In the villa’s underground laboratory, Eddie stood in front of the bench, running experiments as he researched the T-serum—and in his hand was an exceptionally precious vial.
The pale-blue solution sat perfectly still inside the test tube, yet it radiated a kind of power that made your heart clench in fear.
This was a power that could destroy any living creature—an absolute, terrifying force!
Alex sat on a tall lab stool, quietly watching Eddie’s every move.
This man made her curious.
How exactly had he learned of Spencer’s schemes, and what was he planning in the shadows?
Everything about him felt like a fogbank—mysterious, dense, and impossible to see through.
And that only made her want to explore further, to uncover the truth behind this riddle of a man.
In front of the monitor, Eddie studied his own genetic data.
He had only obtained this equipment after coming clean to Alex.
Before that, because he had to keep playing dumb for Spencer, he barely had any chances to run experiments at all.
There was no so-called “system.” If you wanted to survive in this crisis-riddled bioweapon world, you had to rely on yourself.
Either you had ridiculous, protagonist-tier luck like Lin San Guang (Leon S.
Kennedy), or you were as brutally capable in a fight as Chris.
Otherwise, you used science to strengthen yourself—because only science can defeat science!
“What are you researching?” Alex walked over, carrying a wave of fragrance with her.
Even though it wasn’t the first time, Eddie still felt his heartbeat speed up.
This Alex had an overpowering presence, that captivating aura of a strong, successful woman—the kind that naturally made people tense up and pay attention.
“My own gene fragments,” Eddie said.
“I’m simulating a compatible T-serum to enhance myself.
Right now, the most compatible person Umbrella has is Colonel Sergei, but that’s about as far as the T-serum goes—still nowhere near immortality!” His tone was flat, almost indifferent.
“You really do know a lot,” Alex said with interest.
“So how’s your research going now?” Her beautiful eyes shifted, and who knew what she was thinking.
“Still in progress.
Maybe… I need someone’s help,” Eddie replied, turning his head—only to realize she’d come closer than he expected.
“Who?” Alex was genuinely curious, and also a little puzzled.
Why not ask her for help?
“William Birkin,” Eddie said firmly.
“Him?” Alex chuckled.
“You know he’s the developer of the G-serum, and his relationship with Spencer is extremely tense.
He has no intention of handing over his research results.
And you know what happens if someone refuses to submit experimental data.” No one understood Spencer better than she did.
That old man was always calling her his “child”—it was disgusting.
“I know,” Eddie said calmly.
“That’s why I’m planning to have you send a message ahead.
I want to meet Spencer and tell him something—trade it for his support and help.” His confidence didn’t waver.
Alex was stunned.
He was actually going to approach Spencer voluntarily?
Her brows immediately knit together.
“Are you insane?
You want to seek out that old fox?
You think you can scheme against him?”
Eddie gave her a half-smile that wasn’t quite a smile.
“Are you worried about me?
What are you afraid of—afraid something will happen to your man?”
Alex turned her head away with a touch of tsundere pride.
“I’m not!
Don’t overthink it.
I’m just worried my partner will get himself killed—my partner, that’s all.
You still haven’t done what you promised me.”
Eddie burst out laughing.
“Ha!
I’ll be fine—don’t worry.
Besides, fortune is found in risk.
Spencer’s an old fox, sure, but people only think he’s impossible to deal with because they’ve never hit him where it hurts—never touched his soft spot.”
Alex raised a brow.
Her elegant fingers, painted with glossy black nail polish, slid across the tablet screen.
“You seem to understand Spencer extremely well.
So what kind of person are you, really?
I’m honestly very curious.”
“I’m just someone who wants to live,” Eddie said with a grin.
“And if possible… maybe I can marry a beautiful wife, have a few kids, something like that.
That would be perfect.”
Alex scrunched her delicate nose and put on an unexpectedly cute expression.
“Marry a wife?
You don’t look like that kind of person!”
“If I could have a few more than one, that’d be even better—also a wonderful thing.” Eddie laughed again, then his gaze sharpened.
“But right now, the most important thing is using Spencer’s resources to build myself up.
Before you’re dispatched to Tottoka Island, I’ll cure you.
I will.”
They’d been together for several years now, and Alex ultimately chose to believe him.
“What do you need me to do?”
“Tell Spencer I want to see him,” Eddie said evenly.
“And tell him it’s about Marcus.
Marcus has come back to life.”
“What?!” Alex’s eyes widened, shock written all over her face.
“Impossible.
Didn’t he die ten years ago?
Are you sure you’re not joking?” Someone dead for a decade suddenly “reviving”—that was hard to explain even with science!
“What’s impossible about it?” Eddie’s expression turned serious.
“Did you forget the most common effect of the T-serum?
Turning the dead into the living.”
“How do you know Marcus revived?” Alex pressed, her expression filled with confusion.
As a high-IQ ‘mature lady’ type, she still couldn’t figure out where the break in logic was.
“Have you seen him?”
“No,” Eddie said.
“But it’s predictable.
I found certain materials in his experimental documents—enough to infer it.
And besides, I’ve heard reports that someone saw a man resembling a young Marcus wandering around the Arklay Mountains.” His words were deliberately ambiguous—true and not-true at the same time.
The situation was already developing beyond Alex’s expectations.
She frowned, her voice turning more cautious.
“If that’s the case, there could be serious consequences.
You know Umbrella—if a lot of its experiments are exposed to the public, we could be wanted.”
For the sake of immortality, they had committed countless inhuman human experiments.
If the evidence really went public, it wouldn’t be mere bankruptcy—they’d face legal accountability.
No one would negotiate with a corporation known for moral filth and atrocity.
“I know,” Eddie said, unwavering.
“It’s precisely because I know that I’m going to Spencer.”
“And you’re not afraid that after you say all that, Spencer will kill you—or lock you up?” Alex warned.
“Don’t forget what happened to the mansion architect’s family!”
“That’s why I need your help,” Eddie said with a smile.
“You can definitely help me.”
“Me?” Alex pointed at herself with a pale finger, her expression puzzled.
“How am I supposed to help you?”
“Simple.” Eddie’s eyes were steady.
“Tell Spencer that I have outstanding talent for developing the T-serum.
If I work with you on serum development, we can absolutely create the immortality serum Spencer wants.
Doesn’t he want to become the god of this world?
He won’t be able to refuse that offer.”
He nodded—he’d already seen straight through Spencer’s nature.
“Is that so?” Alex’s gaze flickered a few times, her eyes shining with intense curiosity.
“You really do understand him far too well.”
It’s not really mandatory—I’ll eventually upload all the chapters here—but it helps a lot in supporting me and allows me to dedicate more time to it.
