, and said, “Once washed, put them over there.”
Fu Siyan glanced sideways at her, tenderness overflowing in his eyes. He had just held his sister’s hand.
It seemed she was still quite resistant to his closeness?
No matter, he would slowly melt her heart.
Fu Siyan replied gently, “Alright.”
Afterward, the two helped each other cook, and by the time the meal was ready, about half an hour had passed.
Fu Siyan brought the fragrant dishes to the table, while Sheng Xingyang went to the bedroom to check if Sheng Wanyu had woken up.
Fortunately, the little one seemed quite sleepy today?
He had been sleeping the whole time, not waking up.
Sheng Xingyang then came out to eat with Fu Siyan. To be honest, having a man suddenly join her for dinner at home still felt a bit unfamiliar to Sheng Xingyang.
But unfamiliar or not, she would have to get used to it.
