13 – Thе Тор Тусoon is Нim
Тhе nехt day, both Wеn Zhi аnd Mo Тingyan hаd thе dау оff. Тheу hаd оriginallу plаnned to gо furniturе shoрping tоgеthеr, but beсаuse Мо Тingуаn hаd sоme рersоnаl matters to attеnd to аt the lаst minutе, thе rеsponsibilitу fell on Wеn Zhi’s shоuldеrs.
Аfter buуing the furniturе, she follоwеd thе рlаn she hаd made with Mо Тingуаn аnd went to the jеwеlrу storе in the mаll acrоss thе strееt.
Last night, Mо Тingyan hаd said that sinсе thеу werе mаrried, even with a mortgage, thеy shоuld still hаvе sоmе sensе of cerеmonу. So, hе plаnned to buy her some wedding jewelry.
Wen Zhi didn’t refuse. If others had it, why couldn’t she?
Arriving at the jewelry store, she headed straight for the gold counter, intending to buy a gold bracelet that would hold its value. As she leaned over the counter, carefully examining the designs, a familiar and nauseating voice suddenly came from behind—
“Oh my, isn’t this Xiao Zhi? What a coincidence! What are you doing here?”
Wen Zhi straightened up and turned around, her gaze as cold as ever as she looked at her stepsister, Wen Xue, who had just stolen her boyfriend.
Wen Xue had long, wavy hair and a slender figure. Her looks were above average in a crowd, but standing next to Wen Zhi, she simply couldn’t compare.
Now, with a fake, harmless smile on her lips, she said, “Xiao Zhi, ever since you had that falling out with Dad and ran away from home, you’ve been living so frugally. What brings you to a jewelry store today? Could it be… you’re just here to window-shop?”
She paused and let out a thoughtful hiss. “Wait, no. My mom said she and your dad just arranged a marriage for you. You know the groom—it’s Mr. Jin, the partner of the Wen family, who’s already over fifty!”
Wen Zhi looked at the woman before her, not a trace of emotion in her eyes.
Wen Xue hated seeing her so unruffled.
What was there to be proud of at a time like this?
Unable to hold back, she sneered again, emphasizing the word “uncle.” “Mr. Jin just lost his wife, and his family is very wealthy. He’s a perfect match for you!”
Wen Zhi raised an eyebrow, her expression calm and indifferent. “Such a good opportunity should be left for you. You’re getting older and can only satisfy your needs by sleeping with other people’s boyfriends. I won’t compete with you.”
A smug, mocking smile flashed across Wen Xue’s face. “I don’t have such good fortune as you. It’s just that Tingjue and I did that kind of thing, and he said he’d take responsibility. He’s already agreed to be with me. Look, he told me to come here today to pick out jewelry for me. He said I could buy whatever I liked!”
Wen Xue pretentiously pulled out a bank card, her eyes smiling but filled with provocation as she glanced at Wen Zhi. “Xiao Zhi, you’ve always had good taste. Help me pick something out. I want to choose a piece of jewelry that Tingjue will like.”
Hearing this, Wen Zhi chuckled softly, a hint of calculation flashing in her eyes. She calmly replied, “Sure.”
Wen Xue was taken aback. In the past, Wen Zhi would have ignored her completely, so why was she agreeing so readily today?
Something wasn’t right!
Wen Zhi turned and pointed to a necklace in the bulletproof display case. “I’ve looked around, and that necklace suits you best.”
Wen Xue glanced over and froze when she saw the price from a distance.
Two million six hundred thousand?!
Wen Xue swallowed hard and tried to sound nonchalant. “That necklace isn’t very pretty…”Wen Zhi stood to the side, arms crossed, watching the drama unfold with glee. “This is the store’s treasure, the only one of its kind in the entire Jiangcheng. Or… is it that your boyfriend didn’t give you enough money, and you can’t afford it? Should I help you call Mo Tingjue and ask?”
As she spoke, she took out her phone and found Mo Tingjue’s number, about to dial when Wen Xue immediately stopped her—
“No need for you to call. Tingjue loves me so much, he’ll buy me anything I like.”
With that, she handed her card to the sales assistant. “I want this one.”
Wen Zhi sneered contemptuously, waiting for the show to unfold. Sure enough, the sales assistant soon returned, respectfully handing back the card and saying, “I’m sorry, ma’am, but your card has insufficient funds.”
Wen Xue’s face fell. Her mother had recently been at odds with her stepfather, who had frozen her cards. Now, she only had this one card to use…
Hesitating for a moment, she said, “I’ll make a call.”
After walking away, she dialed Mo Tingjue’s number. “Tingjue, I saw a necklace I really like, but the card you gave me doesn’t have enough money. Could you…”
Mo Tingjue’s voice, however, was cold and detached. “A million isn’t enough? Do you really think one night with you is worth that much? Don’t overestimate yourself! I told you, once you took the money, we were even. Don’t bother me again!”
With that, he hung up, leaving Wen Xue’s face frozen in a sickly shade of green.
After a moment, she returned, her expression noticeably colder. “Tingjue must be busy. He didn’t have time to answer.”
Wen Zhi didn’t bother hiding her scoff. Busy?
What could an unemployed man possibly be busy with?
She knew better than Wen Xue exactly how much allowance he received each month.
Spending over two million on a necklace for Wen Xue?
Unless Mo Tingjue had gone mad!
Seeing the mocking smile on Wen Zhi’s face, Wen Xue’s expression darkened completely. She couldn’t possibly lose face in front of Wen Zhi!
She strode directly to the counter and looked at the 900,000-yuan necklace she had admired many times before.
Even now, Wen Zhi didn’t have a single decent piece of jewelry. Even if she bought this one, she would still outshine her!
Feeling somewhat comforted, she calmly said, “In my opinion, this necklace is much better and more suitable for me. I’ll take this one!”
Seeing her decision, the sales assistant hurried over to process the payment.
Just then, another sales assistant carefully approached with a tray, stopping respectfully in front of Wen Zhi—
“Miss Wen, I apologize for the wait. Your necklace is ready.”
Wen Zhi was instantly bewildered. Hers?!
Hadn’t she not chosen anything yet? And besides, she had been looking at gold bracelets!
The sales assistant presented the necklace to her. “This is the TY Heart, specially customized for you by Mr. Y. Please inspect it.”
Mr. Y?
As she was puzzling over this, Wen Xue curiously leaned over from the side—
Looking at the necklace, she couldn’t help but sneer. “Oh, this necklace is so plain. It can’t be worth much, right? Where did you find this admirer of yours? No money, yet putting on such airs?”
The sales assistant immediately explained, “That’s not true, ma’am. Mr. Y is a top-tier billionaire. This necklace is the only one of its kind in the world, valued at four million yuan!”
