In the countryside, people didn’t really have Saturdays. Early in the morning, everyone went about their usual work.
After the Su Family left, Yutao finally came out of her room.
The summer heat was sticky and humid. After a night of deep sleep, she woke up drenched in sweat.
She wasn’t in a hurry. From the commune to Honghe Village took about an hour, and that man probably wouldn’t arrive so early. So she took another shower and went into the room to get herself ready.
The Original Owner’s clothes had just been tidied a couple of days ago; each piece was neatly folded in the wardrobe.
She picked out a apricot-colored blouse and a light blue skirt that went past the knees.
Then, thinking the skirt was too long, she pondered for a moment, took scissors, and snipped a few times, turning the long skirt into a short one.
She changed into the outfit, but the blouse, which should have fit perfectly, suddenly felt tight, and it took her a while to button it up.
Feeling slightly constrained, Yutao unbuttoned it and was surprised to find that her formerly flat chest had somehow begun forming a small mound. Below that, her waist seemed slimmer, and from the side, a subtle curve of a woman’s body could be seen.
She stared for a moment and then looked herself over from head to toe in the mirror. Indeed, her chest and waist had undergone unusual changes.
Not only that, her skin seemed smoother and fairer.
Although far from what she had been in her previous life, these changes were enough to make her pleasantly surprised.
After a while, she regained her composure, changed into another outfit, and even took out the Original Owner’s nearly used-up lipstick to wear.
Judging the time, she decided to take the scented pouch she had made at home a few days ago, planning to use it to ease the atmosphere before speaking with him.
Everyone had gone to work. On the way to the Lu Family, there were still few people around. Occasionally, a few children played together, and soon, she arrived at the Lu Family residence.
The main gate of the Lu Family was wide open. Yutao’s lips curved into a smile.
She had already seen that everyone from the Lu Family had gone to work, so with the gate open, Lu Yunyang must be the only one at home.
A man and woman alone together—anything could happen. Several possibilities raced through her mind as she stepped into the courtyard and called out, “Is anyone home?”
After a while, before she heard a man’s voice, a sound came from behind her, followed by Lu Yunzhao’s voice: “Someone’s here. Who are you?”
Yutao’s forehead darkened. Lu Yunzhao had a grudge against her. Being at home now was not a good situation.
She slowly turned back. “It’s me.”
Lu Yunzhao stared at her. Two braids hung down from her long neck, her skin glowed with health, no longer pale and wan like a few days ago. Her lips were rosy and delicate—certainly with lipstick applied.
Her white blouse was tucked into her skirt, and the skirt, unfortunately, didn’t even reach her knees, exposing slender, fair legs. At a glance, she looked like a well-educated youth just arrived from the city, exuding the aura of an intellectual.
Once he fully recognized her, he widened his eyes and said in surprise, “Su Yutao?”
Yutao blinked. “It’s me.”
“You…” Lu Yunzhao pointed at her, his gaze scanning up and down, stopping at the skirt. “You actually wear it this short!”
“What’s short?” Yutao blinked. To follow the rules here, she hadn’t dared cut it too short. “It still reaches the knees.”
Seeing her indifferent expression, Lu Yunzhao nearly bulged his eyes. “Your legs are exposed! How can you not feel embarrassed?”
Despite his words, the outfit, though simple and the skirt short, looked truly good on her.
Moreover, she emitted a faint, pleasant fragrance, though it was unclear what she had applied.
The girl’s hostility was evident, and Yutao had little desire to engage, but she was Lu Yunyang’s sister.
According to the Original Owner’s memory, Lu Yunzhao’s temper could be bad, but her character wasn’t terrible. If their relationship progressed, she might even get some information about Lu Yunyang from her.
Recalling the glint of pleasure in her gaze earlier, Yutao raised an eyebrow. “So what? You think my outfit looks good too, right?”
Caught off guard, Lu Yunzhao was somewhat reluctant.
She had wanted to say it looked awful, but he beat her to it: “You have a good face, and your height is almost like mine. If you dressed like this, you’d look really nice too.”
Lu Yunzhao: ???
She nearly said it looked ugly.
And what was going on with Su Yutao today? Why had she suddenly complimented her?
She snorted, lifted her chin, and fixed a wary gaze on her. “Don’t think that saying a few nice things will make me forgive what you did to my brother!”
“I’m complimenting you because you look good, it has nothing to do with your brother,” Yutao said, her smile sincere. “It’s just—”
She paused, waiting for Lu Yunzhao’s reaction.
“Just what?” Lu Yunzhao, impatient by nature, quickly asked.
Yutao walked up to her. “It’s just that how one looks is as important as how one dresses. Even beautiful people need proper attire.”
She took the scented pouch she had originally prepared for Lu Yunyang, tugged Lu Yunzhao toward the main hall, coaxing and teasing, “This smells really nice. I’ll give it to you. Let’s go to your room and figure out how to dress properly together.”
The young girl, eager for beauty, was easily swayed. Lu Yunzhao, a bit confused, followed her. As they reached the room door, a sound came from the courtyard.
They both turned their heads and saw Lu Yunyang returning with his medical bag.
His face was a bit haggard, faint stubble on his chin. The handsome features carried a more rugged charm.
Yutao immediately released Lu Yunzhao’s hand and stepped forward, eyes smiling at the man. “Doctor Lu, I’ve been waiting for you a long time.”
“Really here for a follow-up?” Lu Yunyang had intended only to glance at her, but the sight of her calves beneath the short skirt caught his attention. He slightly frowned and looked downward.
Sunlight illuminated her slender legs—they were almost glowing.
Yutao caught the subtle change in his expression and suppressed the small sense of triumph she felt. “Not entirely. I also have something I want to ask you today.”
“What is it?” Lu Yunyang strode into the main hall.
Seeing him enter, Yutao followed. When she reached Lu Yunzhao, she gently explained, “I’ll come find you after I’m done here.”
Then, in Lu Yunzhao’s wide-eyed surprise, she went straight into the room.
Once inside, the man acted as if he didn’t notice another person was present. He set down his bag and unbuttoned a few top buttons of his shirt.
The front hung loosely, his shirt slightly disheveled.
Yutao could sense that without her presence, he would probably take off the shirt entirely.
After a while, he opened his medical kit and took out a stethoscope, glancing at the girl’s rosy lips. “Where does it hurt this time?”
His gaze was so obvious that Yutao no longer used her previous lame excuse. “It’s fine. I’ve mostly recovered.”
Lu Yunyang placed the stethoscope on the table. “Then, what do you want to ask me?”
His tone was relaxed, as if he assumed she wouldn’t ask about anything serious. Yutao, unsure how to begin, blurted out, “I want to know… when you saved me that day, did you… kiss me?”
Lu Yunyang instantly understood the question, seemingly not expecting it. He froze for a moment, then looked at her silently.
After a moment, he said, “No. You can rest assured.”
The answer was expected, and Yutao had already guessed it. “I didn’t mean it like that. I just want to ask… can you teach me that?”
Lu Yunyang slightly frowned. “Teach you what?”
Yutao leaned closer to him and repeated, “I want to ask if you can teach me mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.”
Worried he might send her away, she added, “I think this is very necessary. What if someone like me needs help and you’re not in the village?”
Recalling her near-death experience from a few days ago, she shivered slightly and leaned closer.
Their distance decreased.
Lu Yunyang took a small step back. Every time she drew near, he smelled a faint fragrance, refreshing yet calming his long-tense nerves.
He lowered his eyes, scanning her face, seemingly seeing her “eager thirst for knowledge” in her dark pupils.
He stood there silently for a moment, then slightly turned his head, taking a book from the drawer behind the table. He flipped through it quickly and handed it to her, expressionless: “Read it yourself.”
Yutao was speechless. She didn’t want to read the book—she wanted him to teach her one-on-one.
Under his sharp gaze, she slowly took the book and looked at the words. After a while, she returned it. “I understand the words, but I don’t know how to do it.”
Her pupils were dark and bright, her eyes enchanting. Every small frown carried subtle charm.
She used her eyes skillfully, staring at him, fingers lightly tugging his shirt corner. “Doctor Lu, can you demonstrate it for me?”
Her voice was soft, tinged with coquettishness.
Lu Yunyang lowered his eyes.
Sunlight streamed through the window, illuminating her alluring gaze and the fine fuzz on her face. Her slender legs were still dazzlingly fair.
He locked his gaze on her, thinking carefully.
“Alright.” His voice was crisp and decisive.
Yutao froze, stunned. Before she could react, his calm voice continued: “I think what you said makes sense. If something like this happens again and I’m not in the village, what will you do?”
Yutao instantly recovered, nodding rapidly. “Exactly, so—”
“So I will schedule a time with the production team to properly teach everyone how to do emergency resuscitation.” Lu Yunyang didn’t give her a chance to speak further.
The sudden decision caught Yutao off guard.
He squinted at her, a faint smile hidden in his eyes. “When the time comes, you’ll come too. I’ll demonstrate it for you personally.”
