In a wealthy mansion in Raccoon City, an old man who looked like he was on his last legs—yet still wore a suit and seemed strangely vigorous—sat in a wheelchair.

A tube appeared to be connected to his forehead, likely used to deliver nutrient fluids.

This man was none other than Oswell E.Full novel: Coming Clean Starts with Resident Evil — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Spencer, one of Umbrella’s founders!

“You’re saying Marcus is still alive?

If that’s the case, why not go join Marcus instead—why come to me and snitch?” Spencer asked, his tone playful, almost amused.

Eddie wasn’t surprised.

His expression remained heavy and serious.

“I suspect it’s a leech infected by the T-serum—somehow inheriting Marcus’s memories and appearance.

In other words, this ‘Marcus’ that resembles Marcus… is not the real Marcus!”

“You’re saying this Marcus isn’t Marcus—then which Marcus is this Marcus?” Even Spencer looked a bit tangled up by the logic.

“In any case, the thing that looks like Marcus isn’t Marcus, that’s the point!” Eddie said with righteous indignation.

“I don’t know what it is that’s impersonating my Uncle Marcus, but this is absolutely unforgivable!

Even the reputation of the dead has to be insulted?

That’s going too far!

Uncle Spencer, you’ll help me eradicate that damned bastard, right?

Uncle Marcus said you were his close friend when he was alive—you’ll definitely help, right?” Eddie spoke with absolute sincerity, laying on the emotional pressure.

Spencer’s expression turned intriguingly thoughtful.

He wasn’t sure whether Eddie truly didn’t know Marcus’s death had something to do with him.

According to Alex’s report, this arrogant, smug rich brat clearly lacked emotional intelligence, but in terms of intellect, he was genuinely useful for serum research.

“Of course.

I will help you.

What kind of help do you want?”

“I want the company’s special operations unit to wipe out that damned thing.

Outrageous—how dare it set its sights on my dead uncle!

It really doesn’t know how it’s going to die.” Eddie paused, then shamelessly added, “Oh, and Uncle Spencer, I also need five million as pocket money!”

“What do you need that money for?” To Spencer, five million wasn’t even enough to get stuck between his teeth!

“Recently I’ve taken a liking to a tactical rescue team member in Raccoon City.

I’m planning to develop things properly with her.

Doesn’t that take money?” Eddie didn’t bother hiding anything.

Nine parts truth, one part lie—that was the most sophisticated kind of deception.

Spencer had received that intelligence.

Romance?

What a thought only low-grade creatures would entertain!

“Fine.

Since you’re in that kind of mood, I’ll grant you a privilege,” Spencer said abruptly, offering a massive benefit.

“You may assemble a six-person team.

You can recruit from anywhere, or recruit internally.

All expenses are on you!”

Eddie’s eyes flickered.

“I probably can’t manage that alone.

And I don’t have money either.

No thanks!” He waved his hands dismissively.

This old bastard—offering favors for no reason.

If it isn’t lust, it’s theft!

Spencer nodded with satisfaction.

A reckless blockhead with no social experience was the easiest type to handle.

“You don’t need to worry.

I’ll give you thirty million as starting capital.

I hear you’ve studied serology quite a bit?

Good.

You can go to the underground research facility in Raccoon City and assist William in serum development.”

Eddie pointed at his own nose.

“You want me to assist someone else?

Don’t be ridiculous.

I only know how to treat a cold—what would I know about serum research?”

“Is that so?” Spencer chuckled.

“From what I understand, you’re not that useless.

You’re angry—angry that your uncle hasn’t helped you avenge Marcus?”

“Not really,” Eddie said bluntly.

“I’m just annoyed.

Weren’t you two good friends?

Why has there been no movement for so long?”

Spencer nearly laughed himself silly.

Facing an opponent like this was completely stress-free.

“Eddie… you don’t understand.

The adult world is complicated.

Marcus’s death involves many people.

Even I can’t wipe them out in one fell swoop.

I still have to rely on you.”

Eddie nodded after hearing that.

“Alright then.

If Uncle says so, I’ll agree.”

“Very good.

Sergei—go arrange things for my little nephew,” Spencer ordered the burly man behind him.

“I understand, Boss!” The man had a scar across his right eye.

He wore an old-style officer’s uniform, his hair white, his eyes resolute, and his build was like an ox.

He was Umbrella’s highest-ranking security forces commander—Spencer’s absolutely loyal Sergei Vladimir.

You could tell he was Russian just from the name.

One day later, at Eddie’s villa, a woman with long amber hair arrived.

She had refined features and a firm, unflinching gaze.

She was here to apply for a job—after receiving an invitation from Umbrella’s mobile forces.

Eddie had just come out of Alex’s room.

Dealing with that ‘mature lady’ took more than just empty promises—sometimes you needed real action too.

“Young master, someone has come to apply for the Delta Team,” Butler Stuart said respectfully.

He was showing Eddie courtesy by extension—otherwise he would only obey Miss Alex.

Now, Eddie Cai was Alex’s man, which made him the butler’s future master-in-law, and thus worthy of respect.

“Alright, I know.

Let her in.” Eddie nodded, feeling even more eager to expand his strength.

Especially after meeting Sergei yesterday—Umbrella’s perfect T-serum-compatible man—the pressure had been immense.

Soon, in the main hall, he saw a woman with a mature, worldly charm.

Her expression was icy, and she radiated killing intent at all times—a crisp, capable aura.

“Hello.

I’m the leader of Delta Team, Eddie Cai.

You can call me Eddie,” Eddie said, his face serious.

“Let me take a look at your file first.

You can also introduce yourself briefly.

But I’ll tell you in advance: this team will face all kinds of sudden terrorist incidents.

We may deal with things that make no sense—what you could call monsters.”

“I understand.” The woman’s tone was flat.

“My name is Karena LesProux.

I previously served in French special forces.

I have extensive special operations experience.

The rest is in the file.

I can only tell you this: if you choose me, you won’t regret it.”

Eddie flipped through the documents, nodding as he read.

“Codename: Lupo.

Thirty-eight years old today.

You don’t look it—your upkeep is excellent.”

“Thanks.” Karena frowned slightly, clearly not happy that someone had said her age out loud.

“Don’t misunderstand,” Eddie said.

“That was just a routine compliment.

But in your record… there’s a criminal case.

You personally killed your husband?” Eddie’s eyes flickered.

This was a ferocious woman.

“Because he frequently used domestic violence,” Karena explained, her voice controlled.

“I endured it.

But that time, he threatened my daughter.

I had no choice but to kill him.”

It’s not really mandatory—I’ll eventually upload all the chapters here—but it helps a lot in supporting me and allows me to dedicate more time to it.
