“My name is Shiraishi Makoto.
Pleased to meet you all.” Having finished his self-introduction, the boy sat back down in his seat.
No one noticed that the back of his shirt was already soaked through with cold sweat.
“That was close…
Thank goodness my name was on the phone they just handed out.” Shiraishi Makoto gripped his student terminal tightly in his right hand, staring fixedly at the information on the screen: Student ID: xxxxxx.
Name: Shiraishi Makoto.
Date of Birth: May 20th.
Class: Class 1-B.
School: Advanced Nurturing High School.
Points: 100,000.
Shiraishi Makoto unconsciously rubbed the phone with his thumb, realizing that he had transmigrated into the world of Classroom of the Elite—and what’s more, a soul transmigration with no memories of the original body’s life.
For a transmigrator, this was probably the worst possible start.
His mind was a complete blank, yet the people ahead of him kept standing up one after another to introduce themselves.
The only saving grace was that even without memories, he had automatically acquired proficiency in Japanese—so he could understand what he heard, read what he saw, and speak when needed.
It wasn’t convenient to think things through in detail right now, so Shiraishi put away his phone and quietly observed the situation in the classroom.
Since two-dimensional anime characters and real people inevitably looked somewhat different, he was momentarily dazed by the sight of classmates with hair in all sorts of colors, but he quickly located the central figure of Class 1-B.
On the podium, that striking pink-haired figure was none other than Ichinose Honami, nicknamed “Fat-Bo” by fans.
Based on the introductions just now, Shiraishi had already determined that today was the first day of school.
Cross-referencing his memory of the plot, this should be the period after homeroom teacher Hoshinomiya Chie had finished explaining the basic rules and distributed the first month’s 100,000 points, and Ichinose Honami was now organizing the class self-introduction session.
This timing was neither too early nor too late—absolutely perfect.
Any earlier, and he would have had to deal with awkward questions from his “family” back home.
Any later, and his classmates would have already grown familiar with “his” habits.
But right now, everyone was still strangers to each other—he wouldn’t need to put up any act.
The Advanced Nurturing High School was also an ideal environment for him.
Under normal circumstances, there was no way to contact the outside world, which meant he wouldn’t have to interact with his “family” for the entire three years.
By the time those three years were over, a few changes in personality would be perfectly explainable.
Shiraishi silently organized these scattered thoughts while keeping an eye on the classmates who went up to introduce themselves one by one.
After the introductions came the school-organized opening ceremony.
The process was no different from any ordinary school—invite a few big names from the business, political, and educational worlds, have them deliver a bunch of empty formalities, let the school administration say a few words of outlook, and then dismiss everyone.
By now it was noon.
The first-year students had the entire afternoon free to familiarize themselves with the school.
“Shiraishi-kun, want to head to the commercial district together?” Just as Shiraishi was about to leave on his own, a voice called out from behind him.
He turned around and saw Hamaguchi Tetsuya and a few other boys from the class.
The one who had spoken was Hamaguchi Tetsuya, who sat behind him.
“I’m planning to head back to the dormitory first to get settled.
Maybe next time.” Shiraishi shook his head lightly.
“Fair enough.” Hamaguchi didn’t seem surprised.
In truth, most people would choose to go back to the dormitory first anyway—he had only asked because he’d noticed that Shiraishi had kept to himself since entering the classroom and had looked a bit nervous during his self-introduction.
The invitation had been somewhat instinctive.
After breaking away from the class group, Shiraishi headed straight for the convenience store.
He had two reasons.
One was to buy some basic daily necessities.
The more important reason was to lay the groundwork for revealing the school’s rules later on.
He was certainly well aware of this school’s “hidden rules,” but if he wanted to speak of them openly, he needed a plausible “logical reasoning” to back it up.
The school wouldn’t write the rules down clearly, and it prohibited upperclassmen from leaking information to lowerclassmen, but it secretly encouraged students to figure out the truth on their own.
For example: the free meal sets at the convenience store and cafeteria, the point gaps between different classes in higher years, and the attitudes of upperclassmen toward different first-year classes.
So Shiraishi planned to go through the process step by step, leaving a complete trail of his exploration under the surveillance cameras.
Entering the convenience store, he first walked to the daily necessities section.
Since he was completely unfamiliar with the brands in this world—or this country—Shiraishi simply grabbed a few items based on their price tags.
Only then did he “casually” discover the free goods section, pause for a moment in front of it, and then replace some of the items in his basket with free ones.
“Hey, what’s this about?” A puzzled mutter came from not far away.
There were quite a few people in the convenience store, but the question was clearly directed toward his general direction.
Shiraishi instinctively turned his head to look.
The speaker was a brown-haired boy, standing beside a girl with long black hair.
That’s Ayanokōji Kiyotaka and Horikita Suzune?
Shiraishi’s gaze lingered on the two of them for a split second.
Immediately sensing his mistake, he quickly looked away, continued replacing the items in his basket, then turned around to put the swapped-out goods back in their original places.
Ayanokōji Kiyotaka said nothing.
His gaze paused on Shiraishi briefly before being drawn away by Horikita’s voice.
“Free…?” “It’s probably a relief measure for students who’ve run out of points.
The school is quite thoughtful, isn’t it.” Ayanokōji responded calmly.
Shiraishi carried his basket toward the register, not daring to look back to confirm their movements.
That glance just now was too deliberate.
With Ayanokōji Kiyotaka’s level of perceptiveness, he’s probably already noticed that there was something off about the way I looked at them.
“Tch.
I let my guard down—I actually forgot that Ayanokōji would be here today too.” He clicked his tongue inwardly.
Still, he didn’t dwell on self-blame or regret.
Shiraishi had been mentally prepared for this.
Before transmigrating, he had been an ordinary third-year university student—nothing outstanding about him.
Like everyone else his age, he’d gone to school, lived an ordinary life, and been preparing for the ordinary hurdles of further education and employment.
It had been less than a day since he’d transmigrated, but he’d already determined his ultimate goal at this school: to graduate from Class A.
Yet even with his knowledge of the plot, facing the Advanced Nurturing School—a place that gathered the most talented students of this generation—he didn’t have a hundred percent guaranteed chance of victory.
Especially against a monster like Ayanokōji Kiyotaka.
“Too much has happened today.
I need to go back to the dorm and sort out my thoughts properly.” After paying for his purchases, Shiraishi briefly observed the red-haired Sudo Ken shouting loudly inside the store, then wisely decided to leave while the getting was good.
If he’d stayed longer, he could have witnessed the famous scene of Sudo clashing with the upperclassmen and gathered information about how Class D was discriminated against.
But given that he’d already acted somewhat unnaturally in front of Ayanokōji—who would also be watching from the sidelines—it was better to make his exit now.
